Thank you for posting this!
I just made Smuggler last night, and I was trying like mad to figure out a way to find containers!
I found one off of a kill...sliced it, got some cool stuff!
I had one handed to me...picked the wrong wire. No I didn't have any clamps, because there aren't any on sale on the bazaar anywhere in Wanderhome...in the entire galaxy. And I checked all of the supposed "Smuggler Vendors" that I could find in the Bestine / AH area, and none of them had any. So I was stuck guessing. Oh well...
But yeah, thanks for the suggestion, Hobbs. It didn't make much sense, paying for containers. I'm the one providing the service, I shouldn't have to pay to provide the service. Or at least provide that service for free.

I'm on corbantis send me a /tell and i'll get you going. I've paid for containers when i started but i had some extra cash plus i kept them. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money. People out there know we have to find loot for xp. If i'm correct we r the only ones who have that problem. Ne way do what you need to do. Trust me you'll win in the end. Monday was the first day i sliced as a master and i made over a million in that day...a girl has to save up for her first ship since she won't be handed one...

Dagnabbit! Thank you for the offer, Koda, but unfortunately, I'm on Wanderhome. My other character is on Corbantis, and I still have the tag for my profile.

Just shout out around Coronet spaceport that you're looking for molecular clamps. I was looking for AUKs and I got three e-mails with waypoints to vendors. You're not on my server, or else I'd give you a fairly nice vendor who sells crates of clamps. Best suggestion is to offer a small fee for slicing, with a guarantee (due to using clamps) that you can slice it open and give them the contents. Like I said, I paid between 250-500 cr per container, and charged 50-75 cr per % of improvement for slicing weapons.
That's the 'honest' way of doing things. I dislike grinding, it's just not my cup of tea. If you're going to go that route it's a good way to build a future customer base. New players just starting out and looking for cheap work (not the best work, just cheap), will remember you when you're a master and their into their own elite professions.
You will, however, have to endure the /tells trying to sell you knives for grinding, asking what level slicer you are and cheese offers for overly priced containers. You'll also take a small financial hit, as more people will ask for container slicing than weapon slicing in the beginning. Like I said, I'm at Slicing III and I'm making a profit slicing weapons now.
Here's another tip. If you're looking for extra money, arrange with a Surveyor-type to use your slots. I've an arrangement worked out with a fellow guild member that I'll put down three heavey harvesters where he tells me and mine what he tells me. He pays maintenance and energy, I get a 25% cut of the money he'll make selling those resources.

If any novice smugglers on Intrepid need a locked container hook up, I'm usually willing to do it. I may ask to see you in person (to see if you are a hologrinder or a true blue smuggler) and chat with you a few moments (to find your impressions about the smuggler profession), but I generally give my containers freely to up and coming smugglers.
Do be warned, the last three smugglers I hooked up with containers, quit the game a month after I gave the containers to them, so I think my lockedcontainers are cursed.

Actually a better idea is to go to a place less commercial, but equally crowded like Anchorhead. Much better chance of getting them for free, as they're out hitting mobs all day and there's fewer idiots buying.

I flat out refused to pay to slice and to buy containers to get through slicing I and II. People were selling them for 6k to 10k per container. Ticked me off just as bad as when i see people spamming that they are selling apprenticeship points.
I made it through slicing after a while.

Hell, if I could /del xp as well as fp I'ld hook up any new smuggler I saw who I didn't think was hologrinding. I've got a plethera of xp I don't use...
You know, that makes me think. If all that's going to happen is we lose the xp if we drop the skills and try to relearn them (the whole max xp per level thing), what's the point of so much excess xp in the first place?

Good advice. If you put some good solid effort in for a day, you'll find all the containers you'll need. I found a guy with 16 locked containers who let me slice them for free back when I was a novice.

Going through this board and my own experiences, I see a few people pining for locked containers to get them through the first (and sometimes second) smuggling ranks. You see them on the bazaar for 6k and people hocking them for 10k each. Do not pay those prices. Instead, save some money and buy yourself a crate of clamps and set up shop outside the Coronet starport and advertise that you're slicing containers. Offer to pay about 250-500 cr to slice and also that the person can keep the contents. Don't go much higher, or shift your prices if things get slow. It shows weakness.
Heck, I put spice inside the containers as a surprise for my customers. Over the holiday weekend, this set up go me to Slicing I and to Slicing II. Then I started offering weapon slices at reduced prices and got through to Slicing III.
From my experiences on Sunrunner, people are generally more curious to see what's in their containers and figure that even if its full of junk or empty, a few more creds does not hurt. Trust me, they'll come to you. And some will even tip a starting slicer for the work. I had a lot of people just give me containers and run off.
I did get /tell'd by someone by the name of Drak that he'd sell me containers at 10k a pop. I laughed in his face.
Just don't pay for those containers, you're being ripped off.

also, if you're in a guild and have a large friend base in the game just ask everyone to save up those containers for you, that's what I've been doing and it works great. Now all I need is some WUKs...... *sigh*

As a casual gamer I unfortunately had to pay for containers. After two weeks of play and only finding 2 containers, wouldn't you? I saw people offering to slice for free so I offered to slice for 1k (owch) and they got to keep whatever junk was inside.
Finally my Guildmates helped me out with their extras and now that I'm also working on WS I should be at Slicing 4 by tomorrow!
