Oh I get it alright. I understand the thing about time wasted in a Starport missing shuttles because i'm slicing. I understand why most people charge 10k a slice is mostly because of time "wasted." But if you don't want to miss the shuttle then just say you're not slicing at the moment. Or take your Master Smuggler tag off. Simple as that. Greed is also part of this. Personally I dont' care what people charge. But what I can't stand is when someone comes on teh boards here and starts a thread(just like this one) and says that smugglers HAVE to charge 7k or more. That's bullsh$t. I will charge what I want.

Yes its a matter of greed

Greedy individuals who think they shouldn't have to pay the Entertainer for theirs

Greedy individuals who think they shouldn't have to pay medics and doctorsfor theirs

Greedy individuals who think they should't have to pay smugglers for theirs.

Oh, I forgot... there are no entertaines in the cantinas and medics in the med centers because they had to earn their money through other sources of income....

So then the entertainers are getting paid for the time they "waste" giving you a mind buff? Tell me then. Why are 90% of the entertainers who mind buff AFK? That's not wasting time. Cause there not even there. So why should I tip an AFK mind buffer who uses absolutely no resources? The only mind buffers I tip are the ones who are actually there, "wasting" there time mind buffing me. But I don't have to do that much either because most of the time I get my mind buffs from guildies and friends.

Andsince some people have said that when they slice they are "wasting time," (I say some because I know a lot of people Like to slice) thenwhy slice? Why waste that time?

You should charge whatever makes you comfortable. There is plenty of slicing to go around and there will continue to be plenty of slicing. There is no such thing as undercutting or overcharging in the slicing market. At the end of the day, if you are happy with your profit margin and your customer believes the value received was worth the credits paid, then I would say it was a good day.

Price fixing in this environment won't work and isn't needed. There is no right or wrong way to determine what price to charge other than what will make you and your customers comfortable. By a lot of the reasoning on this board, I need to raise my prices on my tools vendor. A person that buys all of their tools from me will spend 420 cr a slice. It would seem that by using a lot of the arguments in this thread, if people can make 7K a slice (6480 cr profit) from my tools, I need to raise my prices. After all, I'm spending skillpoints for merchant, empty lots, time for harvester runs and survey, and time for the factory runs. And my customer is making 1500% profit off my stuff.

Please don't Draevyn, I just made a huge purchase the other day, and have a little wookie to feed and shelter.

Seriously tho, when I'm playing it's all about having a good time. Worrying about whether or not the next person I slice anything for is going to get pissed at the slice, or at what I charge, just isn't an option for me. If they don't like the slice or the price, they will either get over it or find another smuggler. Yeah, it upsets me somewhat, but since I don't know if they just got done with a base raid that went sour, or their girlfriend/boyfriend in RL just dumped them, I can't really take it personally. Besides, if they don't like it, they shouldn't come back for more...should they??

I won't set a price, until I can offer better slices. I'm only slicing 3 (1/2 way to 4) and I know there are better slicers than me on the server (based on the profession, nothing more). So, if someone asks me if I can slice a weapon, I tell them sure, but that I'm not master smuggler and that I can't get the best slices yet. Some people don't mind that and pay me fairly well (best I've had was 10k for 2 FWG5 slices and that to me is good for slicing 3), others say no thanks and move along. That suits me just fine.

Just my 2 cents.

charge what you freaking feel like, there are not a million holo whore smugglers around anymore, im often the only smuggler in corolag or theed, i can name 2 or 3 other masters on my server. I charge what i feel like then and there, if im in a rotten mood it might be 10k, if im in a good mood it might be 4. And if i get a peticulary annoying customer i just refer them to Phoenix lol.

This is not an issue that needs to have a new post every week il agree on that one, i dont consider slicing a major source of income, FP sales are alot my lucrative, janta/mokk missions, Killing NS there are alot more ways ot get cash in SWG than slicing, if you want a prof where you can charge what you want and rip people wallets out through theire bowels go WS, AS or Doc

I've been charging 5k per slice since 2003 but over the past couple of months i've become fedup with slicing. I've upped my prices to 10k per slice because that's the only rate that would be worth my time. It's not greed. It's simply making my slicing time worth it to me. If you don't like it, then go to someone else. It's that simple.

Personally, I don't even care if I make a profit slicing, as long as I break even with the cost of material. Unless I charge some ridiculous price, I can make far more money murdering jantas, mokks, or rancors. Heck, they even give loot every so often.

Maybe if slicing results weren't entirely random and/or the process was more interesting and varied than clamping and cutting 2 wires, I could understand charging more. I'll pay 10k-30k for a doc buff because I know exactly what I'll get. There is no way I'm going to ask a player for money after I've just gotten unluckywith some 15% slice.

Exactly...When I started smuggler I saw on the bazaar crates of laser knives for 6k, but they just take 16 metal per, so I decided to make a factory run with 5k steel or whatever and now I have a bag full of crates of 25 knives...NOVICE weaponsmiths and armorsmiths can make WUKS and AUKS, only thing that's 'costly' to make is clamps, but even those are easy. I don't get why most smugglers in this thread are so greedy, if slicing is so 'not worth your time' and 'below you', why'd any of you bother to become smugglers anyway?

Slicing isn't below me, in fact I do enjoy slicing. I don't however like having to slice so many weapons/armor at a time. So instead I charge more and slice less.

"So then the entertainers are getting paid for the time they "waste" giving you a mind buff?" & "So why should I tip an AFK mind buffer who uses absolutely no resources?"
First off, I never said "waste of time". Secondly,I don't tip AFK entertainers either since the service of entertainment was never rendered, the effort required was minimal andtheir expenses none. Entertainers who are at the keyboard and at least offer a smile and polite conversation? Yes. They should be compensated for the time they take to provide you withthe service offered by their profession and the level at which they offered it.

"Tell me then. Why are 90% of the entertainers who mind buff AFK?"
Poor game design.

"thenwhy slice? Why waste that time?"
I don't see any AFK slicers. It is a time consuming process so I will demand compensation for my time. Since I take into considerationthat it is a time consuming process when I set my price, it is not a "waste of time" for me. Far from it.
