I like TomoRainer's description of an Imperial Smuggler, and I fit it pretty well. I consider myself an "inside man", and I chose a side to reap the benefits. Being from Theed, Naboo, the Imperials are in power (well, that can change now
) so that was a logical choice. The Rebels are always being hassled, chased and shook down, so working from the inside suits me. There are also many like-minded Imperials I know that are open to bending the rules a bit, and I can supply them with what they need.
In space, I started out as an Imperial pilot, but eventually dropped it and picked up a Dunelizard and went solo. I fly for whoever will pay the most or fits my interest at the time. My options are much more open in space compared to the ground game.

I'm an Imp Smuggler. Lets face it, the Rebels are a bunch of do gooders. If they come in to power, I'll be reduced to just a normal spacer. The Empire has strick laws on contraband and goods. Those pesky Rebels may still limit Spices, but I'm willing to bet if they ever come into power the traderoutes will open up. Do not forget that Palpatine has strong ties with the Trade Federation and the Banking Clans, as long as they are in control of the government, I'm going to make a large profit. I'm not saying the Empire is right, but the longer they stay in power, the more profitable a Smuggler I will be.
On a gameplay aspect, it would be fun to run from Stormtroopers, plus I'm a Mon Cal., so to be able to sell faction items along with points sure would be nice. However, I'm a casual gamer and almost to Imp Colnel and do not look forward to grinding up the Rebel ranks, but will probably do it eventually.

My first response was a bit vague. Here's how I veiw an Imperial Smuggler
Extract from FutureMovies.co.uk; Buffalo Soldiers review.
The plot follows charming rogue Elwood (an electric Joaquin Phoenix), who spends his day as a clerk to the inept but caring Commander Berman (the ever-reliable Ed Harris). But when he’s not pushing pencils, Elwood also has a nice line in black market deals, from heroin to his fellow officers, to stolen guns to the local German mafia.
Now my Bio (You'll notice I'm not an opthan, decended from rolyalty, Born on Aldeeran, or had some of my loves one's killed. In fact I am the reason for so many lost love one's in this war
)
He looks up at you from the shadows and you involuntarily shiver. His cold eyes blaze with insanity and you feel relieved as his gaze leaves you, dismissing you as insignificant.
Tales of this man's dark pass have reached even you. He has had dealings with ruthless Crime Lords running shipments of illegal arms and spices. For his distinguished service for the Imperial Navy, the Emperor himself bestowed the special rank of colonel which Kenney uses to acquire, for the right price, Imperial goods and prestige for fellow officers and enlisted men. His skills as a fighter are legendary, he has killed with pistols, rifles, swords and his bare hands. He has no fear and if the bolder tales are to be believed he has faced and killed Jedi.
You become aware with dread that his attention on leaving you has been drawn to a beggar girl. You dread the girl's fate at the same time as he passes. You are as surprised as she when you see the credits now in her grubby hands.

I'm an Imperial Smuggler and I figured the safest place to hide from the authorities is by being one. That way, if I see an investigation getting a little too close to my operations, I can shut it down or send it off in another direction. Helpful to blame everything on the Hutts as well.

I'm one as well. I'll work for whomever pays best, and the Empire has a lot of weight and money to throw around. That whole corrupt tyranny things just means they have tough rules that they'll need to break themselves. And, if I'm "on their side" they're less likely to scrutinize me if I'm working for someone else.

I've yet to see one, and I'm pretty sure I know why, but I just wanted to see if there were any.
