The only thing smuggler and BH should have are specials, and the ones in smuggler should work with all ranged weapons. There is NO reason for a Master PIstoleer to be a worse combatant than a Bounty Hunter as far as pistols go. It's not internally consistent, and it doesn't make any sense.
With that line of thinking, then we could say that Commandos shouldn't get the launcher pistol, heavy weapons are thier thing.
Putting pistol mods in Smuggler, like has been done in Bounty Hunter, won't make a Master Gunfighter any worse than a Bounty Hunter or a Smuggler. A Master Gunfighter is someone who's spent a lot of time honing thier pistols skills, and are extremely proficient with a pistol. But it does make sence that A Master Gunfighter, who learns unorthodox techniques with pistols, from either a Smuggler or Bounty Hunter, would be more proficient with a Pistol than those who didn't.
Think of it this way. Two Gunfighters in the old west of similarly equal skill face off. They are both equally fast and accurate. However, one of them is creative with his pistol use. The creative fighter will win, because he did something the other fighter either didn't know about, couldn't do, or wouldn't think of doing.
It makes just as much sence for a Master Gunfighter to pick up Smuggler or Bounty Hunter to suppliment and expand upon thier pistol skills as it does for a Master Smuggler to pick up Gunfighter, or a Master Bounty Hunter to pick up Gunfighter and/or Carbineer. The reason why? To be better than you were before.
To Ace2:
Removing the Unarmed requisit would be like taking the front wheel off a motor cycle. Yeah, you can, and yeah, it could work, but you won't get far. The two things that need to be done are as follows.
1: Fix unarmed in Brawler, as you barely do any damage untill you actually hit Novice Teras Kasi Artist, at which point, your damage output without Vibro Knucklers increases exponentially, and increases geometrically throughout the rest of TKA. Unarmed 3 & 4 need some partially increased damage for the ammount of experience it takes to get from 3 to 4, and from 4 to Novice TKA.
2: Either add unarmed skills to Smuggler(yes, I know we've covered this, I'm just driving the point home
Smuggler is a hybrid profession which is ment to take care of itself when things get hairy up close or at a distance. So far, a Pure Master Smuggler, is barely capable of handling hermit Spider Sentries with a decent sliced Krayt FWG5, and much less if unarmed. Yes, sad but true.

Commandos shouldn't get the launcher pistol. They should get something, but not necessarily a pistol.
Your Old West example basically says exactly what I said. Theconventional gunfighter is fast and accurate. The unconventional gunfighter has merely learned new ways to shoot. In SWG terms, that is represented by special moves. The unconventional gunfighter is likely not anymore accurate or fast than the conventional gunfighter, but the way in which he draws his weapon, holds his gun or fires his weapon can confuse an opponent.
I could understand Bounty Hunter getting some speed and accuracy skills back when they had to master marksman and scout. Without them, they would have been useless. But with the prerequisite of master scout changed to exploration 4, the BH now has enough SP to master bounty hunter AND an elite ranged weapon profession. This throws the balance out of whack, and it needs to be revisited. Pistoleer needs to be a viable profession on its own. Smuggler and BH should give benefits, but nothing that makes not mastering pistoleer more attractive than mastering it.

You are the one that is being selfish, you got tka so you would need the brawler pre-req anyway so it's just an advantage for you.
That doesn't debunk anything. We aren't TKM's because of choice and decided to pick up smuggler after the fact. We are smugglers who decided to use what was available to us to maximize our effectiveness as a master smuggler. If the pre-req was engineering and not unarmed, you'd see a lot more MSmug/AS or WS because the maximization of the profession would allow you to create the weapons and slice them well at the same time. This would terribly unbalance the smuggler profession and punish those who didn't become MS/W-AS by limiting a vital source of income for them, slicing weapons and armor.
Under that same token, the arguement would be against having engineering as a pre-req because you are crafting a food/chemical, not a weapon or armor. Therefore the spice crafting is more inline with the Domestic Arts profession. We don't engineer weapons, we reverse engineer them.
Either way, there are going to be happy people and unhappy people. It basically comes down to different people wanting their cake and eating it too. It's selfish to want to change it for armorsmith, it's selfish to change it for TKA. Why expend so much energy discussing changing the req's for the profession that we are all so passionate about and talk about how to make the profession more like a real smuggler?
