Thread: Ah! Correspondents roaming the halls!

Actually GM gives me too much credit.

I had low hopes of actually seeing GreenMarine at the Summit given how busy he is.

During the meeting we were having at the SOE offices, (Which was completely awesome btw) we had a lunch break. As that drew to a close though, Randonb informed me as we were going back into the meeting room that I had just missed GreenMarine pass by. After a bout of cursing I resolved to eventually search the offices of SOE till either they brought me back under escort or I found him.

Yet I quickly forgot about that, given how involved we were with the discussions we were having during the day. The key that led to me finding GM though, was Pappi and a parched throat. She was coming back down the hallway with a soda in hand, andI was dreadfully thirsty. So I started roaming the office areas looking for the vendor. I then started to read the names outside doors in mild curiosity as I wandered and saw the wonderful tag that led to the hard-working GM that I have learned an entirely new appreciation for.

I must admit, I wasn't really polite. I just kinda barged in and said 'There you are! I've been looking for you!' (I was kicking myself the rest of the day about that, what a stupid way to get his attention.)

As first impressions go, I doubt it was the best one I could have made. Yet it did have the desired effect of having him talk to me for a few minutes.

Some of the other correspondents, who I also believe to be looking for the vending machine as I think Pappi was guiding them to it's location, saw what was going on and completely sealed all means of escape (The doorway). Time was quickly out though and we had to return to the discussions about the combat revamp.

I did ask GM to post here to let youknow he was aliveand I am absolutely thrilled he was able to. I told him it could be a thirty second blurb, but just please let you all know that you are still around and thinking of us (He is, very much so). He was very straightforward with me and there is simply no way to describe the possitive impression I got from this.

When he says he is busy, it isn't a joke and when he says he apologizes, he means it. This man was so busy it was almost frightening.

I managed to seal his permission to visit him later and when the next opportunity presented itself I did exactly that. Bringing with me my printouts of the problems/solutions I have, as well as group visions of smuggler roles and lots of other juicy material.

In total it was about thirty pages of pure smuggler related information. I tossed it all at him, so there is no doubt he has it I came prepared for this very situation and he even went through a few things there with me.

We talked about a variety of things. Smuggler missions (Which I said was issue #1, as far as making us real smugglers. Hope you agree), smuggler experience, rewards, risks, slicing (And how random it currently is), personal weapons... As much stuff as I could in the limited time we had (15 minutes).

Even discussed the power-up slicing exploit.

We managed to drag this overworked dev to dinner that night. He not only had to go back to work after dinner, but was talking about working over the weekend.

Though not before he gave us many hilarious stories about different bugs and issues he has come across while working on SWG.

GreenMarine has my utmost respect folks. He is trying to get to us as well as he can but we all know that we are second-fiddle to JTL as far as his current priorities.

Thanks for the update Caylin

I know some people have said they have jobs and that they can still manage to make posts... well, perhaps this little description will inform you of how much work many people in the games industry end up doing.. their hours are insane and probably break several human rights laws .

I once went to interview the project manager/producer of a development studio in North Wales (Jester Interactive if anyone's interested.. I was required to interview someone in the games industry for the project management module in the first year of my uni course) and he made it clear that the hours for people in the industry are mad, for the most part no matter where you go (he'd of course come up with a system that meant you worked 9-5... although if you missed your targets you then ended up working overtime and over the weekends..).

What am I getting at? Well, many of us are bitter at the way we've been treated over the last year. It may be difficult to seperate red names from other red names, but in this case it should be clear - GM is not the one that's been stringing us along. The reason he's not been with us anywhere near as much as we'd like is that his body requires him to eat and to sleep and occasionally relax (aka snoozing ).
