I still say both. Some of us smuggle it. Some of us buy it from them and craft it and sell it. Everyone wins.

JTGAlpha, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter!
Or is it, you got your spice crafting in my Smuggling?
Hehe.

That's the beauty of my system. You don't have to. Some of us gather, some of us make. That's it.

I don't personallyknow a single Smuggler that can honestly say they "enjoy" crafting spices. Smuggling is something that if done correctly, all Smugglers can enjoy, you can't say the same about crafting spices.
I have never, ever, considered Smuggler a crafting profession, and I've been at it nearly a year now. Sure, most of us craft our own tools, but that's a simple matter of getting 90,000 units of Copper, popping them in a factory and waiting... well, for me at least. I've never, not once, sold spice, and trust me, I've tried.
Maybe I'm just missing something, but crafting spices is about as fun as being hit by a car for me. I just don't get it I guess...

My opinion see's the smuggler have the spice crafting tree removed and replaced with something more appropriate to smuggling ( including special modules that can be added to vehicles or starships to allow mass related quantities of illegal items to be hidden). We are simply recruited to deliver the stuff using our special abilities to deliver it unknown to the authorities. I agree that it should be something introduced into the environment by NPC, or even by allowing another profession to craft it, i.e. the Doctor.
Spice became a useless substance in my opinion since the introduction of Doctors buffs, and in parallel to a reduction in the effects or time-limit of a Doctors buff, an improvement to the effects of spice could bring it back into play. I don't want to go to far as this issue is for another thread.
The people who make such substances are rarely the same people who take risks trying to get it through customs.

A) spice won't always be useless
B) I like being a drug dealer. Not everyone does I know, but not everyone doesn't.
C) Let's get real smuggling before DITCHING stuff.

I don't think they should remove spice manufacturing BUT the emphasis should be on smuggling not crafting.
I have no problem if spice crafting and slicing stays in the smuggler tree but I look uponthem as ancillary skills with actual smuggling being what we are all about.
Now crafting Frog Bowls and Gaming Tables *rolls eyes*...THOSE should go to Artisans and Architechts where they belong. The finished products should be contraband and hence a Smuggler should provide safe transportation.

How about smugglers deliver spice from NPCs to player-owned spice dealers? that way, players who own these spice vendors pay both the smuggler and the NPC to get their spice shipment. If the smuggler steals/losses it, he gets a bounty for being naughty. He should get imps spawned on him at his destination if he uses "registered transport" AKA shuttles, who then scan him, or has the possibility of being intercepted in space by imperials or jacked by pirates if he uses his ship (only allowed to launch into space, no direct travelling with spice in the inventory), which would mean one of the following happens:
a. smuggler dumps the shipment for fear of getting killed
b. they take his spice and give him a fine/rob him (kinda like when I /bang ed a stormtrooper)
c. he holds them off or outruns them while he jumps to hyperspace
That's my idea. It could also work with special uber weapons that are only available through NPCs.

Mmmm... smuggle. I am not a chemist, I am smuggler, let me smuggle that spice for criminals all over the galaxy, as long as I can actually smuggle it.
