SciFi has the rights to show the EXISTING shows. Joss gave up the rights to continue the television show for 10 years to Fox in return for a 3 picture movie deal. SciFi can't make new Firefly episodes, only Fox, and since Fox makes television for total imbecieles now, I doubt they'll realize their mistake and make more. You have to think to enjoy Firefly, which wouldn't go over well with the American Idiot, Hilton S|ut Opening Her Mouth, or Hell's Kitchen crowd.
That said, Firefly was the single most brillant piece of Sci-Fi I've ever seen. I even dare say that the 14 episodes of Firefly were better written, produced and acted than all of Star Wars. It's a truely amazing show and I'm SO glad I never saw it till it was on DVD and I could watch it without commercials or other crap getting in the way. Serenity, the movie, should be amazing.
It is so nice to see that I am not the only person who hates reality TV.
If I wanted reality I wouldn't play video games.
I think reality tv is an insult to humanity. The absolute horror it fills me with is insane. To think people enjoy watching others degraded and humiliated, to such a degree and so many if them shakes my faith in my fellow man. Just to know an audience exists for this excrement is insult enough. It just boggles me. What kind of people watch this crap? Horrible.
Um, just a reminder of the depth of human depravity.......
Romans, Christians, and (being fed to the) Lions oh my
WWII and the Holocaust.
The Dark Ages
The Crusades
Jedi in SWG
The American internment camps full of Japanese-US citizens during WWII
POW camps
The Combat Upgrade
TheAtom Bomb
Michael Jackson
Pee Wee Herman
Slavery
The World Trade Center Disaster
The Homeland Security Act
Everything listed above (in no particular order and most certainly not complete) is the result of shortsighted, greedy, evil, and/or just plain stupidpeople.
Horrible is good word to use, I agree.

I have never heard of this show, but it sounds just like something I would like. I went to Amazon half way through theseposts and 1-clicked it to be here by Friday!
I made a fruitless trip to Wal Mart earlier in search of it...looks like I'll be ordering it online as well (as soon as my bank account has some money in it).
I noticed when it airs on the Sci-Fi channel in July one of the shows following it will be Battlestar Galactica. Anyone here like that show? Back when it was on TV around '79-'80 it was my favorite show of all.... me being 12 then. I bought some of the VHSepisodes a few years ago and it was merely ok as an adult, but I still have great memories of it from watching it as a kid.
The Battlestar Galactica referenced by Sci-Fi is not re-runs of what you remember. It's a whole new "original" series created by Sci-Fi. And, to be honest, I haven't really watched enough of it to develope an opinion of it one way or the other. I generally tune into Sci-Fi Fridays to catch Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, but BG just never caught my attention. I've watched a few episodes, and they were "ok" but not anything to get me too excited...
Anyway, now I can't wait for the movie to come out and I haven't even seen an episode.... I just know I will like it from what I have heard here. I still can't figure out how I never even heard of it before today in this thread?? /boggle
As many people pointed out, it wasn't very well marketed, it aired in a really crappy time slot, and when it aired, Fox screwed up the order of the episodes. So, given all of that, it pretty much stumbled out of the gate and was never given a snowball's chance in Hell by the network. (This is what I've gathered from responses in this thread, and also commentary from another friend of mine. I hadn't heard of it until about 2 weeks ago.) Apparently, in it's short-lived run, despite all of the above SNAFUs, it garnered a cult following, and really took off when the DVDs hit (probably based on Joss' success with Buffy / Angel).

Battlestar Galactica spoiler alert.
The new Battlestar Galactica is very dark. It is a much more mature show that takes up 40 years after the original. The Cylons have come back, and now they have an organic Cylon model (12 versions actually) that look like humans along with updated Cylon 'bots' and the Raiders that were the snub fighters from the original are now seperate entities, no pilots just a living ship. It's worth looking into if you can forgive incongruities in a story timeline. (hey we all play SWG:Revenge of the Jediso timelines don't mean squat to usright?)
Maybe it's a weird supernatural christian thing that sometimes occurs, I even think Star Wars has a few of those people who will claim it is the spawn of satan because it portrays supernature.
Buffy I can somewhat understand, however it does have definite positives, for instance it is extremely funny, well seasons 1-3 are at least, and the occasional episode in the last 4 seasons. The first season does have some terrible acting, mainly from Sarah Michelle-Gellar, and David Boreanaz. It is a much better series than people seem to think.
Angel was a much better series than Buffy was, it had a much darker hero, plots were darker, more complicated, and unlike Buffy story arcs didn't just last a season or more, instead events from season 1 drastically effect season 4, something most companies overlook for "instanced" episodes. An important part of the episodes was how Angel, and some of his followers were able to so easily slip to an attitude in which they didn't care about the victims rather they just wanted to kill the "monster".
In any case I did base Taerl on Mal, though now it seems everyone else is so I need to find another
EDIT: Just remembered Whedon also made some really good films, including Toy Story and X-Men. He's directing X-Men 3. Hopefully he'll be better than Brian "I'm-too-good-for-mutants-instead-I-want-to-do-a-film-about-an-immortal-alien" Singer.

OMG what a turd that was! And all that crap "better than the matrix" on the sleeve made me want to go all gun-fu on whoever promoted that trash.Firefly does sound awesome though. Time for a trip to blockbuster!
So I'm not the only other human being who didn't much like Equalibrium? Man, everyone told me it was just the bee's knees, and I rented it, and found myself watching the worst 1984-goes-to-the-matrix story I could imagine. Right about the time the plot points revolves around our hero's inability to execute a puppy, I thought maybe my friend's were talking about another movie...
On the other hand, maybe it'd have been better if my friends has said "Its not that well acted or anything, and the story is silly at points, but it has a couple of great moments, and the gun-fu is really fun." instead of "Its the greatest movie ever and a hundred times more awesome than the matrix.".
So, now that we've gone and told you Firefly is the greatest thing to come along since free spirited concensual human reproduction, it might behoove us to back down and go "Its quite good, you should enjoy it".

Going on from our comments in the Smuggler Theme Song thread, I think now's a good time to recognize Joss Whedon's Firefly as the definitive model of everything we have ever wanted SWG's smuggler class to be.

Firefly was my favorite scifi TV show ever. I really hope the show gets uncancelated if the movie does well. Maybe scifi channel will buy the rights since they will be showing the old episodes over the summer.
They already own the rights to the show according to this. As posted Above

Firefly was optioned for a 3-picture deal. So if the first one does well, it may expand into a trilogy. No word on another show, though.

Maybe if the show gets good ratings they will produce more episodes. So everyone encourage your friends, family, and complete strangers to watch the run on SciFi.
