Thread: Patch 11.3 New Smuggler content
Gee, I get to dock with a ship and read text saying that i'm getting a hot item for delivery, then i go fly to another waypoint, dock, and get a message saying i delivered the item. A couple random ships might attack, but they weren't usually TIEs. So much for smuggling... why not call it what it is "dock and deliver"? I could probably call the item a captured Ewok and say to people that I'm doing slave trading and have the same effect as what SOE did -- i.e. put a label on a piece of content and call it "smuggling".
no sarcasm there! nope, none at all
i think the missions would have been more fun had they done something like have a patrol of TIEs come out of nowhere and "scan" you (via the comm dialogue window text) while you were docking and then you had to cover the other ship while it got away to hyperspace... or maybe something like docking with a ship and getting a cargo of spice that you need to take to a WP where imps are waiting for you because it was a sting operation.
*sigh*

I'm more of a "The containersizeis disproportionate to the contents, wasting preciousvolume in my holds that could be put to better use on some "high-value-per-mass" cargo, so to speak..."
Or even, "The containersizeis disproportionate to the contents, thus hiding that only half my available mass is actually dedicated to the goods visible in my holds..."

umm, u go to the talus station and try to take the mission there, if u r not a Smuggler on the ground, u will not recieve the mission.
Were you going to /lastditch your target or /feigndeath if they did too much damage?
Were you going to slice your engines in mid flight?
Were you going to use your muon or pixie to increase your piloting skills?
I'm sorry, but I just don't understand what it was you were expecting.

Yeah, not that I'm a big fan of these new missions, and I do think there is room for improvement...what can you honestly expect for a patch job? A smuggler is just a glorified FedEx delivery guy. Pretty boring stuff. I can't see any decent space smuggling scenarios until capital ships are implemented.

Well, Underworld holds at least 2 possibilities, for a start:
1) Language comprehension. Not much of a use of abilities, but makinga lack of understanding language the reason others cant take the mission, or making it so you can win the mission easier if you understand, say, huttese, adds immersion and justifies the "Smuggler-only" status of the mission. We're not just delivery boys.
2) Scan evasion. If a (non-GCW) scan team scans my ride, there's a 95% chance they wont find anything. If they scan my Master Merchant alt's ride, he's pretty much screwed. Again, this ads immersion value and justifies the mission as "Smuggler-only". We are sneaky delivery boys.
As to the rest of your post, would you call Han Solo's cutting the engines and laying low in the asteroid (space slug) or clamping onto the back of a Star Destroyer and running only minimal systems "Playing dead"? Playing dead, or Feigning death... either way, iff scramble currently endswith the same result- they all act like you've dissapeared off the radar. So one smuggler trick now in the hands of privateers. And what about Han's sudden appearence at the end of Star Wars: A New Hope? Wouldnt you call that "an attack launching a series of wild shots to suprise enemies?" Go read the description of Panic Shot. Mind you, my argument here isnt that all skills should be incorporated into space, nor is it that only smugglers should have abilities work in space. I am merely pointing out that the primary inspiration for our profession did most of the feats that many of our specials are based on, in space.
I suggested either a new smuggler skill that involves a sort of crafting process, which would be "forged codes"
or being able to earn or purchase sets of codes from Jabba through story driven missions.
The single set of codes would be able to be reused, but on each use, the chance of getting caught would increase.

I'm curious as towhy you got 1 starred for this one!
I think part of the problem was that there seems to be no integration between the ground and space game for the Smuggler. I can see the logic though in not doing it - by making the Smuggler Alliance a field anyone could take you couldn't really offer any specials without giving them to the rest of the unfactioned fields. They could've made a Smugglers only pilot field - but then you'd have tons of people working on their Smuggler field - meaning tons of new Smugglers, which would mean tons of new people complaining about the profession
HA - hows that for cynical conspiracy theories!!!!!
So, I can appreciate JerethBane's comments. I also thought Kai's post afterwards was good as well, I just wish more consideration was given to the whole JTL thing <sigh>

/point up to the reply just before this one.
There's my idea for integrating the ground Smuggler with our role in space. It seems simple to me. There's no way a dev could tell me, "there's no way to implement that" because that would be a filthy lie. It could even solve the issue of, "well, we don't want to punish non-smugglers too much for carrying spices and slices" in that maybe, you could sell a code set to non-smugglers, but they would have a significantly reduced chance of it working for them right off the bat.
