Thread: How DARE we raise our rates for slicing??? {gasp!}

Just tell them your pricing up front. Write a macro for it even. I always start with, "Do you know the drill?", if not then tell 'em how it works. I just act like I don't put up with shenanigans and people don't screw around.

Just don't be rude. If someone gives you lip, let 'em keep talking. I mean your dialogue appears in the spatial, so if they're a pain, keep their item and walk off, screencap the talk.

/smackselfinhead Doh!

Thanks for keeping up with the "Smuggler Code".

Who thinks Siggy's Smuggler Brotherhood Membership should be revoked?

That is just not good for my business, good thing you're on another server!

I have never charged for slicing. In fact, sometimes I even sit outside the starport advertising free slices to help promote my business. It is so dirt cheap to slice weapons, that I don't feel the need to reimburse myself. If I tip that cantina dancer 10k instead of 30k, then I can slice roughly a hundred weapons.

Everyone wants to make more money, slicing isn't something you guys can jack up the price on. There will always be people like me slicing for free.

Thank you Thank you....for not creating your character on Wanderhome.

About a month ago I tried to Start a sort of Smuggler's Union and one of the points of this was to try to convince them all that we could theoretically raise prices of slicing...considering we are the only class that can perminately enhance weapons/armor. Needless to say...at the beginning I heard from about 10 different smugglers...all but one thought this was a good idea. I have just bitten the bullit and stopped slicing for others all together. It is not worth the trouble to me...in fact I rarely ever wear my Master Smuggler tag either.

All-

To clarify, I am simply stating my opinion and venting to a degree.....

YMAC - Good on you brother... if you don't charge at all for slicing your weapons, you would be the first to do so that I have ever heard of. I have looked hi and low on Corbantis and I have yet to see any elite WS / AS NOT charging through the roof for a well-sliced weapon. I have no hate for you as you are in the miniscule minority.

SAUER - Hey, to each his own. If I'm sitting here on my soap box blabbering about how we can do as we feel is fair, I won't be a hipocrite (sp) and tell you not to. I hope your actionsdrums up more buisness for you.

GOLROK - By all means, use what you wish. I won't come looking for royalties... : )

Again, this post wasn't meant to argue the justification of raising rates for slicing. That's continously being hashed out on the forums and wasn't address in my original thread. This post was aimed at the people getting attitudes with us over doing what we feel is right for ourselves.

Just tired of all the whining..... Let the Doc's charge what they want....Let the Smuggler's charge what they want...and let anyone else charge what they want. If you feel the asking price for ANY service in this game is too high, then by all means go elsewhere....

Thank you, it was early this morning when i wrote that post. I would like to say that i do charge to slice. If i don't know the person, i charge. mostly 100 per %. The weapons that are on my vendor, i do not charge more for. They are sliced yes, but i do not make weapons for power players, i make weapons for the guy that plays the game for fun. I don't sell uber, krayt, crap on my vendor. They are all the best that i can make with good resources, and they are for the new guy mostly. That is why i keep it stocked with DLT20's and tuskens, that are sliced for over 200dam. Sorry that i did not explain better in my post this morning.

Agreed.
And what of those characters who say that it costs docs way more to make buff packs? Would those same people also say that Musicians and Dancers should be buffing people's minds for free?
Here goes again:
It's not the money, it's pride. We and our services are worth more then 3000 credits.

First thing I say is I charge 5K a slice.

One hears complaints of course. But its especially rewarding when I meet a guy in the middle of the desert, and he says to me "Can you slice plz" and I say: "Sure, I take 5K a slice". "No way man, you charge double, Im gonna go to Coronet!". Well sod off then and pay for your trip there instead.Waste your time and money.

Mostly people don't mind 5K.

And it should have been more.

I was doing 5k per slice myself.
Experimented with 10k, didn't have a problem at all.
I do 5 because it's fast and easy, 4 if they're in my faction. If I charge 100k and someone pays it, I think I'm doing an outstanding job of playing to-role. If someone said: Hey pal, I can't afford 10k, can you lower it? I'd almost _certainly_ lower it to whatever he could pay, even if it was 500 credits, and even if he was probably lying.

This morning my slicer was waiting in Coronet for business, but all I got was request for buffs (because people are inherently stupid I guess). I told them I could request a Doctor to buff, but it'd be pricy (it was early, I was still trying to RP).

Long story short, I logged my doctor on and charged 25k per buff. Some didn't bat an eye, some bitched like I took their pudding away. I told them a thing was worth what you can sell it for, but the complainers didn't seem to understand anyway. Hey, if you don't need the money, you can afford to piss off a few whiners, I guess. And at 25k per slice, I can afford to piss off 2.5 buyers of 10k buffs, no?
I still made a quarter million credits buffing in my spare time, so I guess captialism and greed win again.

Hey Batman, I made master 2 days ago, and my price have gone from 4K (atslicing 4)to 10K (thinking about 8K for imps).

I don't slice for the public often but I noticed you tend to,so if you ever run out of gear when I'm around just ask

I truly do not see a reaon to charge per %. Those of you who do it are not helping the rest of us. Doctors do not charge based upon a percent it is a flat fee. I charge 4K per slice if I am in the slicing mood and 6K if I am busy but they really want a slice. I am lucky to not have any rude people yet.

I laugh at this argument, I have recently raised my prices from my 3k flat rate to 5k for a weapon or armor and 20k for a container (or I will buy the container off them for 5k) I have had a few people yell at me, but then they agree to have me slice it, what they fail to understand is that in my slicing agreement they electonically sign when they enter in a trade with me is that when they complain the price doubles (10k.) Only a few times have I had to warn people a second time, as I already have their item, and if they don't pay (which is also in the agreement) I keep their stuff, and put it on a buddy's vendor for him to sell at retail price. The 20k for containers is because I hated when people were charging 10k to buy containers on my way up master smuggler, so most of the time people sell them to me for 5k, and I give them out to the next novice smuggler I see.
