Why not utilize the Smuggler's ability to speak with the Jawas at the Mountain Fortress as a way for lower level Smugglers to take their looted guns (you know, those really crappy ones) and ask the Jawa if there's anything of interest on them that they can salvage. For a nominal fee (500 credits or something like that,) you pay the Jawa to salvage the weapon, and then the system creates a roll to see what kind of tool/slicing item you can get from the crappy gun.

Could something like that work for low-level crafters, and also drive down the price people will want to sell those Finely Crafted Toolsets for? Also, there would be a rare chance (albeit a chance) that you'd get a T3 or T4 slicing item...that way, if a Smuggler chooses NOT to participate in the GCW, or doesn't want to (or can't) hunt high level MOBs, they don't have to.

Any thoughts on this?

Pretty cool... why not "barter" instead of "salvage"?

I'd always found it odd that the Jawa thing was basically yet another redundant junk vendor to sell to. Smugglers should have contacts to help them gather contraban, rather than *just* move junk.

A "choose your own" style barter conversation, complete with varying reactions from the Jawa would be an interesting direction to take this too... I'm reminded of CIV3 negotiations with other nations, watching them get more and more annoyed with me as I bargan outrageous demands, or friendly deals with people who like me. EDIT: Or the Fallout 2 Barter system! that had some cool potential!

Add a similar Jabba contact, and maybe even a Tusken one (sticking to the tatooine theme, and I happen to like my +5k Tusken FP) and theres a whole Smuggler mini-publish in this!

If you don't want me to "play the forums," then I suggest you make time playing the game more rewarding and less repetitive than "playing" here!
READ THIS before telling me I cannot complain about Smuggler

Yay!!!!!!

You are so dead on with your analysis, and I encourage you to keep fighting that fight, and you will have the support of a lot of us old timers here. We need to have that risk system in place to elevate us to the place we belong. Without a comprehensive risk system ,we will never truly feel like a part of any Underworld.

I do think we should keep the Tier system, it works well I think. I think for the first time they actually made the skill box steps meaningful. I know for me, as a Master, I will do very little tier 1,2, and some 3 slices. I will be referring out to those Smugglers who need the business and "experience" (even though the slicing xp is gone) I love the fact that a new Smuggler can go and do some tier 1 and 2 slices, then the customer can bring it to a master for the high end stuff.

I like the looting, but wish there were other ways to obtain them as well. I am open to crafting professions being involved as well as future Smuggling mission rewards. I am very glad that they included them in space loot, since any CL player can be an Ace out in space and be able to obtain loot that way as well.

Once the general population is more educated on the process, we will see a more involved system of preferences and cooperation with crafters who may not focus their crafting so much on speed knowing that their contracted smuggler will be able to reduce it down to cap with their slicing. Same for damage.

I do miss the randomness though. I would like to see a narrowed randomness reintroduced. Say Tier 1 is 2-4% Tier 2 is an addition 3-5% or whatever. Allow us to have a little luck involoved in more then whether we looted a component. I also wish there were more player skill involved so that one could build a reputation, outside of the one who has all the high Tier comps. I'd like there to be a way that I can be a better slicer then you, by luck and skill, and not just connections and time.

that's not a bad idea about the sanford and sons trade-in, veela.

but i don't think this "Plan B" will breathe any life into the slicing game.
in fact, there is no slicing game. a game is defined as an activity that provides entertainment or amusement.
there's hardly anything entertaining or amusing about pop-up boxes asking you what you want to slice next.

a game is what they had laid out in the In Concept thread from 5 months ago.

all "Plan B" will do is breathe life into the loot game.
looters (who already have most of the best weapons) will get more loot to enhance their weapons even further.
