Thread: Is there even a such thing as a Imperial Smuggler?

I'm one. Me and Dreven have had some fun conversations with other smugglers on our server about how we visualize that working.

I don't do much RPing, but originally I pictured my character as concerned only by profit and completely apathetic about the political side. However, he knew the current system, and figured peace would be more profitable for his line of business than some big civil war messing everything up, so it was best to throw his lot with the status quo and hope things would get back to normal. Besides, how better to fly under the radar than as an inside man. I PVPed a lot in the first few months, so that was something of a contradiction, but I never really thought it through or was much concerned by it. I just liked fighting.

Now I do a lot of space PVP and think about it in terms of believing in the cause, but not all the regulations that go along with it--especially if they're restricting the free flow of goods and information. Or, to be a little less philosophical, if they get in the way of turning a buck. My guy doesn't see any contradiction in fighting for the Empire one moment and running guns the next; he believes the Empire's mostly just, and worth fighting for, but that no government gets everything right and its citizens are under no obligation to follow unjust laws. He also thinks the Rebellion wouldn't be any better in the end--they'd end up just as corrupt, and it's not like they wouldn't illegalize goods either, so the best thing to do is jump in the cockpit and fight to get things back to peace as soon as possible. Especially when it's threatening Tatooine and the Outer Rim, his homeland, and a sort of frontier/outlaw place he will fight violently to defend from any aggression. The Empire, whatever, but threaten Tatooine and it's time to come out blasting.

Milo Minderbinder from Catch-22 is a pretty funny example of a guy convinced his side is right but holding no compunction against breaking its laws. He's one inspiration for me.

cant help but think of the ferangi rules of accusition. not sure what actual rules they are but there are some

# war is good for business

#piece is good for business

Spell check ferengi. aquisition peace.

I think am not sure that those are the 34th and 35th rules. You know I have actually taken those rules to heart true a bit cynical but I will share some of my favorites.

A contract is a contract is a contract, but only between ferengi.

Occasionally declare peace it confuses the hell out of your enemies.

Actually an imperial smuggler is a valid proposition. Whenever a power wants to influence events its far safer to do it through back channels. The components for both deathstars were to a part smuggled. There is no way the empire could have kept them hidden for aslong as they were without the resources being funneled in secretely. Clandestine rendevous in deep space altered inventory lists, and go betweens. In other words the empire uses smugglers the same way the rebels do to secretely transport goods in a nonobvious way.

I'm an imp smuggler as well. I think it goes well with the empire considering the empire owes its veryexistance to greed, corruption and power hungry men wanting as big a peice of the galactic pie as they can get.

Smuggler/Imp Colonel.

We make money by breaking laws. Only the Empire supports those laws. We support the EMpire so we can keep making money. Seems pretty simple to me.

Yet another Impsigning in from the fabeled 'Starsider', and let me tell you, I have more damn good competition 'round here than I'd like...

Between you and me, friend, the "Colonel" thing's just a honorary bit... see, clearences are more easilyunderstood in terms of rank to some of these Snowflakes... Me? Well, I'm more of a "Recruitment and Supply Enabeler" ...heh, I like the sound of that, I should note it in my datapad. Everyone has needs friend. You need to get back into the good graces of the beloved Empire so's its troops stop banging down your door... or maybe you want to throw some of your clout around to get your kid inta officer training. Sithspit, I dont care from motives, son. It's my civic duty to... enable... both your need for a beter raiting on the scan docs, and the Empire's need for as many "dedicated" beings as it can muster. Just so happens I know a recruiter or two and more than a couple of Officers who would be all to happy to assist you in adjusting your affiliations... as long as you help them "adjust" their quality of living, so to speak. Ever try to live on an Imperial sitpend? Heh. Didnt think so. You help them, they help you, see? Oh, and I just extract a little "finder's" fee from the proceedings... what? It's legit, I swear! *grin* Taxable and everything... so if you feel bad about draging me out in the middle of the night to this backwater listening post over a matter of a death warant for terrorist activities, I could always ease your mind for a little extra for my troubles...

I am. They have a kick-ass insurance plan...

Plus, Imp's have more faction perks which we get cheaper. If you want me to give a RP explaination, I figure the Empire is ladent with corruption which is right up our alley(i.e. I'm buying my way to colonel )
