What about all the new guns smuggler already gets? ...so far pistoleer had not gotten one...
Well "technically" the DE-10 is a "new" gun although its been around a while. I think many Smugglers would be happy to trade the Deathhammer or Renegade for the iconic DL-44.

Just something to note that I didn't see mentioned. The DL44s (all3 models) have a new model on T5. They look much more like Han's DL44 now. They have the off-center scope and everything.

Also realize, Han Solo might have been a Smuggler, but he was certainly a pistoleer.

One might argue that Han Solo wasn't even that good of a Smuggler too... sure, Jabba said he was the best, but we all know that as soon as a Hutt opens their mouth they are lying. Let's see the list shall we?
- Han Solo's failed attempt at fast talking theOfficer on the commin the Death Star detention area..."Boring conversation anyway."
- Han Solo encountered at least three Bounty Hunters that we know offrom the movies (Greedo, one on Ord Mantel, and of course Boba Fett) after not paying Jabba back. In my opinion any good smuggler will not get a bounty on their head in the first place.
- Failing to slice into the Endor shield bunker, accidently shutting the blast doors thus making it even more difficult to get in.
There's probably more, butI'm too lazy to come up with more.Ithink we can all agree Han was a great Pistoleer though... probably the only reason he lived through those situations.
Han did something that made the other guy back down from a duel like bluffed him (fast talk) or he did some kind of dirty fighting to win. The guy came back though and Han got pwned in the rematch.
Lets try to accept this shall we... Han was no master pistoleer in most of the novels.
Courtship of Princess Leia for one novel- Han went back to his ship where he had a secret smuggling hold, storing a cache of Restricted weapons, he took several Thermal Detonators and a Heavy Rifle to go after some of the Nightsisters.
Also Running around in the Deathstar he used a rifle or carbine in several of the fights. A pistoleer in that situation in the hallway would have spammed Fan Shot not Warcry while running away.
Han was a Master Shipwright/Master Pilot and a Master Smuggler and he had some commando skills for the grenades. At the most he didn't master shipwright and took some pistoleer skills.

I think in some of the Expanded Universe Star Wars novels (Han Solo in the Corprate Sector?), Han had a escapade with a notorius Gunslinger. The roleplaying stats for this guy was way, way, way higher in pistol skills than Han was at the time. Can't for the life of me remember the Gunslingers name though.

Gallandro... or something close ...is the BH/Gunslinger you are refering to- **LIGHTNING** fast draw, Han even comments that he was scared at how fast and accuretly he drew, fired multiple times, and holstered his weapon in the blink of an eye- litterally. The method by which Han got him to back down was to trick him into touching a device that had a tazer effect, numbing both Gallandro's and Han's right arms. Han, however, was ambidexterous. His claim to fame was not lightning speed, but equal talent with his "off" hand. While Gallandro could have beaten Han easily (and in a later book does just that) with his right hand, shooting with his off hand Gallandro knew Han would win, and so backed down.
From a game mechanics pov, it should be that a BH Pistols/M Pistoleer might be faster, but Smuggler/M Pistoleer is more versitile. Well, at least in the terms of this one example. Another way to have taken this would be to show 2 specializations for pistoleers, ambidexterity vrs speed... but SWG's mechanics arent quite set up for a "feat" system then, say, the way Wizards d20 SW RPG is.
EDIT: It dawns on me that this could also be a good example to use when examining the CU vrs current live PvP system.
In the current, a lower templated character might have a stronger understanding of the usefullness of his specials than a grinder with a full template. Han, perhaps with less SP spent, has spent more time learning the ins and outs of his specials, whall Gallandro might in this example be a grinder who completed his template and knows only his "best DPS" specials.
Currently, it is possible for a player with a stronger understanding of his specials to win against a fully templated player who has far less understanding of specials that do not maximize damage.
In the CU, however, the full template will always win, as he does far mor damage and takes far less from the lower ranked player, regardless of how well that player understands their specials... ![]()

I think the weapons are reflective of the best case crafting/slicing scenario, so I don't think we'll see a lot of things that high. I can't remember where, but I recall reading the weapons were all maxed on the CU, but this didn't reflect how it will go live.
From what I remeber from using blue frogs back in JTL beta, I havent had a chance to play the CU stuff yet, the weapons were some of the best weapons I had ever seen. As a master weaponsmith it looked like they had taken the best possible crafted weapons if you had every resource capped(this was for most weapons... other weapons were sub par in comparison). This is most likely how it is on the CU test center place... some weapons will be about 10 points higher than you they would be in live and others may be better when they hit live.
