I can't believe you people don't get it. JTL is going to have nothing to with smugglers when it is launched. Haven't you been reading the press releases and viewing the footage? This is a twitch-based space fighter for everyone. The only real profession mod is the addition of the shipwright prof, which will be a new artisan-based prof. At best, they *might* have some plan down the road to do something with smugglers in space, but if you are hoping for some smuggler content in JTL you're going to be dissappointed.

Any question about JTL is going to be met with an answer that will read so close to HOTDOG's that TH might as well copy and paste it. You should also realize that they are not doing any real work on the smuggler revamp at this time, they are coding the jedi-revamp, then the holocron revamp, then the GCW revamp, the JTL and *then* the smuggler revamp. Any question about our revamp will be wasted, IMO.

I don't know, does anyone believe that ANY question we ask (revamp, JTL, spice downer, slicing, skill documentation, etc), ANY question at all won't be met with something like:

"We have a number of plans we would like to implement for (insert profession). We can't be specific as the plans are still coming together but we hope to (insert fancy double-speak answer) as major tool in (insert discussed topic). Nothing is set in stone at the moment.
-TH"

Yes, I do believe that there are questions that will receive direct answers, and there have already been some given. For example, the question was asked to verify if ratings on crafting tools and stations do actually factor into crafting, and the answer given was "yes". A question was asked regarding BE pet assembly levels, and if there were formulas, how do they work, etc; the answer given was that is was a complex formula that was intended to be somewhat random, to replicate the uncertain nature of gentic engineering.

These are direct answers to direct questions regarding how the game code works today. It is my opinion that we (smugglers) are best served by asking a question that addresses something along these lines, not some nebulous future idea, and certainly not a question that we know won't get answered, just so we can reply with, "I told you so.", but that's just me.

Heya Caylin - thought I would chime in with my opinion on this.

Ask what you feel is best to ask. At this point, given the track record and the way things have been handled thus far, I have no faith in anyone giving us anything useful or meaningful. Ask about JTL, or about the spice HAM issue, or about the lack of anything for us in patch 9...hell, even ask about the weather for next week, at least they have a chance of getting us something useful there.

As Dreven pointed out had pointed out in his post letting us know about his cancelling, it's the same old pattern - we wait for our revamp, something bad happens, we get cranky, a red name appears to calm the waters, and then we wait again for our revampuntil something bad happens, we get cranky, a red name appears....I bought into it in the past, I'm not buying it now. I need to see results before anything TH says carries any weight with me.

I have a lot of friends here and am really involved with the PA I am guild leader of - and I haven't really used my smuggling skills much other than my pistol specials. If it weren't for that fact, and the special lady and best friendI spend all my time with online, I would most likely be looking to move on to something else. So I continue toask why Ihold onto the MS title if we constantly get no attention when we were promised it back when the game was launched. It will be a YEAR soon. One full year. And what have we seen? Nothing. Not one thing. They've fixed a few bugs, but they have taken away more than they've given. I don't need to go down the list again, since it's been talked to death already.

You would think that we would get something in this patch, too - with the patience we've shown, the support we gave to TH and the others after they announced our revamp was delayed (oh, big surprise there), that they would turn around and add some documentation to the boxes, to at least bring us up to the level of what we can actually do in game. But they couldn't even do that. We're not worth showing appreciation for our continued patience and support, apparently.

And while I am on a soapbox - if you really want a glimpse into how the developers really feel about us, then just take a long look at the silence behind the reason for the spices HAM change. We've asked and asked and asked and, yes you guessed it, asked some more - but they won't tell us the reason why something that is fundamental to an entire line, that is already suffering because another profession was revamped, was damaged even more. In fact, they told our corresponent the reason, and then silenced him on the subject. Which leaves me wondering just what the motives are. Why silence him? Why is that informationnot getting out so bloody important? Is it something so bad that it might cost them more customers? Or does it make sense in some fashion? But when I think about it, silencing Caylin seems rather sinister in my book.

We've seen a number of well respected names leave this forum, this game, in order to get to greener pastures. Now - in my mind, that's not a good sign. When die hards like Dreven, EN, and SOLO4114 throw in the towel because they have lost faith after all this time, it's a sure sign that something is seriously wrong. These guys are fighters, folks. For them to get to the point ofthrowing up their hands in disgust is something to think about. I doubt that, had I been here since Beta like they have, I would have made it to this point. I probably would have gone on long ago. And I fear that we'll be losing others soon, and that this idiocy will cost us the best correspondant I have seen in the smuggler forum.

So to get back to your question, Caylin - I don't think it matters what we ask. We don't get any answers worth the time it takes to type in the question, and I doubt we're about to start getting them now. Maybe the best thing to do is - not submit anything at all. Just let our silence speak for itself. We've been communicating with them long enough. We need to shut it down on our end, because all we're doing is needlessly getting hopes up time after time, and then being disappointed.

Its time for them to show us that they are sincere.

/sigh...

I'm really not trying to be antagonistic with you all, my fellow rogues, but I do feel the need to make these observations:

The point of this thread was to come up a question that Caylin can send on to TH to get answered next week.

It appears that the question most of you want answered is really "What new stuff are we smugglers getting, and when?."

As I (and others) posted earlier, I think we all know how that question will get answered: "You're on board for a revamp in Pub 11. We're not ready to talk about that yet." Even those proposing that the question take this form are pessimistically noting that there will be no satisfying answer forthcoming.

This has led to an inevitable spiral into complaining about how we haven't gotten our revmp yet, and that the Devs haven't told us diddley about it.

It is a sad statement about our profession that the opportunity for a morsel of information from TH can send the community into such a state.

Let's take a step back and see this for what it is: TH will attempt to answer 1 question about our profession. Why not make it something useful?

I want to narrow it down to three choices. My picks are...

  1. JTL/Revamp Question - Has a low chance of getting answered, but it makes our job at integrating our revamp and JTL seamlessly with little back tracking or adjustment. Very important in my opinion yet probably going to be brushed aside because we all know that the developers can be... well you know.

  2. Spice Downer Question - I know the answer, but you all deserve to know as well. Good chance of getting answered.

  3. How far can we go with our revamp Question - In short, how much will they let us do to our skill tree. Are we going to be allowed that promised ground-up revamp? Or are they going to insist on only'enhancing the skill onion.' This is also an important question in regards to our revamp, I don't know though if it would be answered adequatly.

The documentation just needs to be done, no question needed... and slicing tool qualitydoesn't matter, we've proved that ourselves.

I appreciate the re-railment, but here's my stance Sun-Tzu:

Outside of anything having to do with the smuggler revamp TH has shown that this is a mostly worthless exercise. This week he did a nice word substitution swapping Combat Balnce out with JTL, but I really have no confidence that we can get a morsel of info out of him through this method.

Because of his past answers I really don't like the JTL question or the revamp questions - they just wont get answered. Caylin did a great job trying to move the question awayy from what is in JTL, but the effort will be lost when its answered with a "wait".

I want an official announcement on spices - from the devs and not though Caylin. Too late to disseminate info on this one. Going with a spice question is ok with me.

It would be nice to press the devs on pre-revamp fixes, because they should have thrown us more then a buff icon change with this patch, but 19 questions probably isn't the forum for that.

There are plenty of things that would make good questions even if we basically know it already. Instead of using this question to try and get info out of them on somethign they're planning we can use it to bring something to their attention that needs fixing, or just rumors that need to be squashed once and for all. Magseals, master slicing vs. slice 4, slice tool experimentation or decay, first timers missing the point of clamps, all - to me - would be more then worthy questions to bring up to TH because if he choses to answer one of them it would go pretty far in both clarifying the issue and giving us an official source that people might see, but also in letting the staff know that there are non-revamp issues that we deal with that need fixing along with the much bigger revamp issues.

But in the end, I'm really not too attached to any set of questions at all, I'm just not convinced its worth all this time we seem to be spending on the exercise every other week.

Definately question #1. Caylin knows the answer to #2 already so I would hope we will get the answer outside of 19 Q's sometime in the near future. #3 probably has a greater chance of an "I dont know yet, we'll see when we get closer" type answer than #1.

Also for #3 I have a feeling it would be a "We are closely examining all options at this point, the smugglers are an integral part of the SWG community and we want their revamp to adequetly show that" sort of answer.

If you already know the answers to 2, that's good enough for me. I'd prefer a question that will do us a little bit of good. I'm getting frustrated with answers like "After JTL" and "Not yet, but it's a good idea"

What do you all want for your question?

Whyis Smuggler the only profession that has to buy an expansion to get their content/revamp?

Ok, I think it's obvious that a lot of us don't want a JTL question. If they did give us an answer we wanted, it would have the "subject to change" or "nothing is set in stone" statements attached. I remember reading about smugglers long before the game came out and the devs mentioned a "fast talk" skill that would allow smugglers to talk their way out of sticky situations. Whatever happened to that? Same thing that will happen to any JTL answer they give us, nothing. If they do answer a JTL question we all know it will be either something that is common sense or a vague "smugglers will be a viable profession once JTL launches, but it's too early to give any specific details".

As for the spice downer thing, it seems that after every publish some players experience some sort of downer bug. There has been downer bugs of incaps, stats not returning to normal status, the white bar thing, and probably countless others. ATM spice is not in demand and I have a sick feeling it never really will be something that you'll find in a lot of players inventories. I think asking about the downer bug of the month will be a waste of a question, but that's just my opinion.

I think the question should either be about some sort of SMUGGLING FOR OTHER PLAYERS(there has been a lot of ideas thrown around and I don't think the devs have looked at all, or even a lot of them), the possibility of REMOVING CONTRABAND FROM THE BAZAAR/VENDORS, or BOUNTIES ON SMUGGLERS, which ties into smuggling for other players and the bazaar/vendor questions really. Perhaps the question should be about ILLEGAL GOODS like specific resources, Krayt weapon components, etc having heavier than normal penalties. That would sort of answer or give an indication as to what they thinkaboutthe bazaar/vendor, bounty, and player smuggling issues. Sorry about the caps, but I wanted to highlight those issues and I don't know how to do the fancy pants coloring stuff

Can questions 1 and 3 not be be combined? They are both asking about how far the smuggler revamp will go, its just that question 1 makes it SE specific.
