I wish I had the link, but there is a post, possibly in the comunity relations and website forum, about a female player from the bay area trying to register, she was told that they are not taking females for this?!?!?!?!?

perhaps because they already had enough percentage? I was at a theatre one night and neilson group came up and wanted opinions on some stuff but wouldnt talk to me.. they only wanted to survey my wife. They said they already had enough men on their list.

So if women comprise 5% of the gaming population and they are going to survey 1500 people.. its possible that they will only question 75 females?

Good point, so then my statement should be "If you're gonna go, don't borther if you are female. caus ethey already have enough"?

I wonder how representive this survey will be. It's pretty much going to be hardcore players from Northern California. The survey could really backfire if this subset's view are different then the average subscriber. After all, the average NoCalie's political beliefs tend to be different then that of the rest of the nation, could this be the same for gameplay preferences?

Not sure, the bay area is a HUGE star trek fan base... I was surprised to hear that they were going to do star wars focus groups there.

I kinda envisioned responses to future expansions being:

Add Klingon race
reinstate the neutral zone
create the Borg faction
allow players to be female ferengi .. this only male stuff is bias'd

- It's time the devs end the bitter fighting by giving the community a Non Jedi server. We have a few servers with TINY populations that could be changed to this ruleset. I support this idea because it punishes noone. - You can support it too. Click Here!

Well the thing is, in "real life" you can LOOK at your audience and know (usually! ha!) who is male and who is female. With an online game, there is no way they could REALLY know that ratio. And SWG has a higher percentage of females than most other MMORPGs out there.

However, Eeman, you do have a point. I just wonder how they determine the male/female ratio in this game.

There is the link. And the woman who has reported this was told "This discussion group is not for women."I posted in that thread, and I would suggest that any other females who want to be heard on this do the same.

Bottom line is that if one is to be excluded because of gender, that really should have been made clear in the announcement. Perhaps Tiggs didn't know that it was set up that way; I can't imagine she would have not included that information because she had to know that womenwho might call only to be told they were not needed because of their gender would react negatively.

It would be great to hear from SOE/LucasArts on this issue because there was no explanation given to the woman who reported this other than the "discussion group is not for women."

*Certain terms and conditions: You must be between 18-28 years old. - That's the call I got today. You must not be able to remember when SW:ANH came out in theaters to be able to take part in a focus group on a video game based on SW:ANH.

I'm not discounting the opinions of the 18-28 year olds, btw - I just think it's absolutely ridiculous that they limit their focus group like that. Nearly _everyone_ I play with is above that age-range. How exactely are we being represented?

So not only are women not counted on to purchase future expansions, but neither are a great many of the people who pay for these future expansions...

Yes. I'm sick about it.

Perhaps they can't include the under 18 demographic because of legal reasons, so they're excluding the 28+ demographic to balance it out???

For an accurate survey, you'd think if 20%(or so)of the players were 28+ then they'd have 20% of the survey members over 28.

18-30 is the largest demographic in online gaming, that's why. Unfortunately, that's a little short sighted, because middle and older agedgamers enjoy MMORPGs and make up about an equal portion of the MMORPG demographic. As someone who works in marketing research, I'm somewhat shocked they aren't even attempting younger and older aged groups, but.. more power to them. (I speculate, but I believe the reason they're not is because they feel SWG is just not that popular or with enough potential to attract those kinds of gamers.)

The good news is that not all us youngin's are insane. I (being 23) much prefer the trilogy to the prequels, even though I wasn't around to attend the theatrical openings (booo). I predict they'll get a good portion of feedback both ways, from people who are pro-jedi and anti-jedi.

We had a similar discussion about this in the correspondent forum (strictly blue names however ).

While 18-30 might not be viewed as the most mature catagory, for the most part it's that demographic that were weaned on the OT (I first saw ANH when I was 5 and I havn't been quite sane the same FLAHNBIJUGADAH! since.. ahem). I do find it a bit worrying that they've limited it to males, as while I fall into the demographic they're aiming this at, I'd like to see a game world more populated by female gamers (where else are we going to get our Jan Ors, Mara Jades, Mirax Terriks and heck, our Princess Leias? ).

But anyway, as Corbin says, don't dispair in regard to whether that group is in love soley with Jedi and lightsabers, as many prefer a good blaster at their side, an Xwing or modified freighter to pilot and a musty smelling cantina filled with all kinds of scum and villany

So they're spending a lot of money to get a bunch of opinions that they are going to ignore anyway? They have tons of feedback and never even try and address it. If it wasn't so far away, I'd go just so I could try to give my 'feedback' in a constructive way, realize that I still can't smuggle, get unruly and be kicked out while the glowstickers get their 1337speak translated to the n00b devs for more jedi goodies

Absolute garbage. So if you don't reside in Cali, your opinion's worth squat.

Good to know.
