I think you guys with the "Be your own Smuggler" idea have this backwards. What if my Smuggler wants a nice DL-44 like the others? Its not going to kill anyone and frankly, we could use a Black DL-44 XT. It seems like many of you are looking down on us if we in any way remotely have any similarity to Han or Dash or Lando or anyone else. I fly a YT, am I a Solo wannabe and clone? Will I be condemned? Am I not an authentic Smuggler because I choose to fly the ship or use the pistol? Am I copycat worthy of your scorn?

Guys, remember that this is a game first, experience second. If you all have problems not wanting to build up the DL-44, a preferred weapon by many players, because you all have hangups about what Smugglers should be in your mind is folly. I think it would be nice to have a nice black DL-44 XT instead of that horrible metal one. We Smugglers need the love anyway so lets get all we can get! We deserve this!

The whole point of the "Be your own Smuggler" movement is that if you want to have the DL44 you're welcome to it, just choose pistoleer as your secondary profession. Just like How I'm going to be a smuggler who keeps a tactical smg hidden... somewhere... might have to wear a spec ops duster while I'm wielding that one. There's quite a few Smugglers who will also be walking talking one man aerial strikes, with weapons Arnold Schwarzenneger would find excessive.

The renegade defines who we are as smugglers no more than the dl44 does. It's simply the default tool we have access to. It's probably not going to be the one I use most frequently. Not because I don't like how it looks, simply because I'll have other weapons I find to be more suited to my character.

If you feel the dl44 is suited to your character, then take up pistoleer.

Ugghhh... what a horrible weekend. Sorry I haven't posted more documentation on the DL-44 and how it fits into the Underworld (aka why smugglers would choose it) as I said I would. As I mentioned, I went to the chiropractor for back/neck issues on Friday and spent most of Friday eveningand pretty much all of Saturday in bed with my back feeling strange afterwards. Anyway, here is one source I was able to find fairly easily this morning. It's from the Star Wars ccg game made by Decipher. The card in question is "Han's Heavy Blaster Pistol" (the other blasters in the game are other models). Anyway, here's what it says about the DL-44.

"BlasTech DL-44 heavy blaster pistol. Short range, but relatively powerful. Carries enough energy for 25 shots. Illegal or restricted in most systems."

As you can see , the "illegal and restricted" part adds to it's underworld nature. Combine that with the previous info I posted and you can see that the primary peoplecarrying this weapon would not be your day to day pistol users, but rather those who if caught have nothing to lose and must do what's necessary to survive. Once I get feeling better, I will try to dig out the other book I think I have that mentions the DL-44s background.

Okay, one thing I have to say about the argument of that line from the Star Wars Guide to Weapons and Tech. You know, the one everybody keeps tossing out saying that the DL-44 was "favored by Gunmen and Smugglers"?

Well, has anyone bothered to see who made the book?

Look at that part I made bold. If memory serves me correctly, isn't that the same man who said in an IGN interview, and I quote: "First I’d apologize that we were misleading at all, if that was the case, or if he was misled and had expectations for a Smuggler revamp."?

If so, what makes you think this guy isn't just blowing smoke up our collective asses?

Actually, the first edition one where the quote is from was written by someone else.

Mine says Text by Bill Smith and was published in 1997. I believe you have the next edition that they released after AoTC.

Just wanted to add that I believe the arguement is moot however. It doesn't seem like the majority of the smugglers are concerned where the devs have placed the DL-44. While I disagree with the devs, there is little support to continue on with these discussions. I agree that there are many different issues that should have our focus such as the CU and the Revamp.

So that is my final 2 cents on this topic, not happy with the devs but willing to live with it and focus on the other aspects of our smuggling.

Well, my post was a day late anyway, mainly because I had to first go to the Hastings I work at and find the book, then take a look through it. Well, I worked that day, so, I had to wait to post. Guess I didn't find the right copy. Oh well.

Personally, Kaitlin will be packing as primary weapons, her old friend the sah-weet and underrated SRC pistol, and a hellaciously vicious Razor knuck. I'll own a Renegade, of course, But I expect I won't use it as much as the SRC. It's always, always been my favorite of the pistols. I even used one regularly back in my M. Smuggler/M. Pistoleer days, though of course, I kept my Saturday Night Special FWG around for special occassions, it being a sweet pre-nerf krayt.

I might consider a DL-44... if I could trick it out with filed sights, a non-standard scope and an overcharged power regulator... but if I could make a DL with Han's mods, I don't think I'd waste it on a Blastech.

But, hey, if you want it, go for it. The box is there and you've got the SP for it. I figure Han was at *least* a Smuggler/Pistoleer anyway.

Also, Re: Han and the DL-44, It's been said (most notably, perhaps in the Arms and Equipment guide for the RPG, which seems to use the same reference material that the game favors), that much of the DL-44's popularity in sales was attributable to the high-profile Han Solo's use of it. It also states that the weapons effectivness had much more to do with Han's skill and the modifications he made to it than the stock specs. This says to me that the pistol doesn't matter much itself-- it's your proficiency with pistols(pistoleer tree), and modifications(slicing) that makes it worthwhile. But take that as you will. I'm content with not being a Solo, so I'll just be happy that I'm not from Corellia, don't fly a YT, and don't care to carry the blaster. Your milage may vary. I'd really prefer that we not give the Pistoleers further ammunition for demanding what exclusive guns we *do* have, though. Especially since the Renegade *is* stated to have found popularity with pirates and smugglers in particular.

Remember, people, Han was an excellent pistoleer (Read the Han Solo trilogy!). If the devs want to put the DL-44 at master pistoleer let them. I won't be losing any sleep over it. We'll have our own pistols, so we'll still be unique, there's nothing to cry about.
