Just out of curiousity, was this post yet just another dev joke? I'm sure this has been asked, however I finally stopped checking this fourm daily many months ago.

I look back on this discussion in total wonderment. I guess it was an aberration.

This was just awesome; an intelligent, thoughtful and creative developer who actually posted proposed functionality in the forum of the profession for which is was going to be implemented, and asking for feedback and comments.

Yes, those were the days...

Contraband

Highly Illegal. A player caught with highly illegal goods will be attacked, the goods confiscated (if the attacked player is defeated), and the player’s visibility will increase. Highly illegal objects cannot be transported via the standard travel system by anyone other than a smuggler. The player must use the new smuggler travel system in order to move highly illegal goods. (This new system will be discussed later.)

This means that no one can carry these goods anywhere unless they are a smuggler? they can't travel to other planets? and just where is the viability of getting these objects if no one will buy them because they prohibit travel??? Or will they be able to use the smuggler travel system if they aren't a smuggler?? That seems a bit out of line.

Old sliced weapons and armor will be converted to have the legality level of “banned.”

I have a question on this. it says "OLD" does this mean that the newly sliced armor and weapons will be different, like Highly Illegal??

Contraband Visibility

The game's "visibility" system will be expanded. Any player can now accumulate small amounts of visibility for a contraband infraction. The amount of visibility will be dependent on the severity of the infraction.

Smugglers may attempt to find out or reduce the visibility of any player by slicing a bounty hunter terminal. Failure to successfully slice the terminal will result in the smuggler being immediately added to the terminal. Clamps cannot be used in this form of slicing. (This will be a new type of slicing, not wire cutting.) More information on this is available in the slicing section.

OK Maybe I"m not too bright here but does this mean that ANYONE can go on the boards for illegal goods? Not too sure the general populace will like that a whole lot.

OK Now that I have placed my reactions to some of the things here I have to say the rest sounds pretty good. Unfortunately I have a question, is this still viable? Or is the way smuggler is now how we are going to stay? We have had a so called revamp but it is nothing similar to these changes. It would also be a great feature to add slicing bazaar terminals and travel terms for people or ourselves, and also be able to slice into housing terminals to reduce maintenance costs like merchants can.

I am not really interested in smuggling spice or illicit goods like that, how about gun running, stolen items of great worth, stuff like that. We are not all interested in being mules or drug pushers.

When I read the opening post I was amazed I read all of it and thought all of it sounded great except for player visability though that would be cool too you can choose whether you want to use sliced goods or not and run the risk, about traveling with the sliced stuff you could bank sliced stuff if you need to use the shuttle I guess but this probably isn't a great idea. The rest is awesome I read it all and thought wow this is amazing I can't wait then I seen the date it was posted and got a sad feeling
