First and foremost about combat? I call shenanigans. Nothing in this game requires you to even use a weapon if you don't want to. It's a ROLEPLAYING GAME first and foremost. There are people without any professions, who never leave their home town. And housing? How's that combat related? Master artisan? crafting speeders and radios sure requires a lot of combat mods.
I don't like to be mean, I try not to, but that is the most ignorant thing I've ever heard anyone say that wasn't a glowbat swinging 1337whore.
Do a lot of people play this game solely for the combat? Yes. More than there are roleplayers? Probably. But the game wasn't designed for that, which is just one of the reasons it's so incredibly screwed up right now.
Smugglers are called a hybrid for a reason. The idea behind our "amazing" specials, is that since we don't have the speed mods of pistoleer or Bounty Hunter, we get specials that let us strategically win, or escape from a battle that we weren't expecting to get into. Smuggler, as originally designed, had more prerequisites, including part of Artisan, to encourage a diverse group of smugglers. Businessman-like smugglers, rough and tumble bar-brawling smugglers, smugglers who spent a lot of time running through the wastelands of tat, etc.
Yes, Half your specials are broken. Half our specials have been nerfed, and that's only 1 tree. the other two trees that really do anything have been nerfed into the ground, and one of them turned us into a bunch of spamming whores for a while. The 4th tree's best ability is UNDERSTANDING LANGUAGES, which, with the exception of 3, any n00b can.
Furthermore, Our profession has been described as "unfinished" by the Devs, since BEFORE the game went live.
We have been waiting on a revamp that has been promised to us for something like 2 years. And then you want to try and nerf us some more.
Maybe you guys want feign death? Hm? wouldja like that? Then you can wave your DE-10s and Geo blasters, and DX-2s in our faces, and laugh because you finally killed our profession. Oh speaking of which, you guys have THREE pistoleer certed weapons. We have.... NO smuggler certed weapons.
For a Corr, you'd think you'd already be aware that the BH speed mods aren't to blame for your slow as crap specials. It's bad math. Pistoleer is supposed to be the fastest ranged weapon, but what is? oh, RIFLES. They screwed up the calcs, and didn't account for player ingenuity.
Again, usually I try to be lighter about things, but man, that just rubs me raw.
I don't think you get what the pistol correspondent is saying.
Some smugglers cry for pistol speed/accuracy mods for the CU. He is just saying that would be a bad idea. That isn't nerfing anyone.
I think the mods from BH need to be removed in the CU. What you have left are only specials in BH and Smuggler. BH's get ensnaring specials, and Smugglers get evasive specials. Hell you could make these specials work for any kind of weapon.
Furthermore, put significant mods into Novice Pistoleer. By doing so, a smuggler or BH wanting to climb up their pistol trees quickly can do so with a minimal investment into the PISTOL profession.
By doing these steps, you can:
- Ensure that Pistoleer is viable in its own right, even without the need to stack BH or Smuggler.
- Keep BH and Smuggler flexible professions, regardless of the combat profession you might pick up to support it.
- NOT nerf Smuggler. Smuggler has no innate mods anyways.. just specials. By allowing these specials to be evasive in nature, you allow a smuggler to do their job.
Whyyou guys get worked up over a correspondent saying that their profession should be viable by itself is beyond me. Pistoleer is the one combat profession you can stack similar offensive skills with... and the one that is nearly entirely useless even if you DO stack them all together. I think that being able to stack mods is why the Pistoleer profession is so gimped in its own right, and why you NEED to stack Pistoleer with BH and Smuggler to even be somewhat close to being as capable as other combat professions can by themselves. Even piling up pistol skills like this leaves you eating the dust.
A strong Pistoleer profession IS needed. It needs to be strong in its own right, and I think you guys are getting worked into a frenzy for absolutely nothing.
Putting all pistol mods into Pistoleer will ensure that if you choose to use your Smuggler specials with a pistol, that you don't have to pick up BH too. Get me?

BH is a great prof, Smuggler is a great Prof. However, I think that Pistoleer should have all the mods, and Smuggler/BH Specials should work with all ranged weapons, because there is nothing that says Last Ditch has to be a Pistol move, just odd coding by the devs. Also, while I really like Torso Shot (don't have it myself, but my GF does, and a few BH friends do too) but c'mon devs, setting someone on fire with a PISTOL?!!!! That's just weird. And no, I'm not trying to get BH nerfed, but Torso Shot is just....odd. All Hybrid Profs should have NO mods at all. And get rid of Ranged support in Marksman, change it to Heavy Weapons. That way you have a viable line to get to Commando/BH. Just make Master Marksman a requirement for Smuggler too, even tho that would hurt my template (As well as several other Smugglers [Triple Threats would be gone]) But this seems like a natural progression to make Pistoleer a viable combat prof in it's own right.
Just adding my 2 cents to the rest in the bucket

Yeah Uh huh I see your point BHs should be required to take up pistoleer just to have decent pvp skills with pistols. I just do not see that as being fair whether it be carbineer or pistoleer. Its just not a fair solution. Just to lay some facts down for you on the BH point of view.
A BH will spend more points getting his pistol mods then a master pistoleer will spend. The BH has to master marksman you know because we are real rifle users. BH has to go up terrain negotiation in scout. You know with speeders and so forth its so essential. Be mindful it really dosent give you a bonus on flat surfaces just up and down hills. Seeing as all cities npc and player cities are flat not much of a bonus.
Here is how it should be if you spend a moderate amount of points on combat. You should be able to stand alone, but only if you fight accordingly. You must accept that you will have achilles heals. A riflemen should be fantastic at range, but if the opponent is a carbineer or pistoleer and gets close the riflemen should be swiss cheese.
Now keep in mind most of these abundant BHs you are seeing are snatch and grab artists. They comein swipe up the invest or the llc or the pistols. All you will do is further weaken BH by removeing mods. Like it or not BHs paid for these mods, and if you see a Master BH that is a player that dedicated alot of time to the mastery. Its not a camping profession.
The BH pistol tree has three shots to it Fast blast eye shot torso shot.
Fast blast is an utterly pointless move it just hits all the pools.
Eye shot is basically the BH head shot seeing as BH paid his dues in master marksman rifle it should crossover in some fashion.
Torso shot is a burning shot, and one that is limited in its stacking now.
In other words you could get comparable moves for less skillpoints then the BH spent to get them.
Note on ensareing guess what that was the bh carbine line. Before it got utterly nerfed. Fairly I might add BHs used it to pin other players and the devs marked that as abuse which it was. Trapping no matter how much the BHs begged for the traps to be useable in pvp the devs outright said no. So if your thinking the devs will ever give the BH an ensnare your a little off kilt.
BH has a disadvantage to pistoleers in one respect. BHs have no evasion whatsoever. This is why BHs desperately need those skill mods in their tree. A BH is all offense no defense whatsoever. So if the BH had no accuracy or speed mods. He would be utter toast. There in lies the truth of the matter. A BH has a throbing weakspot for all his mods. He will be hit nine times out of ten.
The smuggler is completely different then BH and Pistoleer. The smuggler gets no skill mods period. Gets no weapon certification, and all the attacks in smuggler are really desperation shots, or attacks meant to allow a smuggler to get away.
You guys are being egocentric and self serveing. There are numerous ways your profession could be helped without destroying smuggler and BH. You can push for a pistol cert for a faster weapon. You could ask for pool specific shots. With the CU comeing up if you ask most players they want to remove cheap FOTMs like TKA/RIFLEMEN. The truth is for the points spent those professions are seriously overpowered. You want to be great in combat you should be expecting to spend 200 plus points in it.
Personally I get the fealing you guys have hybridized your toons. Your a high level crafter and a pistoleer. Otherwise this would not be an issue for you. Seeing as there are a number of professions that you could combine with pistoleer to double or tripple your attack output. Makeing pistoleer a required profession for BHs is not the answer combineing your profession with another profession is. Can we get away from the cookiecutter template system. A BH should be equally valid to combine with pistoleer or riflemen or ch or smuggler. Neutering the BHs weapons mods is not the answer. The BHs mods are not increadible or excessive they are reasonable for the points spent.
I took the time I spent a ton of skillpoints. I shouldnt be neutered, because a profession that takes just a few more points then master marksman to master thinks it should be super uber. It shouldnt.
Did it EVER cross your mind that this idea would CHANGE the prereqs of BH?
Bounty hunting first of all defines the way you earn your money.
Secondly the tools you use for that.
My BH would be one happy ba$tard if I could use the specials with the elite combat profession of my choice, be it a melee or a ranged profession. And just that you know. My first choice would be a ranged one.
Saying we should have to get pistoleer to get mods to add to our specials is like telling a Creature Handler that he needs to be a ranger to better control his pets.

Did it ever occur to you that some BHs actually mastered the profession long before the first jedi popped up and the profession was mastered for its unique take on ranged combat. -So did many other profession get mastered before Jedi. What is your point with bringing Jedi up? BH is not all abouthunting Jedi.
Being that the profession was a jack of all trades with pistols carbines rifles and special heavy weapons. -That makes it very flexible, why do you fight so much against more flexibility?
No real BH would have said what you just said the title is just a name. -I said BH is just a title? Interesting. Tought I said "Bounty hunting first of all defines the way you earn your money." Silly me.
Wrong BH is not just simply a system meant to accomodate the jedi system. Like smuggler isnt a profession built to accomodate BHs. -Jedi again...Where do I even point in a vagueway to Jedi? Why can I even be wrong in that point then?
The facts are I spent a ton of skillpoints mastering BH, and that was before master scout was removed as a prereq. On a hole the MBHs then were proud of their title, because it took work and effort, and dedication. -So am I proud of my title as MBH and of course of my title as Master Smuggler.
You know maybe pistoleer should just be removed from the game why do we need three pistol professions anyway. Some of pistoleers mods should be given to smuggler since smuggler spends more on smuggler. Maybe pistoleer should require mastering scout trapping line or artisan surveying.
You guys need to learn to shut up and stop trying to get everyother profession nerfed. -1. There is no nerf possible if the CURB really brings that much change. 2. Removing Pistoleer because we don't need 3 Pistol professions? I think you should shut up and stop distributing verbal diarea.
