I'd have to agree with the Ranger = Special (mobile) Forces (using any and all material at hand to get the job done!!)

I think many are stuck with the D&DRanger in their minds

When I started SWG...I had every intention of being a Ranger...but it was not what I imagined it to be....

Thus I've been a Smuggler ever since, so I, for one say...congrats Rangers....long long over-due!!!

Now....how to mix Smuggler, Bounty HunterSquadleader and Ranger ?

*chuckles*

just kidding

Right, Commandos currently are not special forces. Neither are Marines. They are a main, and possibly THE main, fighting force of the US military. There are special forces Marines (Force Recon). Therefore, currently, you could compare IN GAME Commandos as Marines and IN DEVELOPEMENT Rangers as Force Recon.

My example was british in origin but the analogy still stands. Rangers are light, mobile, clandestine combat troops.

In game rangers = in canon rangers = special forces

In game commandos = in canon heavy weapons = heavy weapons troops

Then we, my friend, are in total agreement...

My 2 credits -

I think a smuggler has no moral qualms with stealing, they just wouldn't lower themselves to this sort of petty pick-pocket style thievery. Its a bit more Oceans 11; entire cargo holds of goods, as opposed to the contents of a mark's wallet. A smuggler's life should involve circumventing the Empire's laws (even for those in the Empire; officers often have expensive tastes and feel themselves above the rules that rule common men) to get a large volume of something from one place to a waiting buyer. It can be in the service of a specific employer, or it could be a case of investing in an item with your own credits from a seller then taking the risk of getting it to the buyer you think will pay the most. In the case of the employer, you have the opportunity for theft, by taking the cargo to a different buyer. Then, just tell your boss you had to dump the cargo to avoid an Imperial scan. I'm sure he'll buy it...

I also think smugglers can blend into their environment to avoid authority, but not by dropping a Predator style camo field. It would be more fitting to allow something like temporary disguises, or even the ability to select a local NPC, and mimic their appearance completely. Such a power could be seen through by certain NPCs, and any attack would drop the disguise. This allows for Han Solo in stormtrooper armor style fun, and provides a stealth function that doesn't turn smugglers into ninjas.

well here goes my 2 pence.....

Smuggling missions.....we need em and desperatly...both ground and space based...

pick upthis glitterstim/high yield explosives/jabba's teddy bear etc from this location and get it to this waypoint on planet avoiding imp patrols/hysterical ex girlfriends/yalara....etc..

Stage one....slicing ships overlay id signal...hey they can prove a thing if your not registering as yourself....

stage two....the run up to hyperspace.......using the main trade routes will get you noticed...best to take a short cut...

Stage three.... bluff/bribe/blackmail starport officials to get the ship down...

and so on till the cargos out of your hands and you run like hell for the nearest bar...

all this is pretty base...but lets say you screw the pooch.....solo got fett.....

as for changes to spice tree....smugglers luck....chances to dodge /evade/lie/run like the hounds of hell are chasing you...that let you do the flashy jump behind convinently placed trash cans to avoid the mad bounty hunters fire....downside....it kills your accuracy/damage....too damn busy avoiding....

also (and this is the one that will light the flames)....give us bonuses for not wearing armour.....how many smugglers would really wander around in full recon armour....sure a piece here and there for protection in those really nasty drop zones....but most would be trying for the cool competancy "i dont need to wear armour here cause were all friends right...fingering blaster pistol type stance"

anyway...agree with the spice tree going....we move the drugs not make em....

duckshis hardly ever posted postieriour behind the nearest hutt and waits for the gunfire...

Hm, so most people seem to think that Smuggler is THE word for ALL criminal activities. Doesn t makes too much sense for me. Lets see... somebody who steal things from others... I would call that a thief, somebody wo kills people might be a murderer, there are peops who sell other people, also criminals, but nope, no smugglers, think they are called SLAVERS...

Lets see, there is another sort of crime, its where ya take things from one place to another, without anyone knows about it, at last noone who shouldn t know about it. This sort of crime is called smuggle, if I m not totaly wrong, and what type of criminal might do things like that?? YEAH,a SMUGGLER, right.

Only because the Smuggler is the only "some kind of criminal profession" in this game, it doesn t mean that a smuggler is THE criminal in this game. Look at a dictionary, I bet you won't find ALL sorts of crimes at the explanation of the word "smuggler", smugglers just smuggle, if not, they are no smugglers....

And if you don t want to smuggle, but ya want to STEAL things, why not just switching to ranger?

Let's not forget that killing is a criminal act

A Rebel smuggler should be able to go to vader in the Imperial themepark and get missions (edit: different missions from the ones given to the theme park questers). Stuff like that. We should have a 50/50 chance to shuttle in and out ofcities that we're banned from. Etc...
