There are only about 4yrs between Ep 4 and Ep 6 I believe. Plus there is the development stage of craft. Now it takes near on a decade to design and then mass produce a fighter. Even speeding things up a bit it would take a good couple of years to design and build a large number of fighters. So even if B-wings just came out in numbers shortly before Ep 6 they would need to be in prototype phase now.
And that is my dorky contribution to the Bwing debate.

my wife was reading this thread over my shoulder, and when we came to the Firespray discussion, she went nuts. here's her quote, verbatim(that means as she said it)
"The firespry class was a Prototype(her capitalization) patrol craft, built to patrol the ovo 4 prison asteroid, and the surrounding area. there were only 6 ever made. Jango Fett stole one, and blew the other 5 to dust. when jango died, boba inherited it from his father."
sorry to burst the bubble, but i have to go with my wife on this one, she knows her BH lore...

As to the Firespray, this continuity has already been broken by Xwing Alliance, as Ethan (?), one of the brothers, has a Firespray.

In space, noone cares about continuity. 
I think the EU even had a 3rd Death Star. As long as I can shoot TIEs and there is something remotely resembling a storyline or content, I will be happy with it.
