Thread: My report so far from Fan Fest

The developers were offering us a role where we could provide instant trasportation (without the space expansion), improve our spices and slicing, make unarmed useful, etc. There are probably many people including myself, who would have loved for these changes to be implemented. Unfortunately, there were also people who went into protest because this was not good enough for them. As a result, nobody gets anything. (they wanted on the ground delivery missions wheras the devs have planned all along that smuggling was more suited for space)

The developers were offering us something that was reasonable and we rejected it. The same people who rejected it and got us pushed back until after JTL try to make it sound as if the devs have just been ignoring us. It seems to me that these people are trying to point fingers at the devs and cover up the consequences of their own decisions.

Hey, we may be better off in the long run for this, but we cannot blame everything on the developers. I have read the smuggler history as written by the devs several times. It quotes the statments made by the devs but it does not include any of the letters or correspandances detailing where we rejected what they had to offer. Additionally, there were several bug fixes that were implemented. Although smuggler has room for improvement and allot of potential to be "kick ass" so does every other profession.

Regardless of what picture some people want to paint, there was a time when smuggler was overpowered (when panic shot worked right) There was a day when moun and pixie ruled, although the benefits of these have recently been offset by fixes in other professions. Even now, I can make a ton of money doing social things, run a business selling clamps, knives, spices, "aquiring illeagal arms" for people (this is my way of smuggling I go shopping for what people need, make modificaitons and try to provied them with the weapon they want, I even deliver it which oftentimes means I have to get through faction scans. I am do not have to mindlessly spam specials on mobs all day to make money. I get to sell faction, craft, and I do smuggle for players. Smuggler/TKM/Pistoleer is one of the coolest templates in the game, and I have tried just about all of them.

I think that the proposed changes as well as additional space content which the devs have hinted had planned all along would have been more than adequate to satisfy most us. But since a few venomous people are making the decisions for everyone else, we end up with nothing but more delays. I know there are some who will not agree with this, I just thought it should be said because I think there are allot of attitudes that are deliberately trying to stir up anger about one of the most lovable professions in the game.

The professions of this game are like 32 spice fiends in the same room with a few fences. Everyone is screaming for their their fix. If you try to give everyone a little bump at the same time, nobody will be satisfied and the screaming will never end. If you single out each one really hook them up , you will slowly end the screaming. I know my turn is coming, but it still does not ease the pain of realizing I am nobody's favorite ho. Hey guys!

I'm back!

First off THANKS BIG TIME to Fishbrains and Veele for all the effort and the info! That straight up kickAZZ that you guys got ahold of GreenMarine and that he is going to do our revamp. I know a lot of us still have bitterness about what went down (deservedly so too) but I see this as a good turn. I am dying to know about the extra stuff ya'll can't tell us about-

anyway-

I got real dissappointed with the news of our revamp so I took a break away from our forums/problems/emptypromisesto go and test some of the Jedi stuff.

I'll tell you all a little about it-

At first I was excited because I got to MAX out my characters skills (I was a padawan- so I had to fill in the FS skills and fill in any boxes I hadn't yet in my regular skills) instantly.

This allowed me to be a Master Smuggler/Pistoleer-Commando type right away. PLUS I had everything I needed to build and swing a lightsabre.

For my FS abilities I mastered Combat enhancements and I took Jedi luck (took something else but can't remember ATM).

Then I was EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED because:

1) There are no guns on TC2 better than a CDEF! If there is I didn't find it.

2) Couldn't even slice my CDEF as a Master (a dream o' mine) cause I wasn't smart enough to take up Weaponsmith to make AUKs and Wuks.

3) There was NO ONE around BUT other jedi- with nothing better to do than cut each other.

I still had fun swinging my LS though- BUT if you think you are going to kick ass as a padawan you better think again- You can't use force powers with Armor on AND it takes a while to put on and take off armor now- Like a second or three a piece.

Plus you can't just disarm your weapon either! It takes a few seconds to switch from one to another.

I got my ass handed to me from other players- Drall Patriots- storm troopers..pretty much everyone.

Speaking of STs- Jedi should NOT go through Kor Vella. Master Smuggler or no- I pretty much got scanned big time- and I didn't get fined! I got something like "you have10 seconds to comply..." So I just started swinging my saber (cause a CDEF- even with last ditch- sucks). I was dead about 30 secs later.

Low Blow Rocks though. MAN, it was cool to see a ST go sprawling across the ground from a lil' shot to the groin. Heh heh.

Anyway- I plan to hang in there- There are a lot of changes coming up and I wanna be a part of 'em

Mo' later

Nothing is happening until the re-vamp no protest stoped anything.

The developers were offering us something that was reasonable and we rejected it. - if your talking about the bug fix of patch 9 and you really feel that was a re-vamp then you have to have seen that the community as a whole rejected it no a few people and Caylin was at the for front of this because IT WAS WANT THE COMMUNITY WANTED. Are new to this message board? The same people who rejected it and got us pushed back until after JTL - if you thinkwe have that much power i feel bad for you.try to make it sound as if the devs have just been ignoring us. -have youeven looked at the histoy of smuggler thread? It seems to me that these people are trying to point fingers at the devs and cover up the consequences of their own decisions. - OMG, im trying really hard not to flame you, again are you new here?

Although smuggler has room for improvement and allot of potential to be "kick ass" so does every other profession.

Regardless of what picture some people want to paint, there was a time when smuggler was overpowered (when panic shot worked right) - so were are are a lot of professions. And when all the idea the people you are bashing get passed into the smuggler re-vamp and the profession is as it should be you will enjoy the game more. Bottom line no one or 2 people have any power in this community over all people wanted the re-vamp they were promised even before the game went live. If you have folloed this board for more then a few days you might know that. Sorry you were in the small group of people that were happy with the bug fix patch. Other people want more and that is based on what they were told by the dev's.

Jeez, I have decided, that, per this post alone, I'm going to stop posting on the Smuggler threads. I try so hard to go to Fan Fest and get people to listen, and when I post my opinion and information that I have recieved, I get flamed. That's pure bull**** and I won't put up with that. Anything else I find out about the Smuggler Revamp I will be keeping to myself. After E3, I posted here about what I heard and what I asked. After FF, same thing. I think there's only asmall percentage of people that really even care, right now it sure feels like everyone else went smuggler to complain to SOE about how broken this game is and how they are liars, etc. I'm not going to be a part of that. Flame me all you want, call me an eternal optimist, but I truly believe that the Revamp is going to be great, and that the Smuggler community as a whole should stop b!tching about how we've been strung along, devs suck, blah blah blah, and look into the future. GM sent me a message earlier saying he's hoping to have a Formal Document to post within 2 weeks. Have a little faith, I know most of it has been washed away by empty promises, but the fact that the dev in charge of our revamp is here posting gives me a little ray of hope.

Not like my opinion matters, I'll not be posting here again. Thank you for making me see the light, as it were.

Veela, I'll reitterate the appologies you've heard from others in this community. I think people in here are just finally to a breaking point, fuses are short and we're not paying as close attention as we usually do. You've been here for a while, and you should recognize that flames are not what this forum has been about. They are relatively new occurances based on the boiling frustration that's going around as of late.
It would be a shame to lose you from this forum. We're losing too many of our best people as it is, and it would be horrible to lose you due to something that was said in here. In all honesty, the fact that you and FB are excited about what's to come has given me a little bit of reassurance, helped me turn the corner from pure frustration to simple disappointment. So thank you, for you effort in learning everything you could at FF, for letting the Devs at FF know how we feel and what we'd like, but mostly thank you for giving me something more to look forward to. Cuz I'll trust a fellow smuggler much more than someone in a 'respectable' profession.

I think that the proposed changes as well as additional space content which the devs have hinted had planned all along would have been more than adequate to satisfy most us. But since a few venomous people -that is way out of line and just un cool people love this profession and that is one reason they were fighting the bug fix of patch 7are making the decisions for everyone else, we end up with nothing but more delays. - i cant believe anyone is so blind as to think for one min that the dev's would stop a re-vamp because a few people, come on really now. I know there are some who will not agree with this, I just thought it should be said because I think there are allot of attitudes that are deliberately trying to stir up anger - why would anyone want to deliberately stir up trouble? You really dont get it and no one here bashed you. Caylin, Geevo and many others worked and are working really hard to make a true re-vamp happen and this is the thanx they get? about one of the most lovable professions in the game.- no kidding thats why again MOST NOT A FEW MEMBERS OF THIS COMMUNITY WANTED A RE-VAMP DONE RIGHT. Flame away it seem to be what your good at.

Well the love will come, and I will wait, I would buy the expansion anyway. This just gives me time to Master Weaponsmith with my Master Artisan, Expert Weaponsmith, Armorsmith (novice for AUK's), Merchant (for venders) second account character. For some reason I had more fun grinding Weaponsmith xp than being a Smuggler this last weekend.....hehehe.

You know what I see most? I see people upset that we are not we are not getting allot of those little fixes and tweaks. I dont think thatre-doing spices or gainingthe ability to instantly transport people anywhere is a fix or tweak. Additionally, I would have reallyliked to see a spice revamp, theability to instantly shuttle people and many of the other "fixes".

I seepeople upset because the revamp was delayed againand blaming the devs when you clearly say yourself that there were people who were fighting against getting our profession fixed. I see people begging for little tweaks and fixes which some of the leaders are fighting against?

One minute you say that to use the word "venomous" inreference to the attitude of some of the leading members on these boards is way out of line, butin the same breathyou point me to read the anger and hatred referred to in the given posts, by us which kept our fixes and new content from taking place.

Sometimes I really wonder if the forums are the correct place to have decisions made out our profession. I think that allot of the people on the forums are disproportionately angry and they take it out here. It is not long until any positive comment will be agrily attacked.

Well I know why I'm angry.

I'm not angry about getting pushed back.

I'm angry because we've been pushing for this stuff since launch, and not only has it NOT been done, not just the little bug fixes, but something important like our place and role in the game and galaxy (as you know...SMUGGLERS) was not only omitted at release, but is STILL absent.

I'm angry because they continually promise communication, but all they DO is ask us the same questions over and over and over and over and over and over, NEVER responding to the countless answers we've given.

I've been doing this for about 3 years now, here. And I'm sick of getting the same run around. That's why I'm angry, and I KNOW it's why so many of your "venemous" posters are angry. Some of us have been listening to this so long we're just out right TIRED of it. Not that it's not getting fixed, but that we're not getting the communication THEY PROMISED.

JTG you bring up excellent points, but to me it's not even that SaraeItha should focus on. If SaraeItha could take the time to look at all of the posts these so called "venomous" posters have posted over the past year, I think it's plain to see that the posts of anger and frustration are in a much smaller percentage then the thoughtful constructive ones.

A little empathy would go a long way here. These are difficult times for us here, and even the most stronghearted are starting to crack a little. That speaks volumes to the degree of anguish felt here by so many.

I agree, I think that the profession is playable, and enjoyable; but far less so then it should be by this point given the developers much promised time and attention. It's one thing to say that we are complaining about a revamp that we don't need; and something entirely different for us to complain about a revamp that has been promised to us several times. At this point in the games life we should be much better then we are, and that's what hurts. Not much hurts worse the na wasted opportunity...this is what we have here.

I also agree with Yimaz that to think that a few posters here are a driving force on decisions by the devs is stretching the imagination a little. What was proposed was no more then a couple enhancements, and not a revamp. It was rejected by the community at large, but that was only a month or 2 ago. There wasn't any posts about code going into TC for us to fix anything in the 9 months prior to this. I'm not sure what dev changes those people have rejected, but I have not seen them mentioned in these forums. All that I've seen as proposals are ones that were systematically ignored by the devs afterwards.

Whatever the current status of morale in these forums is, rest assured that we are still actively making progress...it's just a bit slow right now. These boards are like a roller coaster ride in these regards...but we will hit a high point once again.

True. I'd like to echo one of Arashi's points, but I'd like to expound on it.

The profession as it stands is playable. To a degree.

There are no problems with slicing, per se, but it is a system that can use improvement. It is our most functional discipline, and yet even it falls FAR short of what it's SUPPOSED to be in terms of Star Wars. Mechanics wise does it work? Yes, and well, though it could be WAY better without compromising balance or fun for the rest of the game. Simple additions to slicing could go a LONG way to making smugglers more necessary as SMUGGLERS in groups, not as another combatant. The system itself could be more robust and intersting, and there are far too many mysteries about it, mysteries that are rife with room to mislead customers, creating problems smugglers have had to face since launch.

Dirty Fighting is also playable. It works, mostly, though lately through a series of nerfs it's usefulness has declined. Feign Death is nearly worthless in PvE because the MOB's start attacking you the moment you break your Feign. This IS a problem because the POINT of FD and other DF skills is to present Smugglers the opprotunity to DISENGAGE from a fight so that they can continue their smuggling business. It's use in PvP is strange, as it basically serves as an escape from PvP death (inherrant to the spirit of it) but at the mercy of your enemy who can blacken your bars like a burned synth-steak. In short, it doesn't convince anyone that you're actually dead. Panic Shot is no longer worthwhile for crowd control except for soloing, and even then precludes the use of other AoE attacks. LD and Low Blow are still functional. Then there is the issue that we have useless Melee skills.

Underworld is only marginally useful to certain segments of the player base. Neutral smugglers (which, according to the continuity, most smugglers were for much of their career) have NO use for any of it. Even factioned smugglers who don't PvP don't get use out of much of the skills. The ONLY usefulness this has, is, I believe unintended. We used it to create our most profitable, and expensive business: FP selling. This trade is only plied by a handful of smugglers on each server because of it's expense both to the smuggler and to the customer. Also, there's many useless skills tied in, such as the +100 language comprehension. This is also the discipline where the most conspicuous vacuum can be felt: lack of actual smuggling, but that'll be separate.

Spices are all around USELESS these days. Which is a shame. This is the ONE trade that is STRAIGHT out of the continuity (although the conceit of us CRAFTING the spice as a metaphor for our obtaining it and selling it is viewed as incongrous with the job of the smuggler, so the fact that this is the most in continuity aspect of what we do is doubly insulting as it breaks continuity, and is now worthless). The ready availabillty of far superior buffs that have far less drawback has ruined the market. This MUST be updated. It is broken.

Then there's the biggest problem of all. We don't smuggle. Even if EVERYTHING in our profession was fixed but this, if slicing were updated, if spices were redone and functional, if Underworld had more accessible activities for all smugglers, if Dirty Fighting was more useful, it wouldn't fix this essential problem. We're smugglers in name alone. Because even if everything worked and we were a playable and fun profession through and through, it still wouldn't change the fact that we're NOTHING like we're supposed to be in the continuity. And that's a HUGE problem. Why? Because I know a LOT of smugglers, myself included, who chose this profession BECAUSE of the continuity. Because of Han Solo, and Lando Calrisean, and Talon Karrde.

So yes, we have stuff that works fine, is fun, and playable, and lucrative. But it's still sad that much of what I do, much of what makes me a smuggler, has NOTHING to do with any of these skills. I haven't made spice in months. I don't PvP. I don't sell faction points or use any of my UW skills. Why? Because that's not smuggling. Instead I've created my own smuggling content in lieu of the developers doing it. I make book. I buy and sell illegal artifacts. And even that's not smuggling, but it makes me feel more like a smuggler. So, while from a mechanics profession, we're not TERRIBLY broken, though we're certainly not working as intended, from a continuity, and role playing standpoint, our profession is nigh on worthless. And that's the crime.

Thanks for letting us in on your conversations with the Devs Fishbrains. I was also surprised that GreenMarine actually existed and appreciated his response to this thread. However, the Customer Communications bridge imho has been burned , thus its too late for me. I had cancelled a few months ago and my sub ends July 26th. I won't rejoin until all the issues for smugglers have been fixed. I salute all those who stay and bow to those that keep up the good fight. As far as you Devs that read this _I_ that is just my opinion.
