Thread: How DARE we raise our rates for slicing??? {gasp!}

This will put a nice juicy target on my back..... but very well.

I recentlybecame a Master Smuggler on Corbantis. So I can understand both sides ofthe 'price-per-slice'issue. Almost every profession has some sort of unique skill that others need or simply want. For us, slicing is key. Since the revamp of Chef, most people only tend to use spices when theywould REALLY be in over their heads otherwise. Contrary to popular belief, we do not make very much on spice at all. It is actually getting harder to find Smugglers willing to make spice as a result. Spice hasn't been a real money-maker in a while.

Do you HAVE to have your weapons or armor sliced? If you chose to (and it is simply that... YOUR choice), why do you elect to do so?

If you are a combat profession, you either want to kill faster/easier, or have armor that will protect your better or cost you less HAM. Maybe you just want bragging rights about having 'the best' of whatever....

If you are a Weaponsmith and/or Armorsmith, you're probably wanting to sell your wares pre-sliced on your vendors for higher prices. Those who do soarecertainly charging more than the 5-15k per item than they would have spent on an Smuggler's service (even AFTER a Smuggler rate increase). Assuming, of course, the Weaponsmith/Armorsmith isn't a Smuggler themselves... And if they are, do you actually think they're not adding the price of a slice into the merchandise as well??? Certainly more than the couple hundred creds it took to make a clamp and laser knife. Show me a single vendor who slices their own wares and only adds 100 credits per percent for that slice onto the overall price of the item. Come on....

If Smugglers as a whole wish to raise the prices of slicing, that's our call. Doctors dictate the prices of buffs (and I for one would pay far more than 10k regardless of how much it costs the Docs to make buff packs). I could care less if someone finds me foolish for being willing to pay upwards of 25k for a buff. I can recoup that amount in one or two missions (and I mow through FAR more than that during a three hour buff, obviously).

Our services allow the population as a whole to fight better/faster/longer than what they would otherwise be able to do. Is it really so difficult to swallow paying more than 100 creds per percent on a weapon you just spent 100k or more on (or even cheaper weapons/armor)? How many missions or adventures will that sliced item last (obviously armor doesn't last nearly as long as weapons)? Smugglers advertise their rates before a slice is made..... If you donot like that rate (whatever it may be), press on and find someone else to do it. No one is forcing you to get your items sliced. And if that's not good enough for you, spend some skill points to become a Smuggler yourselfso you can slice your own items....

Hmm, its funny that smugglers are supposed to be scum, yet they undercharge and are all CSRs ^^

I am a Master Smuggler. I am not a CSR.

I also do not undercharge for my services. As a matter of fact I have been accused of trying to rip people off by overcharging. At the time this happened, I was charging 3000 credits per item sliced. So I changed my pricing to the 100 credits per % increase and was also called a thief when I would get a slice over 30% and expect to be paid the agreed upon price which as the fates would have it was more the 3000 credits. Because of this I no longer slice for the general public. So there it is ... No Service Rendered ... No Payment Expected ... No Overcharging.

I also totally agree. I have been a smuggler since launch and will always be one as far as I can see, so I have done a slice or three in my time. Most of the time these days (since I don't need the money) I charge whatever I feel like at the time. If a customer approaches me the right way they are likely to get a decent rate. If they demand a slice from me (and the sheer number of people that do this to me is staggering) they get a big fat price tag. Just the other day a potential client claimed that he couldn't believe I charge for personal slicing and that I should only charge the smiths for bulk slicing. My only response was a brief stunned silence followed by an explaination of the quality of resources (I am old fashioned and still use the best resources I can lay may hands on in all my tools) and a query as to the fact why I should therefore pay for the privilage of slicing his equipent. He ended up on my ignore list afterwards. Just my two creds ..

Welcome to the club bro....I am on Tempest and I raised my prices to 200/%. Not so many people acted like the sky was falling but I have had some people get rude with me. Just tell them Good Luck/GL and have a nice day. Leaves them feeling stupid cause I dont beg them for their credits. I rather go slice the terms on Dant and get my 40k missions.

I'm not even Master Smuggler and i get rude comments for slicing. I had someone come up to me asking me to slice a container open, and i said i would for 1500 credits (i am really poor). He was amazed at me charging to open a locked container. I then told him to go find a novice smuggler who would do it for free. My point is is that the service that smugglers provide isn't appreciated as much as it should be.

If I am asked to slice a container , I tell them 1000 credits. dont get much opposition to 1000 credits. Everyone is looking for the golden crystal or Holocron in those stupid things. I even had a guy ask after I sliced it for free, he said " Wheres the Crystal?" lol.. I said I didnt even look in it! He got all pissy and started talking about how I was a thief and all. Then a guy I slice armor and weapons for came by and told him off. My rep is great, and I dont need a damn crystals. Its funny how people think those containers hold the uber loot in the game..lol

I am a Master WeaponSmith, Master Smuggler on Corbantis. I do not raise my prices for the slicing. All most all weapons on my vendorarepresliced, and the price is lower than most unsliced. I also don't charge for personal slices if they are in my guild.

Hear hear! I agree. I raised my prices to 200 credits per %. Makes me some decent money and suprisingly, not to many complain. I just make sure its alright before hand, but people are more then happy to oblige, especially when I get that magical 40% or more on their armor or that 30% or more on their weapon. Should we have a set price for slicing? I think 200 per % is pretty reasonable. Anyone else agree? Also, if people are willing to spend 250K for "UBER" OMFG!!!!11111 weapons, then they can shell out some credits when we get the good slices. Dah well, fark'um! Just can't wait to get the space expansion! That should make some things interesting for us smugglers!

Honestly, I find this whole debate about prices amusing. Just charge what you charge and let others do the same. It's not like there are so many Master Smugglers out there that one person charging half as much as you is going to kill your business.

Not only do we have to play CSR we also must deal with the real CSR more than other profs cause we tend to get reported more for total BS. I just love how CSR thinks they can police trade disputes and tend to back up the scammers out there. No wonder its so hard for people to find a MS cause alot of them dont even want to deal with the scammers and their gustapo they love to call on.

Kyzara, can I use your second paragraph as an in game macro?
