I have one of those lists! It's... just... empty.

Maybe a Jedi reported me because I compared us to them.

More likely because you're not posting in pink.... just a thought.

ROFL.

I love you guys. Angus, Hotdog, Keck, and of course you too Veela. You guys are like mirror images of my thoughts opinions, and sometimes attitude. You're just so much fun to post with.

But I do have to declare that I am the best looking one out of us all. Sorry.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Is that certified? because well, Veela... She's probably got a plaque or trophy or sceptre or something attesting to her hawtness...

I agree with this much, at least. Huge thanks to GM for his outreach to the community!

The rest of it.. eh. I can't say for sure until I see it, but given the current state of the CU and my preconceived notions, I see some *huge* flaws:

  1. There's no way that big slices will be that significant. The Dev team seems committed to maintaining the damage cap. Until that goes away, your 60% T4 slices just aren't happening. Given the current situation, 12% on a decent weapon looks generous.

  2. We'll need our customers to supply the looted parts, at which point we've lost all our negotiatingleverage. If a guy spends 2 million credits on a loot bit, he's not going to pay you a significant amount to attach it to his weapon. He'll find his friend Joe Smugglerand have it done for free. Talk to crafters in WoW if you don't believe me.

  3. We're far more dependent on other players than before. We used to be angry that we needed WS/AS support in order to get Upgrade Kits. Now we'll need to kow-tow to JEDI defenders in order to get any significant loot drops. Yup! The same Jedi that we regularly hate on.

  4. Large dungeon raid groups needed for grabbing parts from the DWB/Corvette/Avatar? Ok.. sure. Mando is tough to get too, and people manage to put that together. OH WAIT, Mando winds up in PA halls as decor, since collective efforts are for collective gain. One slice to disperse among 6 players? Good luck with that.

That's all I have at the moment.. but I'm a pretty cynical guy. I'll think of more.

Fair enough Evarn,

What I'm having trouble with right now is that we're suddenly equating a high end slice with the materials needed for a high end weapon. A slice is not a weapon, a slice is a jury rig or alteration to improve a weapon or armor and I don't think that a trek into a dungeon is needed to do this.

Our fingers are so nimble and dexterious that we no longer need knives or clamps to perform our magic, yet suddenly we need to become Indiana Jones and search for the Mystery's of the lost Firing Pin to uber up a weapon?

Like I said, I can see the logic in both arguments here and that's why I'm torn - but I just don't think enough thinking has gone into this yet, or if it has, it hasn't been shared with us.

Cheers

But again, we don't have to be the ones going down into the dungeons to get these items. We can be Smugglers and use our "contacts" (other players) to locate these items and make deals with those contacts to get the components.

That sounds more like being a Smuggler than going down into these areas and fighting to get the components. And I'll role play the hell out of it, and I'll have a great time. And I hope that other Smugglers will do the same.

I know that many people here will not agree with that, because that requires *role playing* and *make believe*. How *dare* I suggest Smugglers do something like that in a Star Wars Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game.

VERY much agree!

Its becoming a little disheartening to see how much a lot of us seem to want everything spoonfed to us, I've always thought of smugglers as the great RP profession of the game. I can see nothing but good things from this from an rp standpoint just wish we could keep a bit of an open mind as a community

"An open mind is a fortress with it's gates open and unguarded."

I don't mind going to the extra effort for a goodslice. I *do* mind having my roleplaying supersmuggling opportunities be completely dependent on the services of a Jedi Defender. In this instance, it's the Defender that does all the work, and I push a few buttons at the end. Gee, I wonder who will be making all the money with this new system?

I don't think you're supposed to use bunny-ears when ya pulled the "quote" outof your ass.

Don't bet for a second that Defenders or the new Jedi Template of the Week won't be waltzing over these mobs while we struggle to find a group for them. That's the whole point of being a Jedi. If they weren't an uber Alpha-Class, nobody would play them.

I should also mention, I HAVE made a thread that propose a DUAL system as a compromise, that let's Smugglers "tune" a weapon, that would require regular Smuggler maintenance to stay in tune, while the loot-slice would be permanent. So yea, there's a way for people who don't like loot to have something.

Well, I mean of the men, anyways...
Veela is in a class all her own on that one (being the only female in the list...)

I was gonna say something, and then I saw this...

Seriously, I just wish people wouldn't look at T2/3 slices as "mediocre." That should be a normal slice. The T4 stuff should be "elite" slices, something few people will be able to achieve (much less afford!)

I lubs you guys.

With the speed weapons are currently decaying at through use, no one's going to want to even bother getting the level 3 and 4 slices done except on anti-decayed items. I know I, for one, am not going to be thrilled about going to the DWB once every two weeks when I have to replace my gun. Even less thrilled about paying 3 million to get another top end slice every two weeks.

So, think about that. Each person is going to get one, possibly two weapons sliced to the full extent. Ever. Some of them won't bother at all. That's business lost simply because the process is too time consuming to justify the period of use they're going to get out of it. Once everyone gets their single anti-decayed weapon sliced up to the fullest extent, then what? DWB -- empty and untouched once more. Avatar Station -- empty and untouched once more. No one's going to want to do this every month any more than they want to replace the candles in their house.

The solution? They don't buy candles any more and they won't even bother getting the top notch slices. Which means that we've just shot ourselves in the foot and accepted half of the potential new content simply by settling for the mediocre patch job the devs are pushing on us. Sure, we'll still do plenty of level 1 and 2 slices, since they don't require any huge expenditure of time and resources, but no one's going to make this extra effort for the best stuff if it's only going to last them two weeks.
