Thread: I dont get this. Why can smugglers go imperial without penalty? THere's no reason to be a rebel smug
Since you obviously are very sensitive, Mr. Hotrod, I will have to be very careful and delicate in telling you this.
What you say is so very, verydumb.
I am a smuggler, and I am also an Imperial. This fits my character excellent! This is EXACTLY what I want for my character, who is somewhat of an outcast, disillusioned officer in the Empire turned smuggler for the heck and profit of it.
Mr. Hotrod, please do remember that this is a CIVIL WAR. Do you know what that means? Brother fights brother! An Imperial will have a Rebel brother! That makes very difficult conditions at home, I can assure you. Splits families as well - OR it may just make them stronger, or even more open-minded.
In Civil Wars, there is no "right" side!
In Civil Wars, people fromboth sides regularlymeet and often havedinners together.
In Civil Wars, people don't necessarily hate eachother intensely, even though this may also actually be the case for some.
Oh and have you heard the old saying that there are no rules when it comes to war and love?
If you don't have the fantasy to see why it could be interesting to play a smuggler who is in the Empire, then there must be something seriously wrong with you. Just think of Han Solo's background story! Yes, he was an Imperial!
Or what about other big people, like General Crix Madine? Remember he defected to the rebellion? Or what about Baron Fel's background? Please - do me a favor and just think rationally before you open your mouth. That's an old saying too!
Just to throw out some info... i'm an imp and at high rank, and master smugglar, and i still get scanned. Just recently i was scanned and fined. So it can happen to anyone.
Next, at-sts are used for 2 reasons. As a last resort in pvp, and so we (imps) can get higher paying missions. As i don't pvp, that leads me to use the atst for missions only. The item is a novelty at best, and nothing special for it's high cost.
Finally, i don't see this game being better off for imps rather than rebels. I've been an imp, converted torebel, then imp then neutral, and now going back to imp (for the reason mentioned ubove). I see no benefits either way. It sounds more like you are suffering from "the grass is greener on the other side" ideals. Although i do agree, neutrals should be what smugglar go for, much like BHs should be. But who knows what will happen in future updates. You don't have to take my word for it, but i've been playing since the games release. I would like to think those months count for something.
"To answer your question because Soe has stated several times they want Swg to be for both the casual gamer and the hardcore. To do this they limit the amount of continuity in the game."
umm, keitaro are you on crack? when has soe ever stated they limit star wars continuity in the game to appease casual players?...if they have, point me to the quote and i'll stand corrected, but if its as i suspect, and you made that up, it'd be better to preface it by saying its your opinion rather than stating it in a forceful (and rude) manner...
Hotrod,
you already made up your mind to go rebel a long time ago.
Go rebel!

You said it yourself. If you're an imperial, you don't have to worry about being scanned....so what reason is there to not go imperial? It just doesn't make sense.
Not to mention, all I ever see are imperials everywhere and rarely rebels.
A reason to go imperial? ATST + risk-free smuggling
I dont really understand why anyone is a rebel outside of roleplaying.

Only fined + ATST pets
Can sell faction points to both factions without penalty
REBEL
I dunno....20% more faction points for killing imperials (smuggler gone good deserves a reward)
I am neutral, why? Two reasons, 1) is makes sense selling to both sides, whatever gun one side gets, the other side misses, doubles your profit. And 2) it fits the way I play my character. Now to all three:
neutral smuggler: this guy is out for profit
rebel smuggler: seems like someone who lives by the rule "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"
imperial smuggler: someone who lives for the danger, or at least should. A soldier selling drugs in a war does get a penalty, a high one! no matter how many men the need in the field.
The only thing strange in my eyes is an imperial smuggler in an imperial guild. An imperial smuggler is like a cop selling drugs. Is that possible? Sure. Does his entire department know of it? Usually not. Does your guild know of your smuggler activities? Usually yes. Now if they don't arrest you, they make themselves criminals too. What's the point of an entire guild fighting for the imperial law when they don't care about the law?
