Thread: TC Slicing Q&A Thread
Will SOE push it out with buggy Break percentages?
Increased diversity is good, and so is un-dumming processes. This is very exciting.

Just either post a simple QUESION or a direct ANSWER here.
I'll start by recapping a few questions I've had or seen that I want to try and find out when I can get on later. I'll also try answering the questions myself as long as TC-prime is around, but once the frog server comes its all you guys..
- What Skills / Skill Mods Changed?
Novice Smuggler:
"Slicing: Containers"
"Slicing: Armor +5"
"Slicing: Weapon +5"
Slicing I:Terminals
"Slicing: Armor +10"
"Slicing: Weapon +10"
Slicing II: Weapon Basic
"Slicing: Armor +15"
"Slicing: Weapon +15"
Slicing III: Armor
"Slicing: Armor +20"
"Slicing: Weapon +20"
Slicing IV: Weapon Advanced
"Slicing: Armor +25"
"Slicing: Weapon +25"
Master Smuggler
"Slicing: Armor +25"
"Slicing: Weapon +25"
Totals at Master smuggler of +100 to both types of slicing.
- What Schematics Changed?
Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths still have upgrade kits in their trees, but smuggler no longer has any slice tool schematics.
- Has the dialog window changed in general? ( Mini-game or dialog box?)
Dialogs are similar two before, less wordy though. Just "what do you want to change" type messages.
- Are tools still used for slicing Armor/Weapons
Nope
- If tools are used does quality seem to matter, or just skill?

How does Container Slicing work now? Did it change?
Containers still have a "slice" menu option, when choosing this option the container opened and the system message "With a click the locking mechanism releases"
- How does Terminal Slicing work now? Did it change?
Although not listed as a granted skill of "Slicing: Terminals" anywhere on my master smuggler i was able to slice a mission terminal via radial wiout any tools and got the system message "You have managed to slice into the terminal. Your next mission reward will be increased.". Refreshing or re-opening resets the mission payouts as it always has, and the same old timer between terminal slces is in effect.
- How Does Base Slicing work now? Did it change?
Like terminal slicing, base slicing is a radial option for an automatci instant slice. No dialog to work through. No reports of failurs have come in yet.
- Do ADKs prevent slice breakage?
No, ADK's do not prevent slice breakage
- Can bio-linked items be sliced - whether they are pending or already bio-linked?
- can a smuggler repair a bio-linked but broken piece of equipment?
- whats the best slice combination to increase DPS?
- Is slice XP being grated still? If so are the gains per slice the same?
More detailed questons:
- Does weapon /armor quality impact slice outcomes
No, just a simple chart of outcomes
- Do all modifiers work, are their benefits visible
- Does the rate of breakage seem to be ok? does it ever happen? does it happen too often?
At this time the breakage rate is WAY too high
- Is the slice process to easy to do in either small orders of a few suits of armor for someone, a crate of weapons, or large bulk orders?
Its not bad, on par with the old system, unless you have to manage a wide variety of slice types in your order.
Anyone else have any direct questions to ask?

Yes it does.
Read the announcement closely - you'll see that you have to take the weapon to a smuggler with a certificaiton of the same or higher slicing level.
I duno... the whole thing looks a bit sketchy. Yet another kinda good yet somehow half baked idea from SoE.
The breakage thing is my concern. I positively LOVE my pistols. The idea of potentially ruining a favored gun has got me totally turned off to this system. What should I do? Not slice it, and thereby self-nerf it? Why bother slicing a weapon when you can slice a p.o.s. one and put it on the same level as the unsliced high end one? What about some of the pistols I've been using for months on end that are unslicable (read: NERFED) under the new system: quest rewards, items made by old, retired friends, etc. I'd hate for my "Dirty Hairy" DE-10 to become nothing more than an amusing museum piece.
**I also haven't heard anything about "diminishing returns". Is it going to be one of these things where a high end loot item gets a smaller slice than a noob one in the dubious efforttowards "game balance"?

Ok... I'll explain it one more time, but that's it.
The weapon "breaking" that you are hearing about is the exact same thing as "retuning". It doesn't ruin your weapon, and as soon as it's repaired after "breaking", you can use it all over again.
On TC it's really really buggy right now, because it is ruining weapons. But that'll get fixed.
Sounds kewl. Can't wait for live. Hoping they don't push it too fast.
Although I have a good feeling about this patch, since it isn't supposed to go live for at least a week, they have time to prepare and fix bugs associated with the slicing game. Lets all cross our fingers.
