Thread: Smuggler State of the Profession v1.34 4/05/04
Yes, that's a heavily discussed topic around here and something that there are a lot of posts throughout the forum discussing possible ways to do just that but I have a feeling if that is going to be addressed by the devs it'll be down the line in our full professional revamp. You said you weren't a smuggler so I won't expect you to spin though this forums history, but there is also this post discussing Smuggler changes in the In Concept forum that you might want to stop in and leave your comments.
Caylyn I do hope you applied to be our correspondant you did a great job summerizing our problems.
Just to emphasize IMP should not have an advantage over us. ( the more so I am a Rebel so it p* me off ) when it comes to the scans, give them lower %.
Spices is where I did all my money, I am concerned that with the Chef's food & Drink I won't sell much not to speak about the fact that they are now illegal. From that fact Dev should recognize that if there is a risk associated with it there should be more benifit, hence be better in some ways, best yet would be to make sure that Bufs, Food/drink & Spice should complement each other.
I had to let go of the Pistoler alltogether so I am out of the DX2, I really wish Smuglers would get a weapon of their own. ( a Pistol )
Now to add my 2 cents... In the future expansion we are talking about space, for me one thing would definitely make the effort of having spent so much time Mastering Smuggling ( not yet attained am 3-4-2-4) worthwhile :
Possession of the Millenium Falcon to the exclusive use of Master Smugglers! ( And abbility to pilot it of course)

Caylin, I was in the middle of writing something very similar to this when I looked through the forums and found your post. Good work, but I think that droid storage modules deserve a little more attention. We have yet to hear from the devs whether or not droids can hide contraband from the scans. This is MUCH worse than the Imperial issue. High-ranking, Overt Imperials are only a portion of this game. Anyone can own a MSE droid with storage capabilities. If they have the ability to beat the scans, we as smugglers have just completely lost the only smuggling we ever had. And it only took two days...
By the way, is this the part where I suggest our correspondent be Caylin?

Well, it seems to me that is just the 30% discount from being on the losing side. If your 25% functioned off that it would be even lower.
Your smuggler discount does not seem to play a part. So I think I'll keep that there.
*editting*
Seems I amsmoking something. I'm going over this again. Lol. I was basing all my math off of 45000 faction for a base instead of the higher, more natural #

I admit I dont have the exact numbers in front of me but this is what I do know. I'm a human imperial for starters....
ATST's cost about 9500 FP for me.. no smuggling skills.
At underworld I, they cost 8505 or something.
Now that I'm at master, they are just a bit over 7k.
The smuggler discount is working, because I've known I'e seen the fp deductions go in with my smuggler skills. But as I don't have the precise numbers in front of me, I can't actually tell you if the percentages are really living up to what they should be.
But as to whether or not it's working and in effect. That's a definative YES.
Is it working correctly? Probably, but I myself can't say for sure at the moment.

Unrelated note: I finished my character build last night. Today was the first "grind free" day on SWG, and I'm bored out of my mind. This is the state of the profession ... end game master smugglers are bored out of their minds because there's nothing to do, and we have no idea what we're supposed to be doing. Help us.
Join the club. that's not even a smugglers issue lol....
That issue I think has more to do with us players whodon't get they're fixes when they are doing something and no xp gain is involved... maybe not hehe.. but it kills me to be a master.... I'm fighting with myself every night at the moment since I've gained my triple master.
There's always hologrinding for ya...
I'm more of an RPer anyway. Grinding is fun and all, but I do it for a purpose. I'd rather be playing a story than advancing my toon, really. That's just me, though.

This is mostly directed to TH who is the ultimate consumer of this document, but if you want to work this into the initial document Caylin be my guest. I'd just like to place a bit of emphasis on the "usability" of the smuggler profession and highlight 2 areas that need work (and in doing so would cut back on at least 1/3 of the questions posted to this forum:
1. Fill in the slicing skill boxes, especially master. There has got to be a post a day asking about difference between slice 4 and master or what slice %ages are or something along those lines. We can point people to the FAQ all we want but with this many people asking the question regularly it screams for a simple fix that will go a long way.
2. The Molecular Clamp related menus need to be redesigned. The post or two a week to these forums asking why they used clamps but still failed shows to me that there is something in the menu design that needs work. We can tell people they need to "pay attention" or "actually read" all we want but why do we have to. This shouldn't be designed in a way that makes people feel like they're dumb for getting it wrong. Maybe some color coding (make the word "red" in the caption display red) if that's possible in the dialogs, or redo them so that the options are better tailored to the clamp/fan action (read "cut the red wire as indicated" "cut the blue wire anyway"). Also, make the 2nd wire to cut the default dialog action or again make it a lot more obvious that you still have work to do.
Both of the above are minor issues (read: not things that are broken) in the grand scheme of things. They both can be cleaned up "easily" and don't require any balance analysis or design work or anything of the like - but they'd have a very high return on the work done and would show that you're paying attention
