I sometimes think that people come about this pricing thing the wrong way.
Why should I have to justify my price?
Poeple come to me for my service, just like people go to a shop to buy something.
Things have a price. You pay it if you want. It's up to the customer to decide if they want to buy something at that price, not the vendor to sit there and justify why something costs what it does.
If you think it's too expensive, don't buy it. No one will be insulted or hurt if you say, "Sorry mate, too much, I'll shop around."
Good Luck to you. If noone comes to you for business any more, regardless of whether you're a smuggler, doctor or whatever, then maybe that means your price is too high. So you lower it if you want to continue doing business.
No one forces anyone to buy any of the things the prices of which people seem to complain about the most.
Think about what is actually an essential to playing the game and progressing your character. Is it a buff, or a slice, or a crate of brandy, or an AV21? No, these are all luxuries.
You can get a good heal in a cantina or a med center for the price of a tip, and a good blaster shouldn't cost the galaxy. Sure it might take you a little longer to get the xp you need (boy do I remember the unarmed slog...) but I got there, I interacted with other players and I enjoyed myself.
I'm so tired of justifying myself and my slicing prices, that I just don't any more. I have a little bit in my bio about slicing and my prices, but at the end of the day, if they don't like the price, they don't have to pay it.
I don't need the money and I certainly don't need the hassle. I want to enjoy my gaming time, and I'm sorry, but spending all night in debate about my prices (5k flat btw, but I do make discounts for large - and I mean LARGE - orders, plus guild and friends) is not my idea of fun, especially when in the framework of the economy on my server 5k is stuff all to the players that are at the stage of looking for slicing in the first place.
I wanna sit in a shady cantina slicing occassionally, roleplaying continually and BEING a smuggler.

I have only recently becomea smuggler and I too set my price for slicing at 5k to the general public. Why ? My reasons are:
a: I don't want to waste 80% ofmy time spamming for trade and 20% actually doing trade (if that), and then when you get to slice something player xxx 50% of the time isn't happy because he didn't want a speed slice. Besides I'm a smuggler, should I realy be advertising to the general public if I'm a shady criminal type ?
b: I got to know a weapon/armor smith, I worked out through grinding slicing that I can do approx 100 slices per hour, I can earn approx 300k an hour doing missions, so we agreed on a 3k per slice fee.
Yes I charge 3k for doing 100+ bulk slices, but thats solid work and there is no "dead" time. Plus he only wants a certain percentage and requests I destroy or pick out the best of the rest for myself to do with as I want.
Lets face it, 5k is cheap !! A weapon smith will sell a standard weapon for e.g 10k, with a 30% damage slice he/she will sell it easy for 40 -50k, and people don't complain. Most of the genaeral public that ask for slices are those that want to get a nice weapon on the cheap, they buy a 10k standard weapon then seek us out and cross thier fingers for a nice 30%+ damage slice for the minimum amount of credits(been there, done that, got the T-shirt).I don't want to charge 30k for a 30% slice and I don't want to charge 2k for a 20% below slice. I want to charge for my time invested in the skills I have, the time I take to make the tools I use and the money I could be making by doing a mission instead of doing a service to Joe public.

The way I see it, one money mission from Dantoonie in a solo group (which is how almost everyone makes there credits) pays out 30k. Enough to buy 6 slices from me (I charge 5k). So a customer only needs to perform 2 money missions to slice a full suit of comp armor and 3 weapons, which just happens to be my average sale. So as for my price, I don't sympithize for them, they can afford a 5k slice 1000 times over. How can I justify a 11% slice? Easy, it's bad luck, nothing anyone can do about it. But it does surprize me that many of my brothers here have so much trouble with costomers. The only trouble I get, atleast on the Intrepid server, is bad customers but other smugglers directly undercutting me. Example: I head to the starport to make some cash, I get there and there is a Smuggler there slicing already. Barking her ad for 5k a slice. I pop up my Master tag and bark my 5k a slice ad. She lowers her price to 4k, or lower. That is my problem, you don't see many doc's doing that. They charge 15k almost all the time. Unless ofcourse their stats are too low.
But really, whoever thinks 5k is too high for a (once again) PERMANENT UPGRADE to equipment is outta there mind. To compare my prices: Ticket to Endor 4k+, Buffs for 3.5 hours 15k, Nice suit of comp armor that might last a vette mission 500k, Latest Painting for your house 15k, Slice to your weapon -or- armor 5k.
Really its not that high. Just wait till we get put on terms for this stuff. Its gonna be 30k a slice. Don't like it, well I don't like getting hunted down like a dog doing it for you, so tuff. Point is, I don't NEED to slice to make a living, I can do solo missions just like them and make a load more money since I can slice the terms. My average solo mission pays 44k-46k depending on location and group. So why do I dedicate my backpack to slicing goods? Cuase Im hoping to snag a faction sale. Easiest Million I ever made. Slicing is boring and now time consuming. They need me, I dont need them.

I refuse to charge less than 5k per slice unless it's a bulk order that's still netting me a couple hundred thousand. Why? Simple, with nine million credits in the bank, why am I gonna waste my time for anything less than that? Especially when there are three weaponsmiths who regularly use me because they consider me to be "the best."?

I charge 10k per item period. When someone trys to get me to lower it by offering to pay lets say 5k (it dosent really matter how much he offered) I say"OK you talked me into changing my price, how does 20k grab you?"Dont get much business that way but it is sure fun.
I like it!

I laugh at those the do per percentage charge slices
And even louder at those who are 5k+ per slice....
How greedy are some of you?
How does a person who slices for 5k per slice ever justify a 11% slice?
my contribution, biwat
I charge 5k a slice (1k if the slice is below 20%), 35k for armor suit.
But I'm not going to insult you because I don't understand why you charge only 3k.
To each his own, I guess.
Well put. What someone charges is there own affair.

I have a 3-tiered scale
17 or lower free
18-32 4500
33 and up 5000
I consider these prices to be extremely low, and they do seem to keep the complaint level pretty low. In general, I find there's two types of customer out there, those who grasp how much they need their slices, and those who think that they deserve everything in the game handed to them on a silver platter. The other day, I was paid 100k for 3 slices. Now that's appreciation for the smuggler.

I charge 5k per slice but my average payment is about 7 to 8k if I include tips.
Yimez, what I won't do is a tiered pricing system.
First, the % variance is due to SOE and I'm not going to complicate MY life because of their game-mechanics.
Second, I go by the KISS principle whenever possible...flat rate is simple, hence flat rate.
I don't advertise and I have found that 5k is generally the lowest price that will get me to stop what I'm doing and slice.

I no longer actively slice for the public but for the times that i do the charge is 10k. ususally people have no problem paying it, heck 9 out of 10 people tip me more.
it all breaks down to what the economy is like on your server.
