I have been rather surprised at the number of people saying "I was disappointed to and I have set a date as well". I mean no disrespect but I figured most people in that catagory were keeping quiet because of a community sensus. I really hate that so many have this plan but I must confess that it makes me crack a smile knowing that I'm in the same boat with some other people and not alone.
Thanks, Arashi and everyone else as well.
Actually, my friends have known my cutoff for awhile. The main reason I haven't voiced it here is I haven't been on the boards that much lately. That's due to quite a few reasons.
One is the CU. I just don't know what to think of it. I stopped playing MMORPGs after I quit UO, which was a couple years before I started playing SWG. The promise of a Star Wars MMORPG is what interested me as well as the uniqueness of it. I followed the pre alpha forums whenever I could, and had great hopes. Since that time though, I've seen many of the great ideas thrown by the wayside especially with recent publishes, and now with the CU the game will become completely disconnected from those days of great promise. I'm not saying I don't like it, just saying I'm hesitant to jump right in with it. It's really disconcerting to know what the original vision of the game was and to see the state that it's in now.
Another reason is the revamp. We've waited a long time for this, and even though the docs look good (not great), they're still just docs. As mentioned above, the vision (should history repeat itself) won't be the outcome. Furthermore, how much longer are we really going to have to wait. At this point we really deserve to know if they've even begun the coding for th revamp. We deserve a lot more than we've ever gotten and being #11 on the 2004 lows is great evidence of that (thanks for pointing that out by the way). Finally, the content of the revamp. I too want player Smuggling. I see great potential for the future of that and a contraband system in the design docs (once again I'm hesitant because of the reality of SWG potential and what reality becomes), but how long would we have to wait for that to come along. Another 2 years?
Finally, the conduct of SOE and LA. They opened pandora's box with the level of communication that they wanted with the development of the game. It has caused problems from time to time, but they are the ones who opened the box. The continual dismissal of actual player feedback as well as, at times, the desire to completely ignore (or maybe just be completely oblivious) to what players are saying is disturbing. When the option to be forthcoming and say something as simple as we can't change this right now but we will work on it to be the best choice time and again, and their failure to do this, it makes you really wonder who's running things. There's a lot of blame to go around with this one.
I have made a couple choices because of all this. I've set a det to cancel my subscriptions. I've resisted the urge to purchase the expansion (I will not buy ROTW until the Revamp). In the end, it will be their conduct that decides my future in the game.
"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114
