I'm of two minds about the XP. I don't think anyone should have to be grinding their character, but I don't think silly XP should be given out or killing things. Grinding's not the fun part of an MMO; people (for the most part) play it for the content, the RP, the PvP and the social aspect (there're gameplay types I've left out, but they're the main ones for many in my opinion).

I've thought this for a while now and still cling to the idea that the majority of XP should be given for completing quests and missions, not inanely slaughtering random creatures/NPCs (indeed, D&DO is doing this and I think it'll work really well for them).

That way players are encouraged to actually play through the content of the game (I know most of you will say there isn't any content, but there are missions and quests out there ), rather than grinding their way up through a template and then only focusing on the high end quests, with the rest of the game's content and little missions here and there as an afterthought.

Anyway, that's my solution .

As for being polite, I expect nothing to come of it, it's merely a case that that's who I am (do unto others and all that) and what I signed on for when I took this role. I encourage it in others because I think it's right.

Anyway, it's coming up to 5am, so I'm gonna drool over my keyboard and look vacantly at my screen for a bit longer .

I like this post... whether I like the idea its heading into. mainly because Ive felt like this for a long time now. I hate grinding. I really hate it. But with the way this game is set up, being skill based and such - it makes sense that the more you do something, the better you get. To me, it wouldnt make sense to do lots of quests and be able to just magically train up into the Pistoleer Profession. It wouldnt make sense because there is no direct relativity. However, I dont think the problem is a lack of quests, I think the problem is that there is a major lack of quests with quality thought put into them. Furthermore, the game itself really doesnt lend itself out to see these quests. Not to mention, there is hardly any reward for doing them.

I walk around Mos Eisley and see various NPCs with quests for me to do. Whats sad abotu these is that they have me doing the same things I could do a dozen times over off of any Mission Terminal. Most of the quests they have been putting out lately are actually pretty great. They do a decent enough job of giving me excitement. But still, unless you hear by a word of mouth, or you read through the update notes in depth (which I promise you a lot of people dont) they really dont jump out and say "HEY! You there! I have something that needs to be done."

This problem aside, in the end, there is no incentive to do them. There are no substantial rewards. Thus leading me to my solution to the problem. I think I have thought of a solution that will resolve the whole "We shoul ddo quests that give XP." thing. People should do quests to unlock Skill Points. Thats, 250 skill points, and maybe we start out with 20 freebees.... thats 230 quests someone would have to do. Thats a lot of content, not to mention the grinding they will still have to do.

To me, this would be the start of a more satisfying game experience. Why? Because when I started this game back in Sept 03, all Ive ever really felt like Ive done is grind. Thats pretty much it. To me, thats not very heroic, and it isnt fun. Maybe people say there is no content because they dont see it. They dotn see it because they have to look too damn hard for it. Maybe instead of having to say "Hmmm, I wonder if I should do Jabba's TP...", the player recieved an anonymous Email or something that explains Jabba has invited them to meet with him... or you know something like that. Maybe out in space, someone recieves a distress call filled with static - and they decide to help or not.

Anyways... theres just all sorts of stuff to do here, but really, the main point I want to get across is that gaining XP off of quests is sort of irrelavent since you will never be able to make enough quests to allow someone to grind out a full Template. However, doing quests in order to unlock Skill Points? Thats something that could, and in my honest opinion SHOULD be done. If for no other reason that than to give the players a REASON to go and do all this content that really is there.
