I've been a smuggler for quite a while now. My prices are 7k per item. Everytime I get the "/tell do you slice ?" My standard response <even in guild chat> "You know slicing IS illegal." I often get chuckles and "lol's", but this is to set the tone for what I do. What I do is illegal, hence my rates. I've bantered back and forth with potiential customers ... very few ever complain about my prices .. the one's who do .. well ... I tell them to go find a slice-bot somewhere and leave us real smugglers alone. I always end the transaction with:
/whisper This never happened ...
/pause 03;
/whisper You don't know me ...
<walk away>
I ALWAYS roleplay my smuggler. Broken profession or not ... Smuggler Rules !!!!
I sliced 2 sets of armor last night while in line for buffs, made some good change <150k with tip>, and got my buff .. tipped the doc 15k just out of niceness !!
You can make good decent $$ slicing <especially slicing mission terms in large solo groups in improved job market cities>, but you didn't hear that from me.
BTW ~~~ I am a Master Smuggler/Pistoleer/TKA and have a shop up and running in Kith, Naboo.

Congrats on Smuggler !! Woot !!

I make a nice bit of change slicing other people's stuff, Plus I enjoy the interraction, even the noobs and jerks give me a good laugh cause it's all for fun in my mind, just a game.
I can sit in coronet in 3hours and make 600k slicing mostlysuits of armorand the occasional weapons. Sure I can run and so missions as well but you get sick and tired of the same thing sometimes. With slicing, interacting with people is always different which i think is even more fun than just mindless missions all the time.
Besides, you can get that occasional great slice and that occasional 50k tip from a customer who really thought you did an awesome job.
Not to mention once they see you actively slice and they get no hassles they'll come back and recommend people.
Of course it's always to each his own so enjoy what you do!

I just wear the Master tag and stay searchable. Once you get a few customers you look up and find a line in front of you. I charge 4k per but thinking of jumping to 5k just because. Biggest place on my server is Coronet with Theed coming in second.

YOu smugglers on servers like intrepid are LUCKY you can charge 5-7k a slice, I have an alt on intrepid and I was amazed that the regular fare is above 5k a slice... I have to WORK to get 5k on Lowca... Most anyone pays on Lowca is 3k unless I am the only smuggler they've seen for days.
Economy on Intrepid is mucked up. People used to sell 80% heat composite armor for 1.25 million a suit.
Resource prices are more reasonable now, but in general, prices are high on Intrepid.

It isn't just Intrepid where slice prices are like that, though. Since coming back, I've charged 5K per slice on Starsider and never once had a complaint.
I don't just sit around slicing for people, nor do I ever advertise, but if someone asks while I'm in town I'll always do it, particularly if I'm waiting around for a doc buff or what have you. I make more money running missions (especially when slicing those 31K missions up to 44K), but like others have said, sometimes it's fun to goof around and help people out by fixing up their stuff.

I just recently started slicing for profit...thanks to an ill fated foray into the world of high volume swoop manufacture. But the solo groups on Dant sound intriguing. I do however have a question: can a buffed master smuggler/master artisan/marksman 3/4/3/4 take on the missions that pay out the cash? Any tips or tactics would be appreciated...hmmm...just realized that this may be an departure from the thread topic. If so I apologize in advance and will start a new thread.
Thanks

I don't do it that often. I will if it's a known custormer but I don't spam for buisness. If I have the time and I get a tell I will go through the process but mostly I only slice for long time custormers and AS or WS that inquire.

I'm a master dancer/master smuggler, so I do the old exotic dance in a cantina with my Master Smuggler tag up.
As anyone who needs a slice (i.e. those that use weapons and armour) comes through at some point, I get a lot of business. Yesterday made 300k in an hour.
I don't roleplay the job much, but think I will from now on - sounds like fun
