I think we might want to try a change in tactics. Yes, I realize that this will probably be impossible to enforce, but I think I'm echoing the sentiments of most smugglers on this forum when I say that I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I propose a wholesale smuggler boycott on all of the special abilities we have left; no slicing or faction-selling (good grief, is that ALL now?!) I sent a message this weekend to my Weaponsmith partner after this nerf went through that I wasn't going to be doing any slicing for her right now. She responded by telling me that she completely understood, and then blasted a message out to her clients explaining that she would not be selling sliced weapons, due to what happened this weekend. Almost every response was angry, but understanding.

We need to get the rest of the community on OUR side. When we get a /tell asking for us to slice some weaponry, explain that we're not slicing currently, due to what happened to our profession this weekend. This was the final straw. The Jedi are the Devs' babies, and meanwhile Smuggler has been the profession that has continuously been given the shaft. (So much so that we were covered on Slashdot!) One voice is never heard, but THOUSANDS of voices can be. It's obvious that the Devs are not going to listen to our ranting on these boards, but if EVERYONE is complaining about the latest Smuggler nerf, perhaps we can get something done.

We need some solidarity, and I think this can be the catalyst. Spread the word to your smuggler friends who don't read the forums, gather some containers for those novices out there, so they don't have to spend 6000 per container to get to slicing II, and educate that guy in the starport spamming slices about the power of unity. Very shortly, people will start getting really angry about not being able to slice that no-decay Krayt DE-10 they just spent 5 mil on, and they will help us get our voices heard.

Personally, I am going to spend some time today, standing around Coronet with my Master Smuggler tag up, with a nice AFK message stating that today is the day the Smugglers made a stand for their profession. No slicing, no spicing (well, crap. When was the last time I sold any Muon anyway?) and no faction purchases until our concerns are formally addressed by the Devs. And be sure to spread it around on your server's Smuggler Chat Channel! (I'd make a clicky to the chat channel thread, but I don't know how.)

As I mentioned in my first sentence, it would probably be impossible to enforce. However, this particular incident seems to have really pissed a lot of people off, so perhaps this could be the one thing that galvanizes the Smuggler community. The point is for the people on the board to try to get the ears of the other smugglers on their respective servers, Explain to them about this latest nerf, and get them to come on board.

The idea is not to get the Devs' attention directly, it's to cause the REST of the SWG community to get the Devs' attention FOR us.

The Smuggler community is definitely the tightest (well, in a loose-knit way,) group of people in this game. I think we can do this, but it's going to take everyone here to pull together and spread the word.

And I think the most important thing to take away from this whole thing, and what I have been explaining to others, is that this event is NOT the reason we're boycotting; it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Once again, the Smugglers get whacked by the nerf bat, with only a few glib words for explanation. It is the culmination of 18 months of abuse.

Um, no. You're not supporting the cause. The point is the total cessation of all services. Jacking up prices only makes us all look greedy, and the rich players will still pay. I'm taking it on the chin as much as anyone else; I make over 500k every couple of weeks from my partnership with a weaponsmith.

Look, this is going to be all or nothing. No halfway "I'm only slicing for my friends," no "I'll charge through the nose and just slice high-end stuff." We have to make the absence of our services be felt everywhere, or it won't work. Of any player group, I would hope that the Smugglers can pull it off.

But, if we're just going to go through the motions, it ain't gonna work.

We're not punishing the playerbase; we're trying to get them to add their voices to ours. Right now, it's the jedi who are heard. But if everyone else starts making a stink because the Smugglers are disgruntled, something might happen. We're a small minority, but we provide a service that everyone wants. We can't be heard alone; we need the rest of the playerbase shouting as well in order to make an impression on the Devs.

Well, you got the second part of that sentence right. It ain't gonna work. As long as Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths have their Smuggler alts, or guild buddies who slice for them, or just have Smugglers who don't read these forums at all (and there are a lot) it won't work. You'll still see the same amount of sliced weps and armor on vendors. The only people this will effect will be the Smugglers who give this idea a shot.

Time to get real, people.
