If they want more than what our mission reward gives us then we just have to cheat our employer and take the consequenses...but the player wanting spice from us will pay for it.I also maintain that we will get other items to smuggle that will be of value to players, NOT just spice. It isn't exactly what we want in terms of player to player smuggling but it is a lot damn better than anything we've got from SOE thus far.
This is kinda what I've been talking about, on how the proposed system would lend itself to PC Smuggling. The necessary feature, to me, is that we bring in more to the world than just Spice. I don't want to be running spice missions for the same people all the time. I want to bring in bio-resources for Docs or Chefs, mini-Kryat Pearls for Weaponsmiths, rare creatures for Creature Handlers or Bio Engineers, etc. (There's drugs, gunrunning, ivory smuggling, and exotic animals, to put it into the Real World blackmarket)
Believe me, I personally don't want to be Smuggling player's Sliced gear all over the place. That doesn't seem to like a very efficient system. Like someone said, that turns us into "pets" only traveling from one Starport to the next, with very little actual content. We're FedEx. This would be a rather dull way to play. I may be necessary, but i'm just hired labor to other players, not a specialist at what i do.
And i don't care if someone carries a couple Spices on them. If they get caught with them, there should be a penalty, but not so much that i have to carry some BHs 2 or 3 doses all over the place. You get busted by the cops for one J, no big deal. You get busted for carrying a kilo though, thats something else. Smuggling should be about bulk. Crates of spice or weapons or large quantities of restricted resources should be what is searched for and fined or taxed heavily.
On another note, since is has been said that any Smugging system will require scanning, and this scanning will lag out the server. You don't actually have to scan at every starport. You just need to scan depatures from the lesser populated adventure worlds. I say this because not every place wants to prevent the entrance of illegal goods.
For example: if you travel down to Columbia, are the customs officials in Bogota going to care if you brought drugs in? Probably not. But if you tried to bring those same drugs into the US or Europe or Japan, the Customs officials in those countries will attempt to interdict you.
So while the authorities on Corellia or Naboo would be upset if you bring in Spice or weapons or restricted resources, Endor, Yavin and Lok have no authorities, and thus don't care what you bring on planet. To ease the lag on the system, instead of initiating a scan upon arrival (like Customs in the real world) you innitiate the scan upon departure from those less laggy planets. Just my thoughts.
And by the way, Spinning, I still have to hold my breath for a few months before I turn purple

why dont thye just do something like where you dont smuggle the item, you smuggle the whole person.
I think it would be easier to implement something like that.Or have consequences for transporting illegal goods.
An elite novatrooper would make everyone best friends with a smuggler.

Thanks Tomo,
In that vein, what we should be fighting for IS a really tough punishment system on spices.
We should have an organized front on having spices heavily fined, confiscated and/or the user attacked.
I KNOW that SOE is kinda against the attacked thing as well as confiscation but RIGHT NOW SPICE HAS NO RULES.
I think the playerbase would accept that penalty for spice...NOW. If we wait until after spices are upgraded and then do it, there would be a serious backlash.
We as a community need to find out if the Devs are willing to do something like that.
If they are then consequentially we WILL be smuggling spice for people.
- They will ask for a crate
- You will go to an NPC andobtain it.
- You will have to go through all the riggamarole of carrying large amounts of it.
- You will deliver/sell it.
ThatIS smuggling forPCs.
At least as close as we are going to get for the now.
