Thread: Spice Prices
You are the best person to determine the price on the crates of spice that you are selling. Experiment and set your prices for the volume of sales (and income) that you feel comfortable with. I've seen the full range of prices.
I now only sell nuetron and muon on the Dath bazaar. Since the patch I sell crates of 5 for 6k, and if I log on enough I can sell 30-45 of those 5 unit crates a week. Over180k - 270k a week, not much but good enough for me. I sell that much even though, to my astonishment and dissapointment, people are selling crates of 25 on Dath for 6k credits.

Tell me Terao why are you so astonished and disappointed to see that people are selling below your prices and in bigger quantity?
Fact is that there are no monopolies in this game, so you have to realize that competition exist. Everybody talks about supply and demand in this game, but very few seem to realize that there are a lot more to economics than just that. The supply and demand is just a general thesis on something that goes much deeper. I for one find it astonishing that some people make huge profits on something that is so easily made as spice. You do not have to experiment with it and you can use any kind or resources you want... without thinking about quality. According to my calculations and own expenses on spice then your profits are 60 times your expenses. It's no wonder that people are not making money on spices. I base my price on my expenses and I make around 120k a day on spices... and that's without any advertisement like others do. You see Terao, economy is not just about profit or sales... it's about making an investment and getting a high return on that investment.
Do not get satonished, disappointed or flame others just becuase they see differently on economy or for that matter has a more realistic approach. There are different ways to play this game some choose to play it one way and others in another way. There is no right or wrong way to play a game.
Have fun and just play instead of complaining.

Okay, l'm not taking sides here, but I do want to point out the EXPENSES involved in keeping your Muon cost down. Sound like an oxymoron? Let's assume you make the most profit if you make your own muon. Fair? Here are the costs involved in doing that:
Need resources, soneed harvesters to get resources.
Need water vaporators, mineral harvesters, and fusion generator to get resources.
Use fusion generator to get Known Reactive to make muon AND run powrharvesters.
Need to pay maintenance on harvesters.
Need to pay maintenance on fusion generator.
Need to constantly payairfare to check harvesters, gather resources, etc. (Least I do)
OK, so now you have your resources:
Need factory to make muon.
Need to pay maintenance on factory.
Need schematic to make muon.
For large personal operation, need crafting station to make schematics.
Need more reactive to power factory.
Well it seems that somehow my answer has been lost. Yesterday I wrote a long reply to you on this issue. Honestly I really do not want to write this answer again.
I might have been a bit hasty when I said that with a price of 15k a crate of 25 you make 60 times your expenses. I made an estimate on my expenses and it was a bit off. However I will keep to my initial statement that there are no serious costs involved in making spices. For the prices most smugglers keep then I could buy a piece of armor for the price of one crate of moun.
Anyway I am well aware of the direct and indirect costs that are involved in making spices. I do know that you need power and maintenance in the process. However theexpenses are far from 2-4k for the production of spice. If you calculate travel expenses then you would still not have those expenses. Besides the only time you might get hidden costs in the production of spices is if you get caught by the impire or you get a critical failure on your schematic. I could give you all the calculations on my costs, but I do not want to do so. However I do want to tell you that including power for harvesters, my most expensive resource used for spice is at 0,28 per unit. So yes Wayne you can assume that making your own spice grants the most profits, sinceI haven't seen anybody selling resources at that price.
For some reason most people are angry because I sell at a lower price. I understand that it might cost you all profits, but this is the price you pay for competition. I know most smugglers only looks at profits and therefore they charge high prices. However I see differently on things. When I started to make spice I made some investments (this is what you call costs that are up front and subsides, WayneInAustin) that I want to make a return on. Basically I sell my spices at a price that'll see me get the highest return on that investment, while most others sell their spices just to make profits. I could give you a long explanation why it's so important to me to get a high return on that investment, but I guess that most of you do not care since I seem to get flamed for my style of play.
Now since everybody is so angryover a bit of competition then I would happily comply to your prices if any of you can give me just one good reason to why I should charge the same as you for a crate of moun. Untill then I'll keep my initial prices as this is the prices that so far have given me the highest return in my investments.
It's a hard push... the low boosts and duration compaired to that of food, plus the downers...
But for pricing, try basing it off your resource cost, plus a bit... so you can recoup your costs.
A more realistic price would probably be around 2 cpu for the resources... each use takes 30 resources, so for 10 you're looking at about 600, and that's pushing it. Most people don't find it all that useful. Heck, a full crate of 25 muon tends to go in the range of 6k, which is around 5.2 cpu.
