Thread: SLICING Don't break my weapon, please

Please help me get this message out. It's unheard of for them to add a second way for people to lose their weapon in game (or armor). They already have condition. It's ridiculous to make us now have a chance to "break" it altogether. No it is not acceptable that I will need to find a smuggler before I can fight again! What do you do if you're in the MIDDLE of a big battle, PvP or not? That's just unheard of.
What they should do INSTEAD is the following:
Do NOT make my weapon "break" to the point of being non-functional.
DO make my weapon "lose the slice" until I get the slice fixed by a Smuggler.
Basically, this means that the better the slice, the higher chance that that slice will "unslice" itself during combat.
Honestly, I think my solution isn't even right, but I have this feeling that they won't take away this whole "weapon breaking" feature.
Look here. The percentage is "very low". Does that mean 1%? 1% means 1 shot out of 100 will break your weapon. How long does it take YOU to fire 100 shots?
While I can see why you don't like this idea, I have to entirely disagree with you, not only because I'm a Smuggler who loves the idea of repeat business, but also because balance and feature wise, it really makes sense.
Having your weapons sliced is supposed to be a risk vs. reward thing.. at the moment, even with the scans, it really isn't all that risky for full templated combat characters to use them. This adds that sense of risk for using a higher powereditems in combatand balances it out wonderfully in my view... my view could be wrong however, so I advise you try it out for yourself on TC and give some constructive feedback on what you find there.
....That is of course, when it comes back up..
So glad the smugglers finally get some loving!
I like the idea of repeat business for smugglers, and don't mind the idea of weapon breakage, since well I have the choice to slice my weapon. But what happens if it turns out that you won't be able to compete well without slicing? You guys would become the next Pre-Cu Docs. The only time that I would disagree with this idea is if it becomes nessasary to get stuff sliced to play efficently, since we have no control over when it will break.
Just my 2 cents
Condition should not be effected by a slice, but performance should.
I suggest, if a sliced weapon “jams” automatically un-equip the weapon (to symbolize the weapons jam) then reverse the slicing bonus to a penalty until fixed by a smuggler. i.e. +10% speed slice becomes a –10% speed slice

All who say its good for RP are wrong. Did you see Han carry 5 guns with him ? "/shout you silly storm troopers wait my pistol broke, got to get another one !!!". And how many smuggler do you see running around with tools on them ? I might see a smuggler once a week. Also most of the players that play regulary use a sinlge weapon that they invested in and breaking will piss many of them off.
For some reason your mistaking Role Playing with mimicing the movies. As a Smuggler I run around with 3 crates of knives, 4 WUK's 6 AUK's & 10 MC's in my backpack and storage driod for when the need arises.
Note the point that if you use 1 single weapon, I'm assuming high class weapon ie Krayted, then you all ready have an advantage. Having a slice on that weapon with NO risk would throw that weapon out of balance. If your weapon is that great then don't get it sliced and don't run the risk!
A Smuggler is not going to point a gun at your head and demand that he slices your weapon! Its your choice not ours.

Now, about your reading skills. Check the notes and posts again from Tiggs and you'll see that she said THREE weeks, not ONE. That's the difference between me holding up 3 fingers instead of just 1 finger. (Guess which one?)
Hahahahaaaaa! Quotes like these really make me love the Smuggler forum. That one was priceless.

It's all well and good to say "we like the new system" but what if our customers don't? Oops, no one wants slices anymore, no business at all - let alone repeat business.
We talk of risk and reward. Lets look at the figures. 8% damage and 10% speed. At double mastery a speed slice like that is pretty much as irrelevant as it was under the old system (it drops my pistol speed by about .12 seconds) so what we're offering is an 8% damage increase with the risk of critical fail that renders the weapon unusable until you get it repaired by a smuggler (Has anyone yet checked the numbers on test centre to see if it's an 8% to max damage or does it work like powerups giving an increase closer to 8% of minimum damage?).
After the first time they die due to weapon failure when fighting a high level mob, or have to give up their evening of PVP because their favourite weapon broke and they need tosearch fora smuggler to repair it, how many people are going to come back to us to get more weapons sliced just to get 8% damage? I've been holding off doing slices for people now saying a new system is coming but even under the current broken system I have a chance to get over 8%
I simply don't see 8% as being a sufficient incentive to risk the chance that your weapon could fail completely at the worst possible moment. About to fight that ancient krayt? Hmmm, had my weapon sliced 2 weeks ago and it hasn't broken yet, better not use it for this in case it breaks. So why get it sliced when I can't rely on it at the times I need the extra performance the most?
We need to be able to get better increases in the weapon now that slicing carries more risk and instead of the weapon becoming disabled it should suffer a reduction in performance to below it's unsliced levels, that way breakage is going to make your fight harder but is a lot less likely to lead to a "what the hell just happened???? you have been slain by etc".... moment.

Then I'll keep making money the same way I'm doing it now, but with some good sliced weapons.
I've always believed that sliced weapons and armor should be a Smuggler perk, and not available to the general public, anyway... but that's just me.
i can't wait for this to get in game. i just wish the slicing process was more of an interactive twitch based mini-game, rather than popup boxes with simple choices, because that would be kinda fun

What's my downside again? I *never* made mad credits slicing things.

Any player with a brain that functions beyond keeping them breathing and heart beating carries more than one weapon. I find it a little comical that you're basing your complaints on percentages, and then admit that the changes are something you don't even know about.

See above. Players carry more than one weapon. Most groups I've seen have at least one Smuggler in it for base takedowns. Not exactly a strong argument you're making at this point.

Or maybe, just *maybe* players will have sliced weapons to use on that Ancient, while their best weapons just have power-ups. Maybe players will think a bit instead of just click and follow. Maybe players will enjoy the added risk factor of using a sliced weapon. I know once the new slicing program hits the production servers I don't expect a flood of requests for slices to incredible weapons. I expect to have people ask me to slice their generic AS-crafted weapons so they can test things out, see how it works. Once the playerbase knows what the heck is going on, then I expect I will see the occasional super-weapon for a slice, and the players will be asking for specific slices.
We need to be able to get better increases in the weapon now that slicing carries more risk and instead of the weapon becoming disabled it should suffer a reduction in performance to below it's unsliced levels, that way breakage is going to make your fight harder but is a lot less likely to lead to a "what the hell just happened???? you have been slain by etc".... moment.
Oh I'll get paid, I'll get paid alot for my trouble or you won't get your weapon sliced simple as that. I'm quite happy to run around with a weapon tht is better than anything anyone else has. I'm quite happy to put a 10mil deposite on a ADKed weapon. I'll charge more simply because the person demandingadeposite does not trust me. There are plenty of PvPers out there that will always want a slice because it adds that little more damage in PvP. I'll know eactly what slice to give weapons as I am a PvPer and I probably know better than most customers what they want out of their weapons. I'll offer them that advice and experince at a cost.
You don't have to have your weapon sliced, you don't have to have it at 100% customerisation (it will "jam" slower that way) Slicing has been the normal for so long people expect no risk for an ILLEGAL modifcation to their gun. Well here's the first step in risk vs reward. Hopefully MORE will be added.
And those talking about repeat business and less business since no one will want a weapon sliced. Well newsflah, I've slice about 10 things since the CURB came out. If I relied on slicing for my money I'd be screwed.
