Loved it, for so many reasons. I suspect that it's actually turned the originals on their heads for me... Ariko and I watched ANH when we got home, and so much felt different... ESPECIALLY Obi-Wan's appearance in ANH. Suddenly, him beckoning at R2 and saying "Hello there." *beep beep* "Come here, my little friend. Don't be afraid." takes on volumes of meaning it never had before... and suddenly, Ben "happening" upon Luke just in the nick of time, so to speak, seems a lot less random... Obi-Wan and Vader's fight on the Death Star... Liea's "Help me" speech... Owen and Beru's scenes with Luke... Yoda's conversations with Luke... Ben's sensing the destruction of Alderaan... everything's a little different now.
I was surprised... I think we all had some ideas of how the Jedi were going to fall, but I don't think any of my scenarios we so... brutal. Anakin's part in it was way beyond anything I'd ever expected, and Hayden portrayed the fall many times better than I'd thought possible. In this one, Anakin is LIKEABLE, and I only wish it had come sooner-- but his likeability in this one just made the fall even rougher.
Lucas seems to have regained the ability to write and direct more subtle humor than 1 or 2 had... I suspect the fact the story is very dark helped there. whatever, it was nice, and I couldn't tell the difference between the scenes he directed and the handful that he invited Speilberg to take charge of when Steven turned up not-busy(read about that in an interview). Lots of detail in performances, writing, and direction... it was very nice. Ian and Hayden seemed to understand something about how a Sith is meant to fight, and I felt it showed in the performances... Palpatine in particular seemed to consciously hone his hatred into a razored edge while fighting.
i developed affection for things I didn't like before, or didn't like as much... I kind of hated the new Jedi fighter, until I saw ILM animate it, and until I found out it wsn't just Anakin's Vader-ship. Obi-Wan also using one gave it a different feel entirely. I didn't like the Varactyl til I got mine in game... but I didn't LOVE the thing until I saw it move on the screen with its full personality.
I didn't mind Kashyyyk not being what I expected-- EU is NOT canon, and I accepted that years ago. Similarly, Chewie being where he "shouldn't" be... the movies define what should and shouldn't. it's always been that way, and I'm now accustomed to it. The nature of the Clone Wars was a surprise in Ep. 2-- my understanding of what the wars were like was based on Timothy Zahn's novels, which... suggest a different chain of events than the movies do, at least to me.
As for Han and Chewie, for instance... i didn't miss it. It would have been out of place and awkward and severely hampered the movie's flow. I suspect that will be covered in the TV series Lucas has planned, which I believe is planned to cover the time between RotS and ANH. I figure it'll cover many of the things i wanted to see and didn't get to this time. Han and Chewie... Lando.. the Falcon... Fett... a young redheaded girl, quietly standing behind the Emperor at a state dinner, perhaps. the formation of the Alliance. And so on. Mon Mothma wasn't in this one, but I've seen the actress they hve to play her in pre-ANH era over on starwars.com. That's got to come somewhere.
LOTS of details that made me really happy. It felt like they were paying attention. I like that a lot of things I was concerned about, continuity-wise, were accounted for. Like Liea remembering her mother-- AS a newborn being shown to her parent, she saw exactly what she describes. Other things, like the long-promised explanation of blue glowies. I was very happy with that. It made sense, it tied things together, it referenced Yoda's Meditation in Episode 2, which foreshadowed it. It wasn't another case of midiclorians; it was an explanation that made sense within the mythos of Star Wars without hving to do soemthing rather ridiculous. I liked that James Earl Jones did Vader's voice but delivered *Anakin*-style(not Vader-style) lines using Hayden's inflection... and I was very pleasantly surprised that it didn't feel out of place that he was doing so. I was happy to see the Tantive 4. The CG starship artist in me was pleased to see all the new ships and interesting designs on them, and elaboration on the old corvette favorite(we got to see landing gear and the docking bay, and what the thing looked like when it was still new).
Lots to like, lots to like. I'll be seeing it again on monday. The best way I can put my feelings about the movie, is that Lucas pulled out a win in the bottom of the ninth, and it feels good to have Star Wars back, and such an awesome movie to both cap the set, and to bridge the gap to ANH.

Ok, I admitt it. I didn't see it yet. Just please tell me that someone KILLS Jar-Jar. Pretty Please. Evn if he just gets eaten my a fish or something, anything as long as he gets killed I'll be happy. And yes I go out of my way to kill any Gungan I see in game.

I just saw it tonight, it was incredible. I loved the Clone Troopers slaughtering jedi masters, haha. I almost felt sorry for the big chested twi'lek jedi girl. ALMOST now.
I liked her. The rest needed to burn, though.
Actually..word has it that she didnt really die....Yes I know I know, she was shot at point blank, and then some more. Her character came up on another forum as a possible character in the upcoming television series *shrug* not sure which Jedi power allows you to absorb blaster fire...but whatever that is, she has apparently has it.
ps
I could live with the decision to bring her back

You know the thing that made ME cry?
The shot of Owen when Obi-Wan brought Luke to Beru. *flails!*
