Thread: Salient Detail Focus Thread: Bounty Hunter Visibility for Smugglers
sooo.... couple questions on this. sorry if i missed it in previous post comments. this reward for infamy? how high is the proposed slice percentage? i mean would the developers really want us slicing upwards and close to 75 percent? and if we do get a higher slice percent from it we had better have no way possible to hand over a 11 percent slice in the process.
what kind of warning system would there be.. it would be a real cheap tactic if a newly power leveled bh gets mad from losing to the jedi (which is gonna happen), messages a smuggler for a slice gets the gun sliced and kills the smuggler (shoot imperial guild bh are already killing imperial guild jedi who are still blue dot, whats to stop them from pulling this tactic). yay bh gets a high sliced gun and a death to a smuggler with infamy in the process.. also another question. and yeah i have mentioned it in other threads sorry for the mention again. what are the developers gonna give the smuggler to counter a bh's nice speed and attack mods, and torso shot and eye shot and carbine kd and llc box 4 moves and scatter guns and on and on and on. oh yeah i can elect to go pistoleer (which seams pointless) also to try and counter this but i dont get to mess up a bh in the process of getting hunted with master pistoleer. i dont think it would even help as a commando (master commando master smuggler prior to my current template) as the lp would still miss a whole bunch and shoot real slow while that bh would just torso and eye spam me from 21 meters just out of flamer range. how about putting anyone who uses stuff from a "famous smuggler" on the terms also. that means a bh who uses my super stuff will then be hunted also (or would this really strain the server) this would make it a risk for anyone who wants that "uber slice" from the infamous smuggler. the smuggler should not be the only one who is at risk (in real world cops go for both the drug pusher and drug user; pimp, prostitute and customer; illegal gun dealer and purchaser etc etc.)
i could see people paying maga money if they could get a guarenteed slice that is not gonna suck ala 11 percent. if there is still a possibility of a crappy slice people wont up the cash.
i have one other concern, what safety net is gonna be implemented so that power pvp'rs dont find a back door into this. i mean really we have been in the world of jedi on roof tops and double slices and every thing else. im not pointing my finger at me, nor you, nor him, nor her or the third person to your left. with this system all i have to do is start an alt make that my main and my master smuggler slices crates and crates and crates of junk inside a locked house which i will then sell on the market for a credit each. run out do a mission with guild body guards and run back and lock my self in the house, there you go the most famous smuggler on the server with uber slices locked in a house that no bh can get to. and my new main will have the uber guns to pvp with.

It's page two it happens...
"this reward for infamy? how high is the proposed slice percentage? i mean would the developers really want us slicing upwards and close to 75 percent?"
The amount thrown was 5% (meaning the cap would be 50% at master right?) but we aren't tied to the number- we are more interested in having an incentive not to stand there and get shot a BH buddy so he can get the cash.
"and if we do get a higher slice percent from it we had better have no way possible to hand over a 11 percent slice in the process."
Well, if you originally would have gotten a 6%, 11% would still be better, no?"what kind of warning system would there be.. it would be a real cheap tactic if a newly power leveled bh gets mad from losing to the jedi (which is gonna happen), messages a smuggler for a slice gets the gun sliced and kills the smuggler (shoot imperial guild bh are already killing imperial guild jedi who are still blue dot, whats to stop them from pulling this tactic)."
Well, with what we are talking about-
You only earn Infamy when you CHOOSE to add the 5% bonus to your slices (an offer that you would get if you didn't slice with an advanced precision knife which would give you the 5% bonus WITHOUT the Infamy).
You would have to do this SEVERAL times (in a short amount of time) in order to gain enough
Infamy to wind up on the boards.
When you are on the terminal you would be notified that there is a bounty on your head (not mentioned in this thread but in others).
Also mentioned in other threads:
Having the ability to use UNDERWORLD connections to give you info about the BHs Hunting you.
Being able to slice your name off the terminals.
Having the ability to throw off the BH with a false slicer trail.
Being able to use a disguise Buff with the aid of an Image Designer- That would hide you for a couple of hours.
Using droids that explode and cause CRAZY damage to any enemy in a given area- (waitaminute that one exists!)
SOOOOO- to answer your question. YES. a BH could ask a prospective target for a slice and then kill her while she was slicing the weapon BUT she would know FULL well that she was being hunted and most likely she would know who was hunting her.
This would NOT happen if the smuggler made "BH Terminal" style Infamy with THAT slice- as the BH would have to go to a terminal to accept the mission to kill the smuggler.
"...also another question. and yeah i have mentioned it in other threads sorry for the mention again. what are the developers gonna give the smuggler to counter a bh's nice speed and attack mods, and torso shot and eye shot and carbine kd and llc box 4 moves and scatter guns and on and on and on."
See the above. Plus a plethora of ideas have been thrown as far as giving smuggler better mods for evasion- Our focus here is to make a path for smuggler bounties to be fair, non-exploitable and positively consentual.
" the smuggler should not be the only one who is at risk (in real world cops go for both the drug pusher and drug user; pimp, prostitute and customer; illegal gun dealer and purchaser etc etc."
Cool idea- but we are having a hard enough time convincing others that WE should be on the boards. Caylin says the Devs won't go for it because PvP is GCW- and GCW is PvP so in order to PvP you need to be a part of a faction- Which is why Jedi were tagged rebels when they first unlocked.
My questions to that are:
"What if you only gained Infamy for slicing for Overt/factional customers?"
and...
"What if you only got the Infamy bonus for slicing while part of a faction yourself (overtly/covertly)?
"i have one other concern, what safety net is gonna be implemented so that power pvp'rs dont find a back door into this. i mean really we have been in the world of jedi on roof tops and double slices and every thing else. "
We all know there IS no locking the backdoor on this until AFTER hardcore exploiters have already kicked it in. Will this be any different? NO. But we can come up with a system that is fair and punish those who go around it.
"with this system all i have to do is start an alt make that my main and my master smuggler slices crates and crates and crates of junk inside a locked house which i will then sell on the market for a credit each. run out do a mission with guild body guards and run back and lock my self in the house, there you go the most famous smuggler on the server with uber slices locked in a house that no bh can get to. and my new main will have the uber guns to pvp with.
"
1) I would suggest that slicing in a private place would not allow you to have the bonus and therefore no infamy is gained (who gets famous for doing illegal acts from the safety of their home?)
2) Infamy is always FALLING- you would not be the most infamous smuggler while hiding in your house for very long.
3) After learning that BHs have the problem of Jedi hiding in houses I had suggested that the infamy "clock" would stop when you were in a private place or logged off. SO whenever you decided to join the rest of the galaxy you would be right where you left off.
Sound good?

Whennovices get ganked from slicing containers or otherwise working on their skills, they should not be placed on a BH terminal.
This is the reason I was suggesting having infamy go up and then the player would actually CHOOSE to do a mission that would result in risking PvP. This way you are giving consent and confirming that by choosing ACCEPT when you take the mission.
There would be a PvE equivilant mission you could take with the same rewards but without the danger of ending up on the BH terminal.
This of course brings up the argument of-
"Shouldn't I get bigger rewards if I am willing to take bigger risks, like being hunted?"
I say- YES. but I am willing to give that up to keep the non-wanting-to-risk-PvP players quiet and gain the content bonus that bounty hunts would bring to the game.
That aside-
The smuggler who only wants to PvE DOES have the option NOT to use the bonus AND they have the option to run missions to get a tool EQUAL to the bonus W/OUT the risk of PvP. Isn't that enough?
Right, I think a simple "Using this ability without an Advanced Precision Laser Knife (or whatever) could result in a Player Bounty Hunter coming after you. Continue?"message before using a bonus would be a sufficient warning.
Think of it this way: We want Smuggler Missions as part of our revamp, that grant us some bonus abilties. But let us also be able to get those bonuses without running the missions, in exchange for risk of PvP.
hot dog, if all of this were to be put in the game, sheesh it would be one intense, awesome and nerve wracking game.. sounds like it would be fun and quite differant.
maybe if a smuggler was to be up on the boards, some type of system would kick in that would give the smuggler +25 percent to all current combat skills and then they would leave as the smuggler goes off the terms. a type of "awareness perk" for being high profiled. i still am not sure of what the developers have planned for the smuggler. (is it really a combat class or is it a craft class) and have no clue as to what they are gonna give to the smugglers for one combat line in the skill tree. what ever happens, i hope the smuggler is more able to hold their own if they show up on the terms. yes we have "evasions moves" but in a sense they only work if they can hit. (i have become the turret controller atleast with that i have a fair chance at hitting something) well i guess i will have to wait and see what the developers announce.

As for the BH asking you to slice and then blowing you away, the BH would have to already have a Bounty Mission for you. Even if the slice he asked you to do put you over the top in terms of Infamy, they'd still have to go back to the terminals and take a mission with your name.
That's exactly what I was thinking. That the Underworld line would be for Smuggler Missions and Counter-Bounty Hunter abilities.
I think it would be exciting if you were told when someone accepted a Bounty on you (assuming you have the right Underworld skill). Master Smugglers might even know which Bounty Hunter is coming after them.
Plus we could get some "throw them off the scent" abilities like slicing travel terminals to give a false read on tracking droids, a natural ability that slows tracking speeds, etc.
and the sneak attaks! DAAAAAAAAMMMMMMNN!
