Okay, in all defense, no, no. That's not true. Well, someone who has unlocked jedi can grind through jedi in maybe a week or so, to a full template, they still have to go through the Knight trials to become a knight.

Which means Publish 21 will be the changing of the Knight Trials to the Knight Trial... which will be a short journey from 0,0,0 naboo to 0,0,5 naboo.

Aside from having to wait for village phases, this is entirely possible now, given a regular grinding group, double xp sperts, low danger while working.. maybe a few more then 10 days, just cause the old man can be stubborn and slow, but the grinding part isn't all that difficult to overcome. (if you don't have a job)

MIS, you have a valid statement... you have always been the voice of reason on these forums and it is appreciated.

Here is a statement to all the jedi and bounty hunters, and every other player out there.

I have NO INTENTION of becomming a Jedi. Perhaps one day but not now and not in the near future. I have seen good jedi and bad jedi, whinning jedi and respectful jedi, but the fact still remains... as I am concerned, there is only ONE hybrid career in this game. Smuggler.

I bought this game to be a rogue, a swashbuckler, to follow in the footsteps of my favorite Star Wars character: Han Solo. I have seen the light and I can say with confidence that the coolest and generally most down to earth players are the Smugglers.

I've had several talks with MBHs and a Jedi Knights in the past... both have said "THEMSELVES" that the Smugglers deserve a Revamp and the same goes with the Squad Leaders. So there are less Squad Leaders and Smugglers then Jedi, does this mean that we don't deserve any attention? There are Jedi out there who would state that we are complaining when we have just got a massive SLICING change. To them, I say:

Most of us don't like the change
It is not what we were promised
The Change needs massive work
Don't tell us that this is enough, when the contigency of jedi fixes vastly outnumber the fixes made to Smugglers.

Sorry, I had to get this off my chest...

Good work though Veela, you are right in what you have said.

I have had similar thoughts Veela on the future of SWG. I was a bit skeptic of the CU but gave it a shot, and in the beginning, I really liked for the most part the changes that were made. Now, I'm not so sure.

What happened to the game I started with? What hapened to letting the "players" decide the outcome of the GCW. I remember in the early days running missions for the Rebellion so we would gain the advantage in the next part of the storyline. That was a blast.

Now?

The game revovles around loot and damage dealing....and what is the best way to get both? Jedi. Now before any Jedi start whining, yes there are other combat professions that can deal just as much if not more damage. But none can compare to Jedi and the abilities of stealth, healing, speed and damage dealing.

I am starting to feel that we are on the Titanic.....it sinking, the crew (devs) know this right now but the passengers(us) are being kept oblivious while being fed more appetizers. These recent publishes have felt very rushed and a weak attempt at appeasing the main stream audience. After I saw the partial noted to Pub 20, I actually thought "What is the point of being anything BUT a Jedi". Thankfully, I snapped out of that quickly, but I know I am not the only one out there thinking that.

I think they truly don't know how to curb the massive (and yes I mean MASSIVE) influx of Jedi in the game short of a /reset or bringing back Perma-death ...and those would be instant killers of this MMORPG. So what is left? Simple...let everyone be Jedi. Really why stop/cap it now? There would be no point.

The best thing for the Devs to do is to stop acting like we are between Chapters 4 and 5. Its over, no one believes this anymore. This is the Devs version of the SW universe...not George Lucas's. Let us decide what come next and stop pretending to be following any storyline known to the SW universe. If we want Luke to die...fine lets do missions to kill or save him and which ever side does the most decides the next chapter in OUR SWG storyline

Unfortunately, I don't see a bright and rosey future for this game. No GCW at all right now, Jedi everywhere, advetures and quest that are ridiculously simple or ludicrously hard.....and too few quests at that. Non-combat professions falling by the wayside (/salute to all you remaining Entertainers out there) and the Non-Jedi combat professions look to be on the scope next.

I want to believe this game that I have played for almost 2 years now will rise from the ashes.........but my faith is fading faster each day.

Wow, strong remarks. I don't necessarily agree with you on saying this is "OUR" SW universe. It's more like SOEs Universe and we are just the primary funders to keep the world going 'round.

I was saying that it is SOE's universe but they should make it "Our's" ....not try and say they are following the Lucas timeline.....that fell by the wayside many moons ago. I would like to see it made "Our's" and let us decide the outcome....not SOE.

I have to agree with BaronJuJu... where do I see the game going?

1. Easier and easier to 'make Jedi'...

2. More and more content requiring either that you ARE a jedi or you have a jedi with you

Bottom feeders like us who want to do 'non-jedi' things will be forced to make up our own content. It's sad when I think about how happy I was playing the jubilee wheel at the Coronet Hotel with some buddies... really, how fun of a 'game' is that? Text popping up telling us what's going on, not even an animation on the jubilee wheel... it's very weak. But it's the kind of thing that would be FUN to be doing... and is not getting any play.

I see more instance-based missions with high-end bosses that require jedi in order to take out.

I see more required components for item crafting/slicing that must be looted from said high-end bosses.

I see missions to take out 'named' npcs as a way to 'enhance the GCW'... you know, taking out Dodanna... or Veers, etc. Like has been said, they might as well do away with the pretense that this is following the original SW storyline, anyway.

A great jedi purge would be awesome. I don't care if there are a lot of jedi, I care that they're all OVER THE PLACE. Drive them underground, WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE. Ah, but this is the wrong thread for that kind of discussion... this is what we expect to see, not what we want to see.

Finally, I expect our 'smuggler missions' to be crap. Talk to a contact, get a mission to take something somewhere... we do it, get jumped by some npcs, maybe... probably only on land because god knows we can't assume that a smuggler has JtL and sure as hell can't write code complex enough to figure that out when the mission is being given... and then we'll get money payout and some 'loot'... usually broken datapads or worn-out gear assemblies that we can sell to jawas... but every once in a while we MIGHT actually get a slicing component. Or some other required carrot to dangle in front of us.

I hope not, but... hey, you asked my opinion. /shrug

Although the hype surrounding Episode 3 (tied-in to RotW) and the CU has made a hiccup in players lately, I'm convinced that in another few months, SWG will return to its status as a low-population niche game. The fanboys will never leave regardless of what happens, but the profits won't be enough to justify the effort needed to "fix" this mess. Once everyone gets tired of Kashyyyk and returns to the grind, they'll realize how hollow it is, and go play the Next Big Thing.

I got pretty hopeful for changewhen Blizzard blew EQ2 out of the water and SOE realized that they'd need to make SWG into a moneymaker. But they're still not willing to commit to a business plan that makes a winner: injections of refreshing content (doesn't happen except in paid yearly expansions), solid development practices (ie code shouldbe tested, efficient and reliable), excellent customer-service and an ongoing effort of game balance (permanently went out the window when Jedi alpha-classes appeared, and otherwise, ranged vs. melee is an obvious imbalance). Not to mention that after two-years, promises on the retail box still have yet to be implemented. When you're this far behind the curve, you don't catch up.

So where do they go from here? Well, it's tough to say. EQ had support for years, although it was a stronger product, was the only game in town for much of its lifecycle and therefore it had a much larger fanbase. Niche games have done well too, even with speckled development histories, such as Anarchy Online.Although for the genre, it too was the only player in town and it had the added advantage of being highly innovative, which kept players interested (unlike SWG, which initially swiped most of its systems from AO and has since been diluting them). AO also got over its development problems, and was strongly supported by the producer. I don't really know. If I were to bet, I'd say that when subscriptions trail off again, SOE will tread water and scale back the publishes and just try to break even, in hopes of moving the customer-base over to SWG2 in another couple of years.

But if LucasArts has any brains left at all, they'll keep SWG2's development in-house, or license it to a different dev/publisher. NCSoft has published some really exciting and successful stuff in the past year, they'd be an obvious choice if I were King of the MMOs.

low-population? never has been. It's always been one of the larger population games.

WoW has transcended that market entirely. It's in it's own category. Like, Extra-Large.

But it's not low. Never has been, and probably won't be unless they keep screwing it up.
