Rebel, Faction-wise. But I'm an RPer, and Rebels are more smuggler-friendly in canon and quasi-canon than Imperials are.
In the past, Kaitlin has been both sides. She doesn't really believe either side has everything right, and in the past, she's worked for the Empire, but only because her father is an Imperial Naval Officer and she belives in him, if not the Empire. I really wish factions meant less to a smuggler(IE: faction-hopping), but i know it would get abused by people that don't even care about Smuggler.
I'm cheifly rebel because the people I play with prefer to be rebel(And I'd be unhappy if I couldn't fly an A-Wing or a Nova, as the former is my favorite starfighter, and the latter is my favorite of the MP ships). But I find it melds well with being a Smuggler. I've also gone Imperial in the past, and I've got to say.. I don't much like most Imperial players. Playing the bad guys doesn't excuse being cheap in GCW PvP. And for the love of all that's holy, if you're RPing an Imperial officer, don't expect a salute from IMPERIAL INTELLIGENCE. Imperial RPers seem to tend to have a thing for the military discipline side of things, but they really don't bother to learn anything about Imperial chain of command and branches of service. It drives me nuts. At least with Rebels, structure is canonically loose so you don't have this kind of problem. I realize the whole power structure of the Empire thing wasn't explicitly laid out in the movies, but there's a LOT of quasi-canon information out there that's really easy to find. It can't be that hard, if you really want to RP some Imperial military. But I digress. Rebel for me, out of expedience.

On the saluting thing, i only expect it if i'm showing my rank and if it doesn't come then, no biggie.
Yes, there are many assh0les in GCW PvP on both sides. Most of those are exactly the same powergamers who are currently Jedi in order to be able to be even more uber.
As for intelligence, that's a bizarre statement. Unless/until there's a game mechanic for Intelligence roleplayers, how is anyone supposed to know or even less, care? I once met someone RPing the "Queen of Naboo". She didn't get me to bow or kneel because frankly? That's called "godmoding". And so in most cases is Intelligence. My rank? Earned, not bought. I didn't just decide it would be fun to claim a whole lot of unearned authority, and that makes a big difference.

This is hands down the best forum out there. Smugglers watch each other's back, and I've learned more about this game here than anywhere else. So in the name of mindless procrastination (editing the final draft of my thesis), are you a reb or an imp? And how does your faction factor into your idea of smuggling.
Me: currently an imp Colonel. Basically you typical "crooked imp looking to use the dominance to his advantage." (Thinking of switching sides however, which will make me the "see the error in his ways, smuggler with his heart in the right place kinda guy.")
This is a bigoted poll! NEITHER
