Thread: Squad Leader Revamp??? WT....?
Sorry, I tried to read the post in questionto see what all the fuzz was about, but I plain gave up.
On a completely unrelated note: has anyone seen Tomo recently?

It's great that squad leaders are getting some attention.
And yes what they are implementing for them is probably easier to some degree than what Smuggler's (almost said "we") have been asking for.
In all honesty however look at what's been going on here, turns out that the reason we didn't hear anything for weeks from the dev team is because most of them were busily working on the new expansion (Mustafar).
Now on one hand I can see why they are putting all this effort forth on the expansion (draw new players to the game), which is timed with the release of Ep III coming out on DVD... -BUT-
*tries to supress anger* Why can't they just do the damn revamp? Not just for Smuggler, but how about SL, Ranger, and some of the other professions. I swear I'm one of the few in the SWG community that seems to recall they hired something like 20 new developers to speed up the pace of publishes and bug fixes, etc.
I had naively and foolishly assumed that Smugglers would be much more than what they started out as. After the first time (round December 2003)I finished smuggler on my server I got a taste of how much was just completely not there, totally lacking for the profession. I wound up dropping it soon after.
Then... Then there was murmers and whispers of a revamp. So I picked it up again. Then had my hopes dashed, dropped smuggler and goofed around with other professions.
I've in total mastered smuggler 10 (yes TEN) times on my server, all of these coinciding with more promises. And wound up dropping it everytime when the bad news was passed along that smugglers were getting SQUAT.
They (the devs) said something along the lines of "we'll be fleshing out the smuggler profession, most likely with a full revamp" AT THE END OF BETA 3. This was before the game even went live. They said at that time that Smuggler wasn't finished, that it needed a lot of work.
If and when they actually do *something* with the profession, I'll probably come back, but the other two accounts I paid for, which were in essence support for my smuggler, will never be coming back. I kept them subscribed and active just for my smuggler main, but after a year I saw that it was pointless. There wasn't going to be a revamp, it would be pushed off indefinetly, and there was no reason to continue paying that extra money.
Smuggler in it's current form is okay, and there's some things that are mildly fun about it, but when I read the posts by various devs like GreenMarine about what smuggler *could* be, it saddens me that smugglers have been stuck in this sad state of affairs for years now.
I have no faith left in me that there will ever be a revamp, or any serious smuggling content added in. And all I can say, is that it's truly a shame.
Squad Leaders and Rangers can still serve their functions, satisfy the archtype idea of what they are about, but overall smugglers can not.
I like the bug fixes, they've been great, and some of the other new things they've implemented have been pretty nifty as well, but I feel like they should really focus on revamping/adding things to some of these professions that seriously need it THEN do a campaign of bug fixes. Finish the game, it's still not completed from what we had in beta 3.

you know, TajJunak, i agree with your feelings on this, but i disagree with your methods of showing concern. i am as frustrated as you are. in fact i have ranted and growled on here just like you. but you must understand that the devs are going to do what the devs are going to do. we should always be putting up our suggestions and ideas. we should always be pushing the devs. we should always be happy when part of this game is getting fixed because that means it is one step closer to a revamp for any professions that need it. and you know what. i know that smuggler could be much better. i want it to be cool. i want to feel like i am han solo running aroundthe deathstar, or dodging asteroids, but honestly this game will never be all that i want it to be.
i think a lot of the smugglers are the first to realize this is just a game. we have been so concerned in the past and so vocal, but now we realize that we enjoy the game as much as we can and wait for the revamp that the devs want and we will either live with it or move on to another game that we like more. it is not that we are lazy, or dont care. it is a fact that this is SOE's game and they will do what they please and we as the consumer have one of 2 choices we can take. quit or wait till it becomes more to our liking.
i think TajJunak you should either be more constructive and happy that things are getting fixed, or seriously think about whether you want to continue playing or find another game that suits you better. i would hate to see you leave, but really think about what you want from this game, something that exactly fits your "vision" of Star Wars and only that, or are you going to be content playing a game that the devs create for you? there is nothing you can do to stop the devs from making thier "vision" of the game. yes you should put out your ideas, what if one of them is doable? then your vision becomes thier vision. but regardless you will have to play thier game whichever way they make it.
the biggest question is, will you play thier game and continuously pay money for it?
i have had to ask myself this question quite a bit lately. the answer...
i have some good friends from real life that play and we play together a lot. so until they arent around anymore, till they quit, i will play. or until the devs so break the game as it isnt playable or until my wife says we cant afford it anymore. ![]()

Oh crap, more Dev attention? Assume the position, folks. Hope your ankles are strong and you brought plenty of lube.
