After reading a few posts about how slices are cheap I sat inthe Coronet Star Port last night for about 2 hours, had my slicer tag up for all to see.. I did 7 slices and made 175k. There were a few people that said no way .. but I still did a fair amount of business. I am not telling people to over charge here but when a doc beside me was shouting "50k gets you to the front of the line" I didn't feel too bad

I am not a Master Smuggler yet (working on slicing level 4) and have been doing slices for people and only ask them to pay what they think is fair according to the results. I still make between 3-5kper slice (average). Reading through this thread I can see that am going to have to charge more once I make Master [gets a greedy look in his eye].

Greedy?

Of course, maybe your vision of a smuggler is somewhat different than what it's supposed to be. What motivates a smuggler? Greed, adventure...we're lacking the latter so why complain about the former. What motivated Han Solo to help rescue Leia? That's right, the prospect ofgetting a fat reward. I smuggler haslittle ethics. He makes money where and how he can. If he can charge ridiculous amounts and get away with it then I'd say he's doing hisjob pretty well. There should be no standardization. It should be up to him to charge whatever he wants, be it 100cr/% or 15k, heck even 25k. It's up to thecustomer to speakup with his/her wallet. If they don'tlike the pricing, don't PAY for it. Soon enough the smuggler willtake the hint from lack of customers and lower their prices to something more reasonable.

Slicing SHOULDN'T be standard, lets get thatstraight. You speak of how newbies are told to slice their weapon and armor. They SHOULDN'T. Everyone and their mother has something or other sliced and it shouldn't be that way. The risk system is juts not there. For the slicer OR the customer. Slicing is a highly illegal proceedure, everyone should NOT be able to have something sliced. Just those willing to take the risk. But unfortunately it's not like that. So we should lower our pricing because slicing is just so standard now that we should accomodate the less fortunate? It's supposed to be something special but as it is right now it's not. Not until SOE gets off their butts and does something, which isn't coming in the near future.

As for the precentages vs cost as I said, it's a gamble. That's what slicing is right now. You roll the die when you give your weapon over to the smuggler. You take a risk, but as I said, even 19% is an improvement. So why should our prices reflect a roll of a die? If you go to a casino and play slots, does the price per play increase with the odds? No, you pay the same amount whether you lose, win $100 or win $50000.

As said before...greed is what motivates a smuggler. A lot of times they are solitary creatures that selfishly look out for themselves only. I don't know where and how all of a sudden a smuggler's role changed to reflect fairness and "community" inside the game. Here, fine, we can discuss our profession in a friendly manner. But inside the game, a smuggler isn't the nicest person you want to meet.

i liked the response kilgore, and you are right on all points, especially about the greed and selfishness smugglers should be like, what i asked was what changed to make it now matter that we get crazy moneys for slicing, not why all smugglers are greedy.

if greed was a smugglers aim from day 1 why did they/we charge 100c per % instead 1k, or 3k?i know my opinion meens little out here and in game, but untill we can garantee what our slices will be i dont think things will change when it comes to slicing rarety (sp) and because it is common why should we force to be uncommon just because it is illegal? because the crackdown doesnt seem to make a difference.

say if we where given bonuses from WUK's or AUK's towards slice % or a warning to say which part of the weapon will be getting sliced before the deed is actually done, i would consider it worth charging more for, then we as a community might see slicing as the rearety it should be.

i know not all smugglers charge high prices, maybe some see it the way i do, making cash when i cba doing missions, helping people out and actually communicating with peeps, rather than just constantly solo-grouping for ever on end untill i have enough for my krayt-random weapon.

i just know what its like having saved up for a good weapon to find the slice go haywire and it become half as usefull as a non-sliced weapon. that being one of the reasons i became one in the 1st place, so i could hack a bag of em till i got what i wanted, obviously not expensive weapons

i think i went a bit off topic tho, and if i keep going it end up as another "fix this proff now thread" i agree smugglers should be greedy but we just dont have the means to play our proffs like that...

I'll say now what i've said to all the novices I've helped along the way as reards to our profession, slicing, and pricing.

You are a smuggler. And as a smuggler, you are all about Number 1. You are not here for them, they are here for you to make money from. Slicing isnt the quickest or best way to make money, so when someone comes up to you asking for slicing, tell them that and tell them to make it worth your while, After all, you could be spending the time bashing mokk/janta lairs if you want cash. They arent paying for the skill, they are paying for your valuable time.

First of all, I agree with setting whatever price you want to for slicing. If someone doen't want to pay it fine. They'll find someone else. MOst of the time lately I have been asking people to just pay what they feel appropriate for the slice. Honestly, I usually get more money that way. Not to far back I got 20k for a slice I would have charged 4k for. Sometimes I get right at the minimum of what I charge. Just tell the poeple up front what you charge or in my case at times to look at my bio, and they'll decide if its worth it.

5k for a slice is not too low IMO.

If I charged 25K per slice I sure would be getting handed 10 weapons at a time from one customer the way I do right now.

I also wouldn't be getting the huge tips I get.

I'd MUCH rather make the same money charging little, getting huge tips and have happy repeat customers than charging 25k once in a while and having grumpy customers that always try and look for other master smugglers for their next business.

I'm happy with 5k for now thanks.

Hey it's inflation.

If Master Docs are now asking for 15k for 2200 HAMs 2.5 hours buffs, I say prices are a-risen.

I find Master Docs giving out 2.5k, 3.5 hour buffs for 8k as often as the ones charging 15k.

If I couldn't just slice my own I'd never pay a Slicer 25k for a slice when I could be patient for just a little longer and get a Master to do it for 5k.

if someone is speed capped with a weapon yes it is then a waste of a slice, the weapon hasnt improved for that customer, so it is half as useful as it could have been. if that helps explain it better...people always seem to pick out of a post egasctly what they see and never think about what they read... or am i just typing stuff wrong?

you might was to read my previous posts for egsamples, then again i wouldnt wanna tell you what to do or anything

I totally agree with roleplaying a smuggler...if we could.

I want to sneak around in dark alleys and be have to do everything in secret. I want to have people come to me for a "service"...that a friend told them about.

I want to sweat it when I see some storm troopers....hoping that they dont notice me. I want to get busted for having slicing equiptment/spice on me(not the slap on the wrist we get now..I mean really busted...like having all the illegal stuff confinscated.)

I want to have to put my house out in the middle on nowhere so the empire wont bust me.

In short I would love it if we could play smuggler like a true smuggler.

Did you see Han Solo spamming his services....no...they met in a dark place and talked about it in whispers. This would be soo cool...

And yes I am serious about confinscating....It would be a thrill being busted and having 100k of stuff taken from me by troopers. Or trying to outrun them...having them firing on me the whole time...

I am getting chills just thinking about it lol

I don't know. Maybe people are starting to figure out that it's okay to charge more for a service such as slicing. Maybe they're finding out that people are willing to PAY it. Remember, it's not everyone that's charging 10+k per slice. For the most part prices are still hanging around 3-5k.

if greed was a smugglers aim from day 1 why did they/we charge 100c per % instead 1k, or 3k? i know my opinion meens little out here and in game, but untill we can garantee what our slices will be i dont think things will change when it comes to slicing rarety (sp) and because it is common why should we force to be uncommon just because it is illegal? because the crackdown doesnt seem to make a difference.

I wasn't around since day one admittedly. Who set these prices? Was there some kind of union meeting? Why were these prices set in stone from the getgo? I'm not clear as to who or how it was set that this should be a standard that everyone should follow. As for commoness I know asking for it to be rarer, or have more dire consequences is too much to ask. But again, I'd like to believe that in principal, slicing is not something that is accesible to everyone in the galaxy. I'm not going to get into the design flaws of the slicing skill...but if charging a few extra k to make say a newer player work a bit harder and longer to get his scout blaster sliced, then maybe that's a good thing.

say if we where given bonuses from WUK's or AUK's towards slice % or a warning to say which part of the weapon will be getting sliced before the deed is actually done, i would consider it worth charging more for, then we as a community might see slicing as the rearety it should be.

I don't see this as true. If someone was guaranteed to get the slice they wanted, then they'd be MORE willing to pay the money to have the job done. That's what I believe anyway.

i know not all smugglers charge high prices, maybe some see it the way i do, making cash when i cba doing missions, helping people out and actually communicating with peeps, rather than just constantly solo-grouping for ever on end untill i have enough for my krayt-random weapon.

See, any combat profession can make money doing missions. That's personally why I didn't choose to go commando or something similar. We have to make our money by doing shady things, that means slicing and spicing. The demand for spices isn't very high, and so that leaves slicing to make our money. Slicing and making money isn't stopping me, or anyone else for that matter from helping people (which in a perfect roleplaying world a smuggler would only do for money anyway), or grouping with friends, having fun and communicating. It's just a means of making steady money. What you do with that money is up to you.
