Thread: Guys. KEEP UP THE PRICES FOR A SLICE!!

The DOC's are starting to raise their prices, why shouldn't we charge for our skillzzzzz?
The Docs can guarantee their results. When I pay a doctor 10k for a set of buffs, he can tell me how large the buff will be and how long it will last before he applies it.
A Smuggler expects the same amount and he can't even tell me what type of slice it will be, let alone the amount?
Sorry, but I invest a considerable amount of money into my equipment and when I get it sliced I'm doing so to improve the weapon or armor. I don't need an encumbrance slice on my lightweight comp and I don't need a speed slice on my pistols, thank you. If you deliver what I need (especially if the bonus is high) I tip generously. If you can't, you get the base rate. If that base rate is exorbitant, I get a friend or guildie to do it for me for freeand you make nothing.
I agree that slicers can certainly justify charging more than the old "100 cr per %" standard, but if you want to charge a large flat rate for a slice, you'd better be able to consistently deliver results. Since slicing is totally random, you can't.
Remember that your customers will expect to get what they pay for.

A flat rate of 5-10K per item does hurt the poorest and newest players, the ones who will bring you a single DH-17 that may have cost them less than the slice itself, and that bothers me enough that I often give reduced or free slices to anyone that's obviously going to worry about paying 6K for a slice. On the other hand, their business is a fraction of the slicing I do, most of which consists of 5-15 weapons at a time or a full suit of composite that set them back 200-500K and for whom my prices aren't going to warrant a blink.
This is exactly where I try to keep my rate: at a level low enough that the bulk of my customers don't have to think twice about it, but high enough that I don't feel I'm wasting my time sitting around Coronet rather than running missions on Dant. Unfortunately, I've spent the last couple days slicing to gauge my rates, and even a steady stream of business doesn't keep up with the money I'd pull in blasting Jantas--which makes me think my fee of 5K is a little low, and that perhaps, given that I'm improving their items permanently, I should bump it up to 8 or even 10K. If people aren't willing to pay it, they can find a smuggler willing to spend his time that way while I race around Dantooine.
Still, I've got the suspicion that slice inflation hasn't yet reached a level where the general populace resents us. I try to temper my greed--oh lord, how I do try--but if I can't slice for cash at the same rate I can make it running missions, my alternatives are to raise my rates or give it up. And for the time being, I'm not going to give up the one thing I can do as a smuggler.
This should have been obvious to me, as I mostly charge my customers not for the materials I use with a slice, but for the time it takes out of my couple hours online, and in retrospect, I'm sure almost everyone weighs their purchases in the same way. If there are a couple masters slicing in the same area, the guy who's charging 4K to your 8 is going to get most of the business. But if you're the only one in town, or if the other guy's got a line, I think most players out there would rather spend a few extra credits than a few extra minutes.
I continue in my efforts for the 2,000,000 credit slice. I will travel anywhere in the galaxy to perform this service.
Get what you can... we're not Jedi....
Cheers.

I charge 7k /slice, no matter what % i get!!!
STOP with those 1k, 2k under 20% free slices!!!!!
BE PROUD to be a smuggler
CHARGE atleast 7k/slice
SMUGGLERS earn more respect then getting 3k for a slice... people will always ask for a slice even if they are 3k or 10k, same goes for master doctors, they've been smart to raise their prices, we should to
imo
I charge a flat fee, regardless of percent slice.
5k per slice
Additionally
+5k if in a guild I dont like
+10k if you have a name I dont like
+25k if you are a rebel
+50k if the person is a jedi or has a jedi that I am aware of outside of my guild.
------
So potentially I could get 95k for a single slice heh.
