Thread: Just waxing intellectual on the future of SWG...what's YOUR opinion?
- One side are the people that truly desire to be a Jedi because they feel that's the profession they belong to;
- The other side are PvPers that see Jedi as just the next step in the evolution of their character's toon.
So my question is this: What happens when everyone becomes a Jedi? What happens when everyone that loves their profession so much finally gives up when they realize that they're not getting content, but it's being taken away from them? What happens when everyone that wants to participate in the GCW can't unless they have a Jedi? When will we see a 'regular'profession become totally extinct (as so many seem to be currently?)
If everyone finally becomes a Jedi, and then makes their alt the profession that's truly in their heart...aren't we back at square one? Wouldn't it have been better to have never had Jedi? Whatare the development team and LucasArts thinking by making changes to Jedi that allow them to level up easier? Where do they see the future of SWG, if this is their plan?
If the CU was a fix for the combat system because management didn't believe that SWG could have survived in that model....I'm terrified to see where they see it going now.
So SOE, LucasArts...I'm asking you:
Where do you plan on taking this game as a whole with the current production cycle of makingcertain professions"more fun" and "easier to play," while taking away professions like Entertainers'usefulness (because it isn't "fun" to heal BF, or it's not "exciting" togo into a cantina and sit down/talk to someone that's not AFK)? Where do you draw the line on making the game "fun" for certain professions, but removing other professions' content and happiness?
Sorry if I seem like I'm ranting, I've just been really thinking about this the last week or so, and the advent of Patch 20 kind of pushed me over the edge.

I wouldn't buy that game if it had Jedi in it.
A catchier title could be.
"Publish 20: Revenge of Some idiotic guy who's never played the game and has no idea how the game should be but still has ideas about it."
Stop marketing this game to people weaned on The Phantom goddam Menace, your core market is TRUE fans of Starwars. People familiar with the lore, NOT people looking to be Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. Not people with a Jar Jar lunchbox.

This is terrible

Same here, and for me to say that shows what a poor state the game is in currently.
I wanted to be the guy who had a death penalty intwelve systems. I wanted to own the rival cantina in Mos Eisley, the guy who's bar was so poor he welcomed droids in and couldn't afford to have a No Blasters! policy.
Instead, I have a game shell I love but everything about itthat should have been vital iscriminally underdeveloped, and everything that should have been on the frignes is massively over stated. The Star Wars I worship doesn't have Jedi everywhere. It doesn't have herds ofKrayt Dragons gently mooching around waiting to be farmed for pearls. It doesn't have rancors wondering around ready for slaughter.
I had a similar thought Veela. I mean, they made jedi so easy to attain, and now Jedi Knight easy to attain....what is the next step. When a new player can grind to Jedi in 6 days, then to Knight in 10...where does that leave everyone else? At some point, you are right, everyone will have a jedi, but why? Only because that is the path laid out to us by LA.
I am all for allowing people to play a jedi if that is what they truly want to play, it is difficult to shut out a player base simply because they want them to be rare. I only play a couple of hours a week, if I wanted to play a jedi up until they ditched the hologrind I was pretty much SOL. Now, I can easily follow the path and become a jedi without any difficulty. I like that idea but not the implementation or the ramification.
The main problem is that they are too far down the road now. They can't turn back now, they would lose too much. They never should have done what they did, but now that it is done it will take a drastic change to make things right again. We all know how well those go over don't we?
One of the draws of this game when first announced and through beta was how they were handling jedi. They had always said even a casual player could discover the path if they were lucky. That gave me hope within a rarity system. Now it is an abundance system, and I don't have the heart to do it...I haven't since somewhere around Dec/Jan 2003/2004.
My solution (tongue firmly in cheek):
Star Wars Galaxies: Episode IV: The Jedi Purge
All the jedi get moved to their own server, either one big one, or a mirror of existing ones with an option to go to another during initial release. Then when a regular server player goes through the path to becoming a jedi, instead of unlocking a second slot on the same server, they unlock a slot on the jedi server for a chance to play there beginning as a FS.
Then institute a new, secret, unknown, intuitive way to unlock a jedi character on regular servers where it is so rare that there would only naturally be a dozen or so at a given time (maybe with perma-death).
Seriously though, I would like to know where SOE/LA think the endgame for this MMORPG lies? In Jedi? In the GCW? Dopes a disinterest in either of those automatically preclude the game isn't for you?
i thought i was dissappointed in the direction the game was going with publish 19...
but now publish 20? ugh...
i think i may seriously quit... it won't be easy.
if i do leave, can someone call me and let me know if they ever make Smuggling missions? only call me if they're actually fun and interesting. don't bother calling if they went to "Plan B".

It's funny. The general idea behind the moves seems to be to make the game more attractive to Luke/Vader wannabes. Well, okay whatever, I disagree with that, but I can't fight the marketing department. But everything they're doing isn't just making Jedi easier to obtain, and play, it's making Jedi the ONLY choice to be. EVERYONE eventually must turn to Jedi. Everything else is just a stepping stone. Just choose your method of XP grinding and go at it for like 6 months and then that's when the real game starts...
