Thread: Laser knives and Clamps?
Me and my guild came back to SWG (after playing3 other MMO's) because we liked the crafting aspect of the game...if they keep going the way they are...I think they are gonna lose even more customers.
Haven't they noticed the sparce population on some of these galaxies (servers)?

The servers are more populated now then they have been in the past year.

Exactly! Shouldn't their evil totalitarian overlords be oppressing them too much for them to play computer games??

I think the main problem is that they are moving more and more towards anon-crafted item driven game. The items from Kashyyyk quests being a primary example - the Actis fighter is an awesome piece of kit that easily beats the player made dog-fightersat tier IV.
Its almost as if people who just don't get the whole idea behind a player driven economy are now calling the shots and the decline in number of crafters selling decent gear since the CU on the 3 galaxies I am on tends to support this view. Most MMPOGs are loot driven, sadly seems to be a trend infecting SWG nowadays. Overall I am now won over by the CU but this is one element I am not struck on - and I prefer playing combat types that do well from a loot/quest system so it isn't because I am a crafter.
Well on the matter of crafting decent gear. It honestly takes no effort now either. Used to be an AS or WS -had- to be a 12 pointer and have the very best resources to make -the- top of the line armor.
Now WS remains a little complex. Vastly so in comparison to armorsmith anyway. But it's still stupifingly simple to make a 'decent' weapon. Even as a 10 point. And AS? Hell being a 12pt doesnt really mean squat. It just means you get on average 3 instead of 2 points left over to dump into rasing the starting condition of armor. And we've gone from multiple lines to 2 for most parts and just one line in the final assembly of armor.
Frankly i was rather supprised they went with an all looted component system for smugglers. I think this sort of thing clearly shows that the rumors of the dev teams making the changes to SWG really are from EQ/EQ2. Personally I'd much prefer crafted smuggler tools. And ther'es a very easy way to keep the high end tools for high end slices rare and/or expensive. Make them require space resources.
Not alot of people space mine. Though the numbers are slowly picking up. But you still dont see a massive abundance of things that require space resoruces to craft. And any such items are inheriently limited due to the fact that you cant just drop down an automated extractor. But you need to actually be up in space yourself mining the astroids. And that takes time. Wouldnt supprise me one bit if in a few years SWG has no more PC crafting system the way their going. And such a move would wind up costing them quite abit. I'd have to say probably at least half the crafters out there have multiple accounts. In many cases it's the crafting system keeping the crafters there. When the CU hit alot of multiple accounts got canceled. I know at least among the AS communitya lot of old time smiths who had 2-3 accounts quit and cannceled ALL their accounts. And have never come back.
And frankly I also agree that all the smuggler tools should have converted into -something-. And god it's annoying the damn things dont stack either >.<

Do you even play this game??? No one has needed "slicing experience" since the CU went live 1.5 months ago. Tiggs even stated that it was being removed from the game entirely.
If you're going to b!tch about something, next time make sure it is something actually in the game.
twit.
If you are going to belittle someone, next time make sure it is for something actually in their post (sorry, couldn't help the sarcasm - attempts to be a smart-a**/*** for no good reason irritate me) I think you missed the point entirely.
The post by KainMalice does not reference to how the skills are acquired or slicing vs pistol experience requirements, the post refers to the skills. When using those slicing skills to best effect you need to have loot, so the statement that a skill line is almost entirely dependent on loot (the combat skills and low level slices are not, but the big slices are) is a good point to be mentioned. I personally do have a problem with things not being converted. Having something in effect taken away from you is never nice irrespective of its value and more and more the game is punishing those who have invested time in carefully managing their resources.
The level of preparation & organisation required to be a successful crafter in many disciplines is not for everyone, but for those it suits the provision should be made. For example, PvP is not to everyone's tastes, it does not mean that it should be dampened or removed.
I think the prediction made that eventually crafting, in any detailed fashion at least, will eventually go is a depressing one that I do worry may happen. I can foresee crafting to not requiring skill points, an add-on to a character like in EQ2, etc. I seriously hope not - much of the immersion in SWG is the fact that not everyone you meet is a traditional 'adventurer'. Once everyone is a deadly fighter then it becomes meaningless to be one if roleplay is of any interest to you.
