Thread: GM, Illegal Goods on Vendors?

I know this has been mentioned before, and I would really like to not ever see any sliced goods or spices on any vendors. This would make these items feel more illegal and would have to be sold in a more criminal fashion.
What I can't find is mention of this idea from GreenMarine. Has he said anything on it as of yet? He like? He no like?
You like? You no like?

hmmmm you mean bazzar or vendors? Some areas/planets are pretty dodgy and could very well have illegal goods vendors on them (can you say tatooine?) but others such as Naboo should have restrictions.

I mean no vendors, no stores, no bazaars. The only way to "move" illegal merchandise should be by word of mouth and by hand. If there's one thing a government can keep track of, its what is publicly sold in a retail store. That's why that Pawn Shop guy had to take you out back to show you his "special" weapons.

It won't be hard to get around this, and it would also make the prices a little higher on these items. But when's the last time you bought cocaine at 7-11? That's right, you didn't. You had to go behind 7-11.

First Cocaine is bad mmkay

Second, some of us (not me) do bulk orders for AS and WS and make their money this way (I kill stuff and slice while waiting for shutles). Most AS and WS are PvPers alts mostly not on so they can't sell anything without vendors. What you propose would require a whole new kind of people (not necesarily smugglers) dedicating a LOT of time finding a sfae spot and selling their stuff.

Requires thinking though. If some people can find interest in selling sliced items in dark alleys and enjoy it I say go ahead. I'm not selling anything anyway except for spice and most of my production goes to my guildies so the vendor is for odd visitors lost in my wife's cantina.

Yes, that's my point. The people that take on Smuggler to be slicemonkeys for AS and WS would actually have to smuggle, instead. And hopefully nothing in this profession will be done to make it easier for people's alts and bots.
But like I said, its easy to get around the vendors, but you would have to think.

This seems to fall in line with the 'Black Market' Ideas..

It has been a suggestion that (assuming you can't sell contraband normally) smuggler be able to slice the bazaarto allow him to sell there stuff.

Also that they would have a skill to slice/convince thier own vendors to sell contraband as well, in that case it would not be a 7-11 it would be someones 'pusher' doing all the selling.

I realize that would be a waste to any smuggler that does not invest extra points to being a merchant. Which is why I am a supporter of the Idea that smugglers should have business IV as a pre-req in lieu of pistols or unarmed. Then they would always have at least one lackey to do thier bidding.

If we do get the Casino option as smugglers...you bet your @ss I'm going to have an Illigel vendor in the "back"...

Adds more to the criminal and "buisness" side of my character...

Said it before, I'll say it again. I support removing all illegal items (spice and sliced equipment) from the general bazaar. Also, remove all illegal items (spice and sliced equipment) from regular vendors.

However, I also loke the idea of allowing special vendors to be placed in Player City Cantinas that can sell spice (and only spice). This is a representation of the pusher flunky that comes up to you in the bar and says, "Hey, you wanna buy some deathsticks?" Smugglers bring the product to the people who sell it, they do not sell it themselves. This would bring a little more utility to the now empty Player Cantinas.

This also means that sliced equipment would not be on sale on the bazaar or any vendors. That's ok because that equipment is custom modified, and slicing should be a personal thing, not a bulk enterprise.

you don't want to sell me deathsticks

smugglers should have special vendors placing ability in the underworld tree (looks a bit empty)

I, myself, would not be terribly opposed to this because I would like to see the amount of sliced armors and weapons reduced in-game and this would probably help out in that area. But this will never happen. I do roleplay and you know how roleplayers are....we complain that the devs don't consider us enough and the game isn't conducive to good roleplay. But we don't need to forget the other side of the spectrum...the powergamer. This would turn off unbelievable amounts of people who just want to buy their armor from a vendor and go kill uber monsters for uber loot. This isn't just a small annoyance (like the provisions I have posted on the "smuggler morals" thread); this could prohibit players from actually getting the exact piece of armor they want, i.e. they can never meet the guy who has the perfect weapon because of scheduling conflicts.

I am for taking all sliced weapons of the bazaar and I wouldn't be too upset if there were some serious restrictions placed in Imperial cities. But if you take all sliced items off all vendors, there will be a mass exodus by powergamers and for that reason, I don't except Sony to do it. I don't blame Sony for it either. It is a business.

Trust me, powergamers by their very nature will buy sliced goods no matter how hard they are to get. They won't quit the game, they will just roll with it. Get some good smuggler contacts, like most of them already have, and continue being ubah getting ubah loot.
Some of the kiddies may complain that it takes them a bit more time to get that new gear sliced, but they will fall in line also. This won't be a deal breaker for anyone.

Ugh. I can just see it now. Since peoplewon't be able toget their sliced weapons and armor fix by going to vendors, they'll be bombarding every Smuggler they see using the Search feature with tells asking for slicing. Everyone uses sliced gear. What do you think is going to happen once they have to actually come to a Smuggler to get it?

I do bulk slicing, and I sell sliced armor on a few vendors in different locations. I pick the time I want to slice items. I get it done in a reasonable amount of time, and then I am off to go have fun doing something else. If you take away the ability to sell sliced items on vendors, I can basically count on spending my entire play time responding to tells and slicing for people. We'll become the new Master Doctors, with our lines of impatient people, standing outside of starports. Or we'll hide our Smuggler tags (which sucks to have to do) just so we can avoid all of that.

I just think it would cause more trouble than it's worth.
