Creature Handlers just got a major helping of dev love: a total revamp of the pet and training system.

This has given me a teeny-tiny ray of hope, since it seemingly came out of the blue. Well, some of it was apparently mentioned at fan fest, but still -- boom! Everything's changed, and it looks like for the better.

So please wait a bit longer, Queen N'varra Wren. =) That's my recommendation.

It would be interesting to hear how much of the "CH revamp" was done in cooperation with the CH Correspondent, addressing the profession issues and implementing player ideas. Any posts about that?

A very good question, and I am wandering through the threads regarding these changes to see what, if any, input CHs and their correspondent had on this system. I would hope they had some, but so far, it kinda looks like they did not have much input on it. Kinda like what happened with the slicing "revamp" for smugglers...

However, unlike the slicing "revamp", this one appears to be more appealing and truly useful and empowering to the CHs (not to mention that it is a huge, sweeping change -- much more comprehensive than what Smugglers have received thus far). CHs will now have total control over what it takes to tame, train and grow their pets, unlike the slicing system, where Smugglers have no control. By that, I mean thatSmugglers cannot craft the tools they need to perform ANY weapon or armor slice, and no other profession can either (i.e. Smugglers used to depend on AS and WS for AUKs and WUKs). Smugglers now rely on looted items, and anything above a simple tool kit drops from rather uber mobs.

So far, the overwhelming majority of CHs appear to be very excited about these changes; we'll see in the long run how it all shakes out. BE's seem to be concerned that their role in creating pets has been seriously diminished. I don't know enough about it all yet to know if this is truly the case.

Indeed we are excited about the changes to pet taming! When pet specials bugged out, it completely gutted our profession. But THIS... ah, the suggestion to make petabilities customizable via training has been floating around the CH Forum for a very long time. And the idea that Creature Handlers can unlock certain innate pet abilities by discovering a baby that comprehendsmysterious new abilities -- this has the entire CH community drooling and speculating endlessly. This will translate to an ENORMOUS boost in the quality of PvE gameplay for Creature Handlers. It's almost like being given an entire new subcategory of loot to hunt for!

To continue the theme of positive developments, Bounty Hunters also are getting a major dose of lovin' in the PvE game. NPC bounty mission targets will be getting a significant upgrade, with terminals now giving level-appropriate marks to the player. High-level BH's are occasionally pulling elite/boss level-82 NPCs as targets, and gleaning all sorts of interesting lewt. There's a new thread from a guy who killed one of these "boss" targets and looted a limited-use schematic for a Bounty Hunter Armor bicep, even!

Now, does that bode well for Smugglers' hopes for some dev love? (Ponders.) Impossible to see, the future is. But I'd say the devs are finally starting to show signs that they're beginning to get on a pretty nice roll. Heck, a lead dev even put a post into the CH Forum apologizing for all the angst caused by the temporary disabling of pet commands in Test Center while they were putting together the patch to add the new system! /gasp....

Oh, and let me correct one piece of misinformation: No, the Bioengineer community is NOT up in arms over the new pet-training system -- at least, not from what's floating around in the CH forum. From what I'm seeing, it's simply ONE noisy, obnoxious twittrolling our boardbecause he's afraid creature handlers might possibly pose some semblance of a remote threat to BE's monopoly on high-quality pets. He's being suitably flamed even as we speak.

Nothing positive from me about Smugglers smuggling.

Nothing positive about SOE and their abilities.

For that know me, please don't talk about this on Eclipse. Please. I am posting here to our smuggler community because our underworld has always been discreet.

Was Eclipse's Third Master Smuggler. Longest Running Master Smuggler on our server. Always dominated our spice and slice market. Always loved our RP and underworld community.

Now, Greenmarine gone, so many bugs in the slicing system, no bright outlook for our future, I am just not sure I can continue being a smuggler. Something I NEVER thought I would say.

Does ANYONE have a positive thing for me to look at? Something happy amidst so much darkness? I try to be there for our community. Now I am asking if someone can please be there for me.

Thank you.

Hi N'varra, I know exactly how you feel right now. As a fellow Eclipsian and a long timesmuggler (since beta), I feel how this is no longer what I hoped it would one day become. Right now it would almost be better if they justrenamed the profession Scoundrel and dropped the smuggling idea until later, becuase as it is right now, it just makes me cry.

Right now we have become a combat profession who improve all our skills by shooting animals and people with guns. Not exactly the future I wanted for my most dear profession. Slicing is a joke, we no longer slice, we are simply loot installers. Not very fun, is it?

So, what is positive, well... this makes for a perfect oppertunity to try out some new skills I guess. I have already started to wonder what other professions that would make me more scoundrel-ishthan the currently broken Smuggler profession. But no, I have been a smuggler since early july 2003, and master shortly after. I have stayed smuggler and I will not yield to this new failure, and neither should you. Smugglers know the risks in the business, sometimes deals go sour, somtimes you get a price on your head, sometimes you have to drop the cargo... but to give up and go legit? Never!!! N'Varra, dont change professions. Even if the revamp NEVER comes, this is what people like you and me was born to do. There is no other lifestyle that can be fullfilling for the likes of us. Perhaps it is time to keep a low profile, wait out a bad streak of luck, but never to give up or to turn our backs on the underground. This isnt about professions, skills, revamps, combat abilities or crafting, this is about character, and the quality of it. This is what we are, we cannot deny that any more than we can deny the Force.

N'varra Wren, we have only met a few times now and then (mostly through my alts) but if you leave the Eclipsian underworld, well, I will just have to hunt you down and drag you back, and if you no longer are a Smuggler, what chance would you stand against a Smuggler like me? We Smugglers are, after all, the best there is.

All right, confession time. I will NEVER give up being a smuggler. EVER.

Yes, HUGE strides are being taken in the right direction. Yes, I RP my role every moment I can. Yes, I made a fortune. Yes, I get to help people. Yes, everyday is fun.

Truth be told, I put this out there simply because everytime I come to the Smuggler Forums, I see nothing but negativity. I figured this might help people realize just how great our profession IS, and will be. We are a strong community.

Forgive the deception. It was not meant to hurt or upset. Was merely to remind us all of the valid points made. Have FUN with the game. Enjoy each other.

Wes, PM me please. There are some inside things you and I should discuss.
