Thread: Anyone else think the TEF/BASE changes spell the end of smuggler.

Well I think it will expand content more than limit it. All they've done is streamlined the rules and made them hard and fast. No loopholes, no confusion, no exceptions. PvP, PvE, Civilian.

Quite possibly, yes. When it's the neutral Smugglers that should have the best chance.

I understand, and to some extent agree with that aspect of the changes. The problem still lies in the fact that if/when they implement other factions (like ones we can smuggle for) then it's gonna a bonafide option. Right now, as the game is and will be when these changes come about, it's going to hurt a lot of people. This is an attempt to shut the whiners up, plain and simple (which is also a reason that I fear this change and the trend it may set). I like what they're doing, but it's easy to see that there are ways to make it better for everyone.

At this point, if they were to implement smuggling, I can only see decent smuggling content for Rebels since they're the only ones who are gonna be chased by the Empire.

Always remember that Han was in trouble with Jabba because he was boarded by Imperials... BEFORE he even associated with the Alliance (the whole Bria Therin thing didn't count). It seems they ignore the details in favor of the whiners.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Zane, I know, and I agree. We'll just have to see if it's worth it, or if it is ever rectified by the Revamp or a possible Crime expansion.

I cannot conceive of anyone not running a pitched battle with some semblance of strategy. The problem is if pvp disabled cloneing happens is the following.

A group of twenty overt rebels storms into theed on speeders, and since they have numbers they waste the few overt imps in town. There the strategy is over a counterattack is near impossible. Total victory is ensured by total surprise. Not anything terribly strategic about that. The imps cannot do kamikazee raids to push the rebels out, or even amass a force in anything resembling a realistic amount of time. Hmm, such a situation is indeed possible. but here's the deal, if it only takes 5 mins to go back to pvp-enabled, that is not an unrealistic amount of time. it takes that long to assemble your force and get buffed anyways, if not longer, in the current system as well. Now, I'm not sure on that timer, so this is just speculation.

In pitched battles the invaders does actually have to think 40 or 50 minutes down the road. They will need to heal team mates set up surveilance, and set out plans of attack. To keep the territory as clear of other players as possible. In a nutshell if the battle is longer by default there is alot more strategy involved. /agree

Its not like a surprise gank squad is all that strategic. You keep your mouth shut and you show up at a place and gank any overt you see. Also true, I guess I just like to think that most people would treat PvP as a fun event, instead of ganking/griefing anyone they see. But I know that unfortunately that is not the case, and there are certain groups of PvP'ers whose play style is nothing but griefing, we have a whole guild that tends to operate that way on our server. However as I said, an overt who is alone and unbuffed in a public place easily accessible to gank squads is asking for it anyways. And as I noted above, tho number of teammates is an important factor, it is not always the deciding one.

There is also the issue that a players recruiter is in their base, and if they are pvp disabled they cannot go into the base ergo. You just watch helplessly as the enemy destroys your base. I can think of nothing more horrendous then that. Five or six defenders getting gang banged, and haveing to watch helplessly as the enemy takes their time in destroying the base.

You don't need a recruiter to go back to PvP Enabled status. You can just attempt to attack any PvP Enabled enemy. You'll still have to wait out the timer, but you don't need a recruiter.

And when will this expansion come out? My point is thattheir is a viable addition to their plans that are supposedly still in development, and to write off a whole section of the player base is just plain wrong. I finally got some answer from Tyrant in one of his threads, and posted the response in another one here. Basicly, if you're neutral, tough.

PS- I know I'm being pessimistic about things. At first it was cautious pessimism. With his comments, it's become outright pessimism, and for me it tarnishes all the good things that have come out this week. I said it before. If they will let whiners cause them to write off an entire group of players, then the changes needed to make meaningful smuggling and items truly illegal will never happen, and we will never see anything more than a lame mini game as we continue to be the slice whores of the operational professions.

Exactly. Not only is there a clear line between everything, the transitions between each are smooth and simple.

As far as smuggling goes: factioned crafters are going ot need to pass through imp/reb controlled areas to get resources and/or sell goods. Opposite factioned NPCs will shoot them on site. How do they avoid this you might ask? Well to me it sounds like exactly what we're in teh game for.

Mmmm I think I read that the numbers of factionned NPCs in towns and stuff will vary based on the planet control.

If this is right, in a very Rebel controled planet, things could go rough for Imps instead. hehehe

But yes, for us, giving us a group mask faction skill would in one move suddenly give us a viable smuggling option. That would be great!

I guess I don't see how this "spells the end of smuggler".

First, off not ALL of us so-called smugglers trade fp. I personally consider it almost as demeaning as crafting Froggie Bowls and non-functional gaming tables.

Second, NONE of us so-called smugglersactuall smuggle. Don't you think THAT is a bigger impediment to the profession than any dent in fp trading?

It sure won't spell the end of ME as a smuggler. On the other hand Sony's continued resistance to actually letting us smuggle WILL certainly spell the end of me as a smuggler...more so,as a customer.

Or am I just confused and you are NOT talking about the easy farming of fp? *shrugs* Either way, I don't see how any of this affects smugglers once we actually get to do what our namesake implies...SMUGGLE. Until then our whole profession has not even started so it can't really "end".

No,I dont think that this "spells the end of the Smuggler". But whiners do...Ana-mo-cara,you seem to have alot of ideas, and like to post them...But if you press The "Launch" button you will actually go into game! Never whine over something unless you have tested it. Oh,and dont whine, come with ideas to change whats bad instead of "Oh this game where so much better before that and that and the devs hate us and they will destroy the game if I dont post a billion posts about it and jokes about slicing"

You dont like what I post?
There is nothing I can care less about than that.

Right.

If they give smuggler's the ability to /mask faction or /mask faction group then suddenly we are back in business.

Life is about to become HARDCORE for the rebels and we could easily be smuggling people from one place to another with just those two abilities added.

As far as FP goes. With these changes the GCW is going to light up. People are going to need FP to buy armor, bases, and ALL that new stuff that is coming out. AND this is just a few changes that are being pushed BEFORE the CURB and GCW revamp.

There is a method to the madness I think.

I'm willing to give it all a shot.

Hell, it beats running a solo group everytime you log on.
