Here's another "hypothetical" situation. Our smuggler, has ended up in the midst of a galactic civil war, on a huge Imperial space station. He, feeling pretty cocky, decides to use his previous experience with a rifle, and charges headlong down a corridor, rifle blazing. He encounters a squad of soldiers, and runs like hell. Reality had suddenly grounded him, he's not some crazy soldier type, he's a smuggler, what the hell is he doing running down a hallway shooting off a rifle?
Actually i believe that was a carbine
BUT, the carbine he was carrying was not his personal weapon. It is the weapon he looted off of the Stormtrooper whose armor he stole...and the standard issue weapon of Stormtroopers. If he'd have decided to carry his trusty DH, he would have attracted undue attention. In that particular situation, the choice of a carbine as a weapon had more to do with having a convincing disguise than having the appropriate "all-around" weapon for a smuggler.
True I was just being funny and correcting him. Also the incident he was refering to , "Han" wasnt dressed as a stormtrooper, but was still using the carbine.

Gotcha...but my explanation still holds as to why he had the carbine in the first place, even if he had already ditched the cumbersome ST armor

And my true and final answer on "Why Pistols?"
Because Our profession is based on the Rogue, which in any RPG, uses a small weapon that, given the right circumstances and wielded properly by a rogue, inflicts great damage. But if you don't kill it with that first stab/shot, you'd best have a buddy with you...
That's Smuggler. We're not warriors, our gun is meant to be escape from a situation, not rush headlong into.
Here's a "hypothetical" scenario. A Smuggler, who we'll call Han, walks into a bar. He sees a bounty hunter, who we'll call Greedo, sitting there. He talks to Greedo, who informs him he's here to take him in to collect a bounty, Han, quietly unsnaps his holster, and without warning, gives a powerful shot to Greedo's chest, killing him instantly. If Han had missed, he would have had to run like hell. But he didn't miss, he's at close range, with his trusty pistol.
You pretty much summed up much of my argument right there.
Since when is the Fist, more powerful then the Gun? Where is our single target, "Fatal Shot" special? One shot...
Slight impersonation for ya.
*waves hands like birds wings* "Caw! Caw! BANG!! F***! I'm Dead!"
But for us, with Pistols... it takes how many shots to bring the monster down, while the TKM friend in our group does it in half the amount of time, and takes all the Exp. I brought this up in another thread under the Group and Player Associations forum. I came to this game to join some friends, I came thinking I would be able to do things with them, group with them and hunt with them.
This is not so, since one of them is a TKM... and takes all the Exp away from everyone else with her damage output... Most of my missions she accompanies me with, she can take down my targets in a matter of seconds whereas it takes me 5 minutes or more with a Pistol.
So then what is the point in doing things with friends in this situation?
Some of you have been using PvP in your arguments for the Unarmed and TKM/Smuggler Template. But not everyone wants PvP. I don't. At least not yet, because as a Smuggler/Pistoleer .. my accuracy sucks (75% of all shots miss) and I stand no chance against a TKM.
So then where is the all powerful, never misses.. one shot fatal shot, that Smugglers ought to be reknowned for? Of course I am not saying it should be some grand special we can use all the time. There must be some penalty to using it of course; maybe renders our weapon unusable for a period of time, maybe we overloaded it or something.
I can get that shot out of Rifles. I have a Rifleman who can take down their targets with a single shot; of course I expect that to not last as the character advances further up the Rifleman Profession and goes after bigger stuff. But still. With Pistols, in this game, as it is now... we're very underpowered.
This game is not Star Wars. It is Sony Wars... much like Everquest is often refered to as, Sonyquest.

I see this from a different point of view. Remember, this is Sony Wars and not Star Wars. So we can't take analogies from the movies to apply them to the game. Because the game simply does not agree with the Movies.
Han ran down the hall not with a Rifle, but with a Carbine... or so I thought. Thats what it looked like to me but then again it's been awhile since I watched it.
He ran down the hall and into a Squad of cardboard Storm Trooper stands ups... and didn't think... "oh hell I'm not some crazy soldier what am I doing with this rifle..."
In my opinion he thought.. "oh hell, a squad of cardboard standup Storm Troopers... there is no chance in hell I am going to take them all down with this gun, or any gun for that matter.. my accuracy will suck and I'll probably miss more then half of them!"
Now... IF, the movie had gone the way SONY seems to think it should have... Han would have then dropped his gun.. and gone Kung Fu (TKM) on that squad of cardboard Storm Troopers with his bare fists, and dropped them all dead in a matter of seconds... and they all probably would have had to have hit him several dozens of times with their guns to bring him down.
Therefore, all I have been trying to say is. If we're going to use Ranged weapons, then at least we should be able to use them to a greater extent then we are now. Our accuracy should be much better then it really is... and a TKM shouldn't be able to out damage us.
Master Marksman, though granted is not perfect, would at least give us more Accuracy bonuses.
Who uses Ranged Support? I believe Han has. Maybe I am off on this but wasn't there a scene where he was "diving" to the ground while taking a shot? Ok there was the scene where he was "shooting" while "diving" into the garbage shoot in the detention level on the original Death Star, but maybe that doesn't count as he had stopped shooting by the time to took his dive.
But then again, as I said.
We're not playing Star Wars.
Oh and I apologize for singling you out to quote from Maxtheusher, I read all of the posts and I appreciate everyones honesty regarding how they feel about the Unarmed and TKM... and I don't mean to come across as sounding insulting to those in the Smuggler Community who mostly use the infamous Triple Template; as Cloudchasing stated on page one...
I just think its an overpowered way to go, where the fist is more powerful then the gun. And no I have no intention of trying to "force" Sony to change the Pre-Reg's... also as Cloudchasing insinuated, in an effort to make the proffession fit to my desire.
All I have been trying to say is that, I have felt that Marksman would have been a better second for Smuggler, then Unarmed... in my opinion it just seemed to fit with the idea of being a Smuggler. Wasn't Han also a Marksman afterall? I believe I have also read some of the stories (books) about him which depict him as being very skilled with most guns and knowing how to use them.
The movies, remember... are only just a depiction of a few hours, or maybe just a couple days, out of the lives of these heros, and not a truly accurate way to judge their character and abilities by.
...and well; it certainly seems Sony isn't basing the game on them.
But then, maybe I am just getting all worked up over nothing... maybe the CU will bring us the ranged accuracy we deserve.

If you watch the movie again, they all pretty much suck with the E11. I think the only one with "Carbine Specialist" was Leia. Luke and Han were horrible shots with the Carbine. It's just fortunate that Stormtroopers don't have very high carbine accuracy mods either.
I think most people understand what you're trying to say. For whatever reason, as it currently stands, Melee professions seem to be better combatants than Ranged professions. There's no argument with many people. However, the entire purpose of the CURB is make most of these professions much more balanced, getting away from the all-powerful cookie cutter templates. I agree that TKM is overpowered, that Pistoleers and Carbieers are way too underpowered. But imagine, given the current game mechanices, if your suggestion were actually implimented. A Rifleman dishing out a Low Blow followed by 6x damage from Last Ditch at the speed cap? This wouldn't change the power a Carbine/Smuggler or Pistol/Smuggler would have. All you'd end up with were thousands of Rifle/Smugglers doing exactly what you hate TKMs doing. Your Pistol would still be useless, and anyone going Smuggler would then go Rifleman as well.
Again, I don't disagree with your position. This is Star Wars afterall, and I remember seeing a whole lot more green and red blaster shots ringing out then I saw swords and fists flashing in battle. Hopefully, though, the CURB addresses this inconsistency while bringing most combat professions back to a level playing field.

Just for the record.
I have never stated that ALL ranged Weapons; Rifles, Pistols, Carbines... should all use the same Specials. (ie: Rifle using Low Blow followed by Last Ditch)
I have just stated that we should get more specific Specials, just for those individual weapons, added to the Dirty Fighting skill tree.
I also think, we should have more Unarmed specials, designed just for the Dirty Fighting tree... which I haven't had a chance to address yet, and still do not have the time to go into detail on. But to sum it up quickly, when I first looked at Smuggler and saw the Dirty Fighting tree, my first impression was a dirty style of "fist" fighting... or in other words, a smuggler based extention of the Unarmed tree.. then I learned it was based on Pistols under closer examination and I was curious as to why there was nothing to add to the Unarmed.

as much as i hate melee, unarmed fits smuggler , but i think we should get a cantina chair cert.I can see fencer , id like to wear a sword just cause it looks cool , thats kind of a pirate thing. Not every smuggler would use a carbine or rifle, but id bet most would find use of a pistol all-la holdout blaster. Not to say that soem wouldnt use other weapons, which can be learned on top of smuggler.
As much as I do like the idea of a more customized smuggler, if we had that option every other profession would b!tch till you just had to pick ANY few trees to get to your elite profession.

I would like to be able to get fencer instead of TKM, forget the 'gaffi sticks and stun battons, whipping out a vibroblade or dagger if it kicks off in ashady dealfeels mich 'dirtier' to me than launching into kung foo moves
(and if your target has AP1, kinetic and stun resists the vibroblade is a good choise for a fencer)
But each to their own- if would be good if we could chose one line from marksman and one from brawler so everyone can do what they want.

once again i would have to say there isn't too much wrong with that.
If commando was master marksman + any 1 melee tree so what
If BH could choose which scout tree
This wouldn't apply to straight elites as they are very defined but the hybrids are just that
