If you spent any time here in theseforums, you would ave known that the devs admitted that it was totally random.

These are the same Devs that promised us a smuggler revamp last year, right? You're a gullible dumbass to take anything they say on faith. By the way, I was playing a Smuggler before you even mastered Rifleman, just because I didn't post here doesn't mean I'm unaware of the long-held conventional wisdom.

By the way, that's called "research".

Maybe you should have done some research on the terminology I used before mouthing off. Here's just one of may pages devoted to explaining it for folks like you:

http://teacher.nsrl.rochester.edu/phy_labs/AppendixE/AppendixE.html(paste it yourself).

Observation: Even Master Smugglers get crappy slices sometimes.

Hypothesis: Slicing is completely random. Tool quality and other factors are irrelevant. (Note, you may be able to prove the hypothesis, but the hypothesis itself is insufficient proof). One must be open to the possibility that the hypothesis is incorrect or they will tend to ignore data that does not support it.

Experimentation: Conduct a sufficientnumber of slices using high quality tools, then the same number using low quality tools. Perform statistical analysis of the results to determine if the hypothesis is correct.

I'll say it again: Maybe the reason the Devs hate Smugglers is because of tools like you who can't respect that someone disagrees with what they hold dear. On second thought, I apologize - a tool is an object that serves a useful purpose.

It's not at all hypocritical to scorn someone who cannot show common courtesy. I stated a reason why others (not myself) might doubt the assertion, noted that the thread that was linked did not in and of itself constitute proof because it does not contain sufficient data, and in return I get an arrogant attitude from him.

My lack of respect for him does not originate in a difference of opinions - I've noted in another thread that he is blind to the fact that we agree on the fundamental principle - no, my lack of respect for him is because of the way he treats others. And he's not alone in the Smuggler community - anyone who dares to even inquire, let alone challenge, the conventional wisdom is blasted from all sides. Whilemost Smugglers aresurely decent people, a number of them conduct themselves more like petulant, demanding crybabes. If that's the side of the community the Devs are seeing, is it any wonder they'd rather do something else?

For anyone who is following this and the other thread in which Tashunka has been ranting, he has done the following things:

-- refusesto even try to research this forum for any data one way or the other

-- calls any data given to him inconsequential or a lie by the Devs

-- suggested that Caylin has to prove himself again, that no one should trust what he says

-- has made hypocritical statements doing exactly what he accuses others of doing

-- apparently thinks that all the knowledge accruedover the last 13 months by hundreds of smugglers is totally bogus

And Tashunka: regarding my 4000+ slicing data. You are right, the numbers on those links don't say anything about tool quality... but only because I didn't put that information in the posts. As it has been shown over and over again that tool quality doesnt matter, it isnt necessary to say it in every post.

But if it makes you feel better, the first 3000 or so slices were done with mostly very poor tools. I bought the cheapest tools I could until I could make my own, then I made the crappiest tools possible (I never experimented and used crappy copper).

But thenI decided to add even more data to our fountain of knowledgeand began usinghigher quality tools for the past couple of months (over 2000 slices). I used high-quality copper, experimented, and made and used only higher-quality tools.

And guess what? THE SLICE PERCENTAGES WERE THE SAME AS BEFORE.

So you can either

(1) Admit you were wrong

(2) Call me a liar

(3) Just go away

I'm guessing it won't be #1.

Even stipulating a lack of respect, which I wouldn't, the onus on you is to not be an ass if you'd like your point well received.
There is no excuse for poor behavior. Indulge in it at will, but defend it at your peril.
When the guy that can look at the code says it's random, I'll take that over your sophistry.

You must pardon me if I choose to take anything a Developer says with a big old grain of salt. These are, after all, the same people who've been promising a revamp to this profession for a full year now. Why should I believe one promise when they've clearly reneged on another?

You are either blind, perilously stupid, or just looking for trouble. I'll say it again, as I did in other threads. Bold didn't work, highlighting in red didn't work so I'll add caps this time:

I DON'T DISPUTE THAT SLICES ARE COMPLETELY RANDOM. Please review this thread - the point in question is Imadork's post saying that the thread linked was proof. I simply pointed out that it does not qualify as proof because it does not contain the data you speak of. If Imadork intended to offer "proof" he linked the wrong thread. I'm not the one who needs to admit being wrong - what I just said is a simple fact. If someone challenges the long-standing conventional wisdom (remember again that it's not me, double-check this thread if you doubt that) and someone else intends to offer proof, maybe THEY could try and check the forum for the data. And maybe YOU could try reading the entire thread and taking things in context rather than selecting sections of my posts and framing them to suit your own purposes.

I'm hardly a hypocrite for telling you that you're being a d!ck here - anyone who reads the thread can see why. So you have the same three choices, let's see what happens next.

Were all the effectiveness sliced pieces raised to 89 or 90% base in the armor? Thats what a minimum of 30% effectiveness slice would have produced.
