Thread: Smuggler State of the profession
Just a quick suggestion...add the ability for a master to go overt or covert without the need for a faction recruiter.
It may be unfeasable and/or exploitable, but it came to me and I thought I'd throw it out there ![]()

Not a smuggler myself, I'm just a bit shocked you guys aren't asking for the ability to choose whether you slice armor for effectiveness or encumbrance. Same for weapons, you should be able to choose whether you slice for speed or damage. You would still have variance on how good the slice is, I don't see why a skilled slicer wouldn't know exactly what he was trying to improve.
Read back up through the thread...we asked...
Discussion mainly focuses around weapons, since that's probably 75% of our business...but we also want the ability to choose encumb / effect on armor...
It's all outlined...if not in San's original post, then in my post a little farther down the first page.
I agree we need a dirty fighting move at the master level. My friend pitched me an idea that i thought was very good. If you shoot them with it, it does ego damage. It would do a decent damageand change their title to something like "plays with dolls" or "is a sissy" for a couple of minutes. Even if you lost i think it would be quite humorous. Not sure if anyone else agrees or will even like itbut we can't really get many more good pistol skills.
Well this Idea is a little bit... well lets say "too strange to be serious" ![]()
But I would like a Master-move that makes the Target unable to use its weapon for a few seconds and force it to switch to unarmed combat... (Dont know if Pistoleer's Disarming shot does that, by the way... so forgive me if it does).
I like the Idea of "Smugglers only" weapons... A real cool looking Blaster or why not a "one gun in each hand (= two guns)" - Feature (like in this Jon Woo - action - movies). Of course it should not make ueber-Damage, but it should look cool! Lets say the same Damage as if you had only one Pistol, but with the "Matrix-coolness-factor"
What do you think of a special "Smugglers only" Language? This should make the underworld tree a little bit more useful, perhaps...
A "Masters only" - Spice would be a good Idea for me (lets say less downer or some kind of "gives youBurstrun for 600 seconds but then slows you really down for a while - Spice")... or perhaps the ability to experiment with the downer of the Spices. (I know some guys dont like the Idea of experimentation and getting high quality resources, but I think it would be great to have some more differences between the Smugglers and their Spices)
AND of course we should be able to smuggle things... how it could be done... well there are other posts to this Issue... and I think this should be a great feature for the Space Expansion...
My two cents ![]()

As far as making us smuggle, this idea comes to mind. Say we have a ton of Borvo faction, have his thugs come up to us and offer us Smuggling missions.
For instance, I'm getting healed up in the Moenia cantina after running some missions, one of them comes up and sits down next to me, passes me a confidential folder, and walks away.
This would contain a schematic for some hot item I have to build and take somewhere, straight into the heart of say Jabba country, all the while they'll be after me.
Would make it interesting.
I didnt read all 5 pages but I read about 3.....
First off If they put experimentation on slicing tools. I will probaly stop slicing.... I am not a WS my time is not donated to go on everyplanet evershift to get the best QL..... the once saying that they want this.,.. are clearly not aware the ammount of work that goes into it. after a shift a WS uses about a week to get all set up with the right resources. and even then he is behind someone else that found some better resources. if we made slicing a competive thing. many smugglers would turn to enemies insted of friends that most currently are... Now I do belive they should think up something else.... and how about starting a poll on the issue... I would like to see how many smugglers out there want ql on their things or not
I would seriously hate to have QL on my clamps or knifes. But on the other hand, I don't expect to FULLY control what type of slice I do OR the percent of the slice, but i would like SOMETHING better then a crap shoot. It's insane to be a Master and slice for 15% one sec and 35% the next. I'm a Master!! I was slicing 15% as a novice. Granted I never reached 35% as a novice but I was hitting high 20's and MAYBE low low 30 but don't remember. Point is, there needs to be SOMETHING else that makes being a Master Smuggler worth it.
SOmething else that just totally bugs me. Ok I 'm master but still gaining XP for the skills i use IE Slicing and I'm guessing Spice making. Where do these points go to? A black hole? Are they tracked for something. Ok point i am getting at is simple, USE THE XP!. Example, I'm Master and get a 5% bonus to slicing (which I have yet to notice) so instead of having wasted XP go into a black hole from slicing or making spices, use it as a determining factor for how well I can slice/Spice. The more XP i get the better my CHANCE at slice/spice get.
Don't make this number known though. Simple reason for this is that there are some seriously hard core players out there that will just slice and spice till there little hands/arms/wrists get tired. If the XP is hidden and peoiple don't know how much they have and at what point slicing starts getting better, this puts all smugglers at the same advantage or disadvantage. Of course there should be a cap for how much you can slice and how much XP you get over all. But having it hidden no one would know the magic number.
Along with this XP there should be tiers just like we have for the skills where we get a bonus skill. Say 3 tiers, first tier just adds another 5% to slicing, second tier adds the ability to decide if we want speed/Effect or dmg/Encumb slice and the last tier would allow us to do both but at a lower then normal % do to changing 2 stats at once but all the while your gaining XP and getting betterCHANCE at good slices all the time until..you reach the 4th tier at which point you stop gaining any more XP.Yes eventually all smugglers that continue to play would be aloted theCHANCE to slice the same EXCEPT the percentage would not be controlled. A Master Smuggler with all 3 tiers would still not know or control his percentage. There should be a system in that you know you will never slice below 25% but never higher then say 45%(this assuming your at the 3rd tier). For lower tiers and or Master with no tiers, your CHANCE goes up but your percent range would obviously be lower.
This is just an idea that i think would really work. Every Master smuggler would have a fair chance at reaching tier 3 and not one of them would know when they would hit it. Plus to make it more competative, there should be no set XP for slicing. Containers and everything else except terminals give 250 XP. This should be a max you can get, but should never be the same every time you slice. Although I suggest raising the max to 300 or more and making the minimum around 150 or so. Yes this makes it harder for newbie smugglers because there CHANCE of getting the max XP on a slice is lower..alot lower but i am sure the Devs can put more things in game to slice increasing your chance to move up the normal skill tree.
Apply everything i said to spices only instead of dmg and the other stats, you'd have the chance to craft spice with less downer, higher buff or (at tier 3) being able to craft with less downer AND higher buff but because you crafted with both, the total out come of the downer would not be near as low as crafting for downer only , and teh buff would not be near as high as if you crafted for Buff only.
Ok I made this super long and many have probably gotten tired of my rambling so I'm stopping now.
Hey guys (and gals)!
Newly minted (already getting tarnished though!) Novice Smuggler on Gorath.
I've been reading through this and a few other posts and thinking back to some of the initial blurbs that promised being able to join up with the Hutt or other factions. I think the Underworld tree would work just fine IF we could interact with factions other than Imp or Rebel in the same manner. ie: I could go to a Jabba recruiter (maybe Bib Fortuna?) and pay him off to reduce any negative Jabba faction I have - even buy myself into positive Jabba FP land and then sell those points off to others (Joey? Yeah, he's a good mate of mine - do me a favor, let him into the theme park without shooting him full of holes, eh?)
I'm thinking that this may be what the dev's had in mind all along - but as at the moment we only have two factions that we can do this with the Underworld tree IS basically useless unless you sign up with one side or the other.

Have a smuggler only pistol, called a smugglers pistol or somethin, basically it will have medium to high damage and here is what makes it worth while. It can be double sliced but if it is sliced the second time, a non smuggler weilding this weapon will suffer more weapon decay and slight dmg reduction depending on their level of difficulty.
or etc etc. you get the basic idea it would be a preety handy weapon , and the double slice would help, make it a worth while weapon.
Be nice if smugglers could "smuggle" faction pets and actually sell them, you used to be able to sell faction pets, the discount we get them at would make it a bonus too

I *really* like this idea
