Neutrals get a penalty when selling faction.

I just think it would be better if there were 3 real choices outside of roleplay. Imperial has a reason. Neutral and Rebel do not. Like I suggested...let Neutrals sell faction points without the conversion penalty. Neutrals miss out on an entire line of smuggler because it's based ON faction. They also miss out because they don't PvP. They could at least get SOMETHING in return....like I said....money...with the faction selling conversaion penalty reduction.

Why is everyone so against adding something? It's not taking anything away. Imperials has a reason to join. Neutral and Rebel is strictly "roleplay".

At this moment...Neutrals receive no bonuses in a line because they are factionless (ie, the half faction penalty on death is useless...you don't pvp). They are also limited on the max faction they can earn....and they are penalized for selling faction (the conversion ratio is awful).

Rebels are just plain killed on sight if caught.

I'm just saying, a REASON to join each faction should be put in, not just for one faction. Sure...Imperials need more....so the reason can be bigger.... but I'm saying there should at least be SOME physical reason to be in other factions.

Again, my suggestion

Imperial
Fined if caught. | ATST pets

Neutral
Raise the faction cap. | Reduced conversion ratio penalty for selling faction to others.

Rebel
15% bonus of faction points when killing Imperials? Or perhaps 10% bonus insuccessful missions (like they were paying Han Solo) (Hard to say for Rebels) Killed on sight if caught.

How is that a bad thing, to give a reason to join each faction. It makes the game more "starwarsy". If smugglers are money-grabbers, like they were in the movies, they can go neutral, like most in the movies. If they feel compelled to join the Rebellion, their services are rewarded by the Rebellion...just like they rewarded Han Solo (If money is all that you care about, then money is all you'll receive). If they want to go Imperial...well, I'm sure there would be Imperial smugglers, so go right on ahead. If you're caught, you're only fined, not killed. Plus you get an ATST pet.

Nuetrals don't get a penalty. Higher ranking officers on both sides get bonuses to selling FP. So stop acting like all nuetral smugglers get a built in penalty. Technically,t here's no such thing as Nuetral FP selling, because you have to be, at least temporarily a member of a faction.

I can get that you're new, but the Dev's had stated that they need to get more Imperial players. Rebels outnumber Imps. Contextually this makes no sense. For every reason, in Star Wars Imperials should have more advantages than rebels. (And please tell me you don't need that explained to you) As far as smugglers are concerned, the rules of persuasion are currently no different for them, due to the lack of actual smuggling in the game. So, we are just as influenced as anyone else, aside from the fact that it is more advantagous to join a faction as opposed to none.

Nuetrals are at a disadvantage do to the wasted Skill points. What are you going to do? As long as the PvP skills are there, Nuetrals will always be at a disadvantage.

FYI, rebels don't get killed on sight, as you assume. Overt rebels will be attacked by Overt Imps or NPCs. If you're stupid enough to walk around overt but not being able to survive, then you're, well, stupid.

"There's no reason to be a rebel"

Well, you're right. Imperials get all the same perks and more. Imperials control the galaxy, and people join the rebellion to free the galaxy from the Empire. That's why you join a rebellion.

And please keep in mind that there ARE more Rebels than Imperials. People want to be on the good side, and the wining side. If, despite all the reasons you keep saying you should ONLY be an Imp, people still flock to the rebels, than do they REALLY need much help?

Neutral is possible. I am in a neutral PA. It is a very smugglerish PA. Sure, I am imp. And my neighbour on my right hand is a rebel, on my other hand I have a neutral, and a stone-throw away there lives a french bounty hunter with a dog named Chocu.

It is possible tomimick neutral smuggling here very much.

Here's a thought for you: Ok lets say youre a smuggler. You choose rebel. You want to sell rebel faction points. What you do is actually help Imperials to defect or supply rebels with equipment. Thats kind of like smuggling. If you want a true neutral kind of stand - ally with an imperial smuggler. Together you will be able to let people defect to any side and get equipment easily.

Sound better now?

HAH! You make me laugh, this game baised towards imperials? You know this is based off Star Wars right? You know the movies about a young Rebel who indirectly killing the Emperor. You got faction farm oppertunity, numbers, and secret dev support (cough cough cries of aldreaan part 3). I think its pretty much even, imps getting more obvious perks while the rebs get subtle, yet no less powerful perks.

Any I think its stupid to smuggle things past your sub ordenates anyway.

RPtheHotrod...

I'm not sure why you don't get this... Maybe it's 'cause you are a new player...

Why would there be incentive for ANYONE to go neutral or rebel? Any incentive? Lets see, the rebels are trying to overthrow the government... That IS the incentive. Would anyone in their right mind join a terrorist organisation that fights against the rightful government, if they didn't really want to? As to neutral, the incentive here is that you will never, ever, have to PvP unless you want to, and agree to it (or are stupid, and get a tef from healing/trading/etc) and that you can sell to both sides.

The imperials are the ruling force in the galaxy, according to the storyline. So, anyone growing up in the galaxy has the opportunity to join the Imperial Navy, and so on. Sure, there may be corruption and such, but what better place for a smuggler to not only survive, but to flourish? So anyone(not just smugglers)who goes imperial gets access to better equimpent (In theory... in reality, ATST are a joke for anything beyond getting better missions)

Every smuggler in the game can sell faction. However, if that smuggler gets promoted to a higher rank, through a lot of work or money, I might add, they get a bonus when selling that faction, at the expense of not being able to sell to the other side.

I really don't see the problem here, other than, "I don't want to be Imperial, but I want to have something cool!"

The incentive for Rebels is to overthrow the Empire? Come on, man...you and I both know that isn't even possible in the game at the moment. What are you overthrowing? NPCs? Is that Imperial town going to be taken over and made Rebel? Of coarse not...it's designed to stay a certain way to maintain a timeline in the Star Wars universe.

Now...maybe if there was real territory control.....there would be incentive...but at the moment...there are imperial harvesters right next to rebel harvesters all the time....and imperials and rebels walking in and out of eachother's towns.

Er...let me put it this way.

Take away all the roleplay and look at how it is

3 sides

Smuggler-wise.....

Side A

fined when caught

Extra Pet

Side B
No Combat, reduced ability to sell faction

Side C

Killed when caught

that's just how it is

Just saying, shouldn't there be some type of tangible "bonus" for being in EACH faction? Sure, Imperials can have a bigger bigger bonus to make it more appealing, I have no problem with that. What I'm just kinda not happy about is that there is really no other reason to join the other factions (discluding friends...roleplay...or numbers...I mean tangible reasons).

That and the fact...and listen cause it is a FACT..that rebels outnumber imperials on almost every server...on a gond number of them the numbers are heavily in favor of the rebs....

Neutrals usually have penalties in all the MMO I've been playing.

In fact, to be more correct, choose a side give you bonus, and it should stay that way.

As for the AT-ST, it has nothing to do with smuggler, it's not related at all.
Imperial have AT-ST because they're imperial.

For rebel bonus, dunno, I'm an Imp, but I don't see why they should have a bonus, they're not organized, they're not the leading force, they're not the empire.

For the scanning issue, even before I was a smuggler, I've been scanned several times, never paid a fine. Guess why? because I'm an high rank imperial officer, and that just make sence.

People join the rebels because they want to.

I didn't joined the empire to have nice toys and avoid fines, I joined the empire to serve the emperor.

For the imperial/rebel ratio, imperial are outnumbered on every server except the 3 european servers (one behing 50/50 I think).

Maybe you should try other planets, all the planet are not crowded with imperial, some are even crowded with rebels

*shrug*

I chose Imperial because in Beta I had thought everyone and there brother was going to be a Rebel. Two consecutive Astromech statistic posts later, and I was right. Rebels outnumber Imperials on every server. Some by margins upwards of 2 to 1. I wanted a challange to always be hunted, outnumbered, and outgunned.

From an RP standpoint, I am not really a smuggler, I am more of an operative. Spies learn the "tools of the trade" just as much as smugglers do. Thief, Scout, Smuggler, Spy, whatever. I use my connections in the underworld to help out my fellow imperial (buy faction points), I use my abilities to manufacture "enhancement drugs" to make the soliders of the empire better/faster/stronger (spice), and when the going gets tough, I get the heck out of dodge fast and let the other professions take the heat (dirty fighting).

To say we ALL have to be Han Solo is short sighted. To say we ALL have to conform to one or anothers vision of what a smuggler is or is not is again dangerously short sighted. Our toons are who we make them out to be. There are smugglers here (like myself) that have been a Master Smuggler from early release and will stay that way forever. There are smugglers here who are just dabblers to get slicing terminals for better payouts, or dirty fighting to become better pistol users, etc. There are Fanbois, there are visionaries, and there are han-solo wannabes. But who am I, or anyone, to say someone else is not playing it "right".

To answer the original posters question, there are many valid reasons for being an Imperial Smuggler, but I'll leave it up to you to figure out your own path.

I don't think people normally evaluate "hey what cool stuff do I get if I join this faction". Its more akin to choosing a political party. You don't (or shouldn't) pick a party that's just going to give you stuff (we'd all be democrats if that were the case....). You choose your side based on your philosophical viewpoints, things that cannot be touched or bought. Some smugglers work for the rebellion because the empire is 'the man' and as such is inherrantly bad. Thats actually the same reason I work for the empire... 'The Man' keeps order and laws. Without laws, there's no illegal items and nothing to smuggle
