Thread: how about pick pocket.

While I can't imagine a self-respecting Smuggler would just walk past, say, an unattended Krayt Pearl or crate of spice, I also couldn't see a real Smuggler picking pockets. Maybe an extremely (EXTREMELY) down-on-their-luck Smuggler, but otherwise, that smells more like "thug" to me.

Of course, having said that, I feel I'm a thug, and I'd steal from people, except I'm a coward too, so I only steal from people I'm positive won't notice or shoot back, which usually requires making them dead first. I think that option is already covered.

this is the type of reply that helps...as apposed to

Where do we draw the line and say we're just "generic criminals" and not "Smugglers." Should i lobby for a /RobBank skill? For an /Arson skill? Maybe a /WalkOutOfResturantWithoutPaying skill?
this is stupid

you want pickpocketing huh?

Well I want a monkey and an organ as front for my spice business. *rolls eyes* No pun intended on that either you wise guys.

thanks for the help

some of my ideasare this...

vendor slicing which can be combated by being a high merchant.

pick pocket...or something like that

bank slicing for some money

punishment can be loss of imp faction...cause there the side in charge atm...also a most wanted smuggler list of thives from bazars, vendors, pickpocket, or whatever.

i mean come on...we make spice and we make wpns and armor better by slicing them. which is all fine and stuff. but nothing realy shady.

You want help? Here ya go.

What vendors are we slicing and what is the purpose? Are we slicing player vendors or bazaar vendors, or travel terminals? Since you mention "high level merchant" combatting this, I assume you mean player-vendors. Are we cutting the price from items we purchase? If so, we're stealing from other players. You might not have a problem with that, but it's technically griefing. It's the same as refusing to trade back and item after you slice it. Even if we're slicing bazaar-vendors for reduced costs, you're still taking profit out of a player's hands. Only way this is acceptable is if it's NPC only.
pick pocket...or something like that
Same as above. It's stealing from other players which qualifies as griefing
bank slicing for some money
Cuz the game economy isn't totally out of whack as it is? The devs have made it clear they're trying to develop credit-sinks, not new ways to bringing money into the economy. Additionally, this skill would eventually turn into some kind of credit-duping scheme, which in the past has been bannable.
punishment can be loss of imp faction...cause there the side in charge atm And 1/ 3- 1/2 of the Smuggler's wouldn't care because we have -5000imp faction already. And the current Imp Smugglers can easily make the faction back. This equals zero real consequences. Speaking of Imps, do Imp Colonals get a free ride on this like everything else? ...also a most wanted smuggler list of thives from bazars, vendors, pickpocket, or whatever. I like this suggestion. You'll find many, many, many Smugglers want a "most wanted" list. Especially if it were placed on the BH terminals and had rewards next to our names (provided of course we've done something risky enough to warrent it).
i mean come on...we make spice and we make wpns and armor better by slicing them. which is all fine and stuff. but nothing realy shady.
If you'd have read the rest of my post (where i explained where my previously quoted sarcastic statement) you'd see that our skills, such as they are, are a hodgepodge collection put in to makes us appear to be smugglers instead of Smugglers.

I got no problem with creating more of an underworld feel for this profession, but i want that feel directed to DO what our names implies. I want to Smuggle. I don't want the devs spending time creating /pickpocket skills before i'm able to move illicit cargo for players. Once they find a way to give me an immersive, player-to-player Smuggling role within the greater context of SWG, then they can feel free to add additional "criminal" skills like pick pocketing or whatever. I'm afraid if we let them get sidetracked by implimenting "thief" or "thug" or "Criminal" skills before "Smuggling" skills, well then we're never going to be actual Smugglers.

"How about Pick Pocketing?"

No. Two reasons...

1) pick pocketing players will never never never never never never never never happen. The devs have deemed ALL forms of stealing from other players as verboten and will NEVER be encouraged by a mechanic.

2) pick pocketing from NPCs...we have that...it's called Looting.

How about "something really shady" like SMUGGLING. *gasp*

I don't want to manufacture drugs.

I don't want to re-engineer weapons and armor...especially not as a post-prodution mass-process.

I don't want to buy and sell influence (fp trading).

I don't want to craft frog bowls and non-functional gaming tables, whittle naked ladies out of bantha bone nor build casinos or run brothels.

I don't want to pick pockets, rob banks, burglerize vendors, steal cars or any of the other NON SMUGGLING criminal activities we've heard suggested here.

I WANT TO SMUGGLE...that's why I'm a Smuggler!

See the relationship? Smuggler<------>smuggling?
